I'm from New York City. I love reading, shopping, swimming, cooking, crafting, and I've recently taken up making balloon animals. What more can I say, I'm loads of fun (or at least I am in my mind).
How to convert a flush mount fixture to battery powered?
I live in a NYC apartment that has no overhead lighting in my living room. I am not allowed to have an electrician wire the room and I am not a huge fan of floor lamps so I m thinking that there must be a way to convert a flush mount light fixture to a battery powered one. I have converted wall sconces to plug-in in the past but am not sure how to make this new conversion. Also. if anyone knows how to make it remote controlled or add a timer, that would be fantastic. If all else fails I could always add a cord and plug it in but I d prefer a cleaner finished look. Thanks!
4 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)4 years agoIs there any way to use a 220 volt clothes dryer in an apartment with only 110 volt outlets?
I just bought a dryer from Home Depot which couldn't be delivered because my outlets are all wrong. Is there a practical way for me to still use this dryer? If not, does anyone know of a good ventless dryer that uses a 110 volt power cord?
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs7 years agoMajor family wedding drama?
My brother decided to get married to his girlfriend of several months and asked my sisters and I to be in the wedding. They made a huge fuss about us getting these awful dresses from David's Bridal, calling every day to remind me, before they were sold out. My sisters and I spent the $80 on the dresses as they had asked (tortured) us to do so that they're wedding would happen as they had planned. 4 months before the wedding was to take place, they went to Vegas and got married. I was livid and so were my sisters. We all have children and have better things to waste money on. They offered no apology or anything, they simply went on with their lives. What should we, my sisters and I, do about it.
30 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoCat sitting dilemma, what would you do?
I'll try to make this brief. My brother and his wife moved to another state and asked me to cat sit for 2 weeks until they came back to get her. 2 weeks later, my brother came back to my city to get her daughter and left but never called me. He called my mom and told her he was coming and told her that he would NOT be picking up his cat, but never called me. My family and I are supposed to be traveling at the end of the week but we can't leave the cat alone for a full week. I called my brother but didn't mention that I knew he came to the city and was surprised when he lied about it and pretended that he was never here. He wont come to get his cat in time for my trip and he expects me to pay the $50 fee to send the cat back to the shelter, what should I do. I know I'll never get my money back if I pay to send the cat back and I'm really pissed about being lied to. What would you do?

1 AnswerDiet & Fitness1 decade agoWill 2 male cats fight?
I have a beautiful orange cat that I cannot keep in my home anymore. He is about 1 1/2 years old and he is very loving and playful but a bit of a nervous wreck at times. My sister also has a male cat who is a bit older than my cat and has a similar personality. She would like to take my cat home with her but is afraid of the 2 of them fighting.
Any advice or suggestions to ease the transition for the cats? Your answers are very much appreciated.
5 AnswersCats1 decade agoDecorationg a childrens bathroom, help?
I am moving into an apartment where my son and daughter will have their own bathroom to share which will also serve as a bathroom for guests. I would like to make the bathroom cool and comfortable for both of the children but not cover it in Disney characters that will be too childish for guests. Do you have any decorating ideas or suggestions? Visuals would be nice if available.
Thanks

2 AnswersHomework Help1 decade agoWhat would be a good way to show my support and sympathy?
Over the holiday one of my co-workers lost a parent (her dad). I have not contacted her as yet because we were all on vacation and I felt that a phone call would be too impersonal (plus I didn't want to be one of the many people bombarding her with calls) but I would like to show my support and sympathy in her time of grief.
Any ideas? What was the most thoughtful thing someone has done for you during a difficult time in your life?
I have been fortunate so far (thank God) to have never lost anyone close to me and since this is such a sensitive topic I'd like some advice on how best to handle this.
4 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoWedding planning drama, please help!?!?!?
So here is the story... I am going to be the matron of honor at my bff's spring wedding next year (so excited) and I somehow got pulled into being "assistant" wedding planner ( I guess the one she hired isn't enough). The wedding will be held on a island which means that the bridal party will be wearing sandals. A few weeks ago the bridal party got together for some lunch/ planning/ shopping. While in a shoe store, the bride-to-be and I noticed that one of the bridesmaids, a college friend of ours, has some seriously hideous feet. They are horrid and there isn't a pedicure on earth that will have them sandal ready for the wedding. She even joked about how bad they were saying "I've come up with a great way to save on gas... I drive a Flintstone-mobile. Unfortunately, my feet pay the price for my thrifty ways."
Needless to say my bff was a bit bothered by this because she thinks that this will ruin pictures and whatever else a crazy bride worries about on their wedding day.
My problem is that I don't know what to do about this. She is totally not flexible on the sandals thing so having the college buddy wear closed shoes is not an option. The bride thinks that I should politely tell the friend that she can no longer be in the wedding.
What would you do? How should I mediate this?
11 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoCan I sue my hair dresser?
I went to a braiding salon to get my hair braided with extensions, the women (2) that braided my hair did it pretty tight. I asked the woman working on the front of my hair several times to not braid it so tight as I knew that it would cause hair lose. She said that it needed to be tight because my hair was short (cut in a Rihanna-ish style) but I braid hair myself and know this isn't 100% true.
Anyway, the braids where so tight that I had a hard time sleeping for a few days and just as I predicted, MY HAIR FELL OUT!!! Around the front of my hairline my hair has fallen out pretty bad and I just want to know if anyone else has had this problem and if I can sue her/them?
Thanks for your answers.
12 AnswersHair1 decade agoWhat can I legally do about this abuse?
There is a guy on my job that constantly make racist remarks such as; "The windows need to be cleaned, have Frank do it, he's black." or "Ya know, it's times like these when I wish they had never ended slavery." and other hurtful comments. There are only 2 black employees working for my company and I have complained to the boss but there was no real action taken and this behavior has continued. What if anything can be done in this situation?

I am doing a bit of research for a book report and I wanted to know if there are small towns (in the south) that still display the confederate flag. Where is the flag(s) hung? Do most of the people of your town agree with the flag being hung or is there opposition to it?
1 AnswerOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoDo you think "The Dark Knight" will surpass "Titanic" for biggest box offer movie of all time.?
"The Dark Knight" is currently at $505 million, "Titanic" made $600 million, do you think it can regain momentum and beat the record?
I'm going to go see it again today and I think everyone else should too, I think it would be cool for me and my children to remember seeing the biggest movie of all time in theaters, twice.
17 AnswersMovies1 decade agoDo you know of a good hair salon in Brooklyn, NY that specializes in African American hair?
I have a short hair style (think Melinda Williams) and I need to find a new salon. I would prefer one where the beauticians understand the science of hair care and "treat" your hair instead of just "doing" your hair. Reasonable prices wouldn't hurt either.

2 AnswersOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoWhat's your city like?
I am thinking of moving out of New York City to another large city in the country. I was thinking about moving to Oklahoma City which is hear is comparable to New York in size and in that it is a busy city as well, however, I would like to hear from locals from cities all over the country. I think you get a better idea what a place is really like to live in from the locals rather than reading reviews online.
What is the cost of living like?
How is the job market - ie what is the average salary range?
How is the night life?
Do you have good schools?
How is the art and culture scene?
Is there good and affordable child care?
Do you have a lot of crime?
What is your overall favorite thing about your city?
You don't have to answer every single question, these are just some of the things I would like to know.
3 AnswersOther - United States1 decade agoMorning sickness....HELP!!!?
Okay, so here's the deal. I am 5 weeks pregnant (my 3rd) and I have the worst case of mornign sickness to date. BTW, I hate the term morning sickness, if it only lasted for the morning that would be a blessing. Anyway, my first 2 went off without a hitch, very minimal symptoms (my husband had the worst of it) but this one is a demon pregnancy, forgive me if I name this child Dante. I am always nauseous and always hungry, not a good combo. I am too tired to get much done and the crampiness is unbarable.
Are there any other mothers who have suffered through this and survived it? All dramtics aside, do you have any suggestions to make this more livable? I know I'm in for several more weeks of this but does anyone have any advice aside from the text book "eat crackers, eat small meals, drink ginger ale" blah, blah, blah???
I'm convinced a man came up with these uneffective methods of coping.
6 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoCan I sue my dentist?
I went to my dentist for pain that I was having on the right side of my mouth, he told me I needed a root canal and that I had an infection. He gave me drugs for the infection and told me to come back in a few weeks to have the root canal done. WhenI came back in, he took a full x-ray and said I needed 4 root canals. He did the root canals and put temporary fillings in my teeth. About 2 weeks later one of them came out, he replaced it and got started on the crown for one of the teeth. The crown fell off 2 months later and then the filling came out of another tooth. One of the other teeth started to break so I can't reall chew too well on either side of my mouth. Now, I have other teeth that he didn't work on that are starting to break because there is too much pressure and strain on the other teeth. I went to a better dentist who told me I needed to have a repeat root canal on 1 of the teeth because he did a horrible job and it should have been plain to any first year dental student.
