  • How can I give children money to encourage long term savings?

I was looking at EE savings bonds, but the maturity on those seems to be 20 years and if I understand correctly if you don't keep it the full 20 years, you just get 0.06% interest, slightly better than some savings accounts but not much (especially when you consider interest rates will hopefully rise in the next 20 years).

I would like to purchase a savings bond but with a maturity date of perhaps 10-15 years. I don't see how you can do this. The child I am purchasing for is 5 years old so it would be nice for it to mature between the time she would start driving and when she graduates college.

Are there any other savings instruments that would be easily giftable and suitable to these goals? Also, the amount I would like to give is small probably about $100, but I would like to start something where I can give the about the same size gift yearly or something similar.

  • How can I find a venue for a small wedding?

  • What should we do at my small wedding?

We are probably going to have 40-50 people. I would like to have dancing, but I am not sure if there are enough people for that. Do you think that will work? If not what other activities do you think we could do? I want it to be at least somewhat formal, so no lawn games or volleyball like I seem to see suggested on other websites and in magazines.

  • How to find a gaming monitor?

I am looking to buy a monitor that has at least 100hz refresh rate (for 3d glasses). I am finding it hard to even find that stat on most monitors on the shopping websites. What is a good place to look? Do you know of any monitors that meet that requirement?

    Thank You

  • How long for a snowmobile tour?

My bf and I are going to Steamboat Springs. We have never done any winter sports and want to try snowmobiling while we are there. How long a tour should we take? Should we ride together on one snowmobile or get two so we can both drive? Also, if you know of a great tour company I'd be happy to hear about it! Thanks!

  • 1099 Income Tax Question?

My employer gave me a bonus and issued a 1099. Now I am trying to do my taxes using Turbo Tax. If I say I am an employee (and not a contractor) then I have to pay Social Security tax, medicare tax and fill out another form. I don't know what to do, since I was an employee and the rest of my wages were paid by w-2 this doesn't seem right.

  • How long will it take me to ride 75 miles?

I just started training for the MS150 bike ride. http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?px=32297...

I currenly can ride for about an hour at a time at about 10mph. I plan on training 5-6 days a week for the next month. How long will it take me to finish the 75 miles? I am not planning on racing, I want to take my time, I am just wondering what to expect.

  • What is a realistic cycling goal to set?

I am training for a road ride in exactly one month. I have not ridden a bike regularly for about 5 years (and then only for a few miles at a time). Several months ago I rode 20 miles (I am not sure how long it took me). I consider myself to be in decent shape. Today I started my training I went about 9.5 miles in just over an hour. I plan to train 1-2 hours 5-6 days a week (that seems to be the recommended amount of training).

What do you think is a realistic goal for the distance I will be able to ride?

    Here are the choices:

    A. 50 miles - Day 1

    B. 75 miles - Day 1

    C. 75 miles - Day 1

    35 miles - Day 2

    D. 75 miles - Day 1

75 miles - Day 2 (I am pretty sure this one is out)

  • Are veneers ever necessary for healthy teeth?

I thought they were mostly a cosmetic procedure. But the dentist is saying I need them because I have a cavity in a front tooth that is too large for just a filling. I don't know if I trust him.

  • What is this dental procedure called?

I was told there was some extra gum tissue that needed to be removed while I was in the dentist chair. (I was told it was possibly from having my wisdom teeth removed years ago). I said ok and it was removed. It took about 15 minutes and no scalpels were used. Then when I went to pay I was charged almost $500 for crown lenghtening. I have researched this procedure and I do not believe that is what was done. No scalpel was used, no sutures in my mouth, no prescription mouthwash or any prescriptions given. Actually the follow up care suggested was to brush it until it bleeds to make the area stronger. I did this once but the more I think about it seems like an awful idea, it would just push bacteria into the wound. Also, the healing times I have read for crown lengthening are like 3 months. I made an appointment to have the crown placed in 2 weeks.

Is this procedure some other form of crown lengthening that I can't find anything about, or some other procedure? How much should it cost

  • Why does a day laying in the sun make you tired?

It seems like even if you spend a day sleeping on the beach you leave much more tired than when you arrived at the beach. I am interested in the scientific reason for this. Websites for reference would also be appreciated!

  • Can two people with different political/religious views get along and make it work? I.e. Christian and Atheist

If say politics and religion are really the only things that a couple can't agree on should they agree to disagree and get married? Or will these underlying issues eventually keep coming up and tear the couple apart. So from a day to day perspective the relationship is fine, but every once in a while these discussions come up. Assuming that both people have strong feelings on the issues.

  • Why don't the locks on my '03 Honda Civic 4 door, work properly?

I am having trouble with the door locks, they make a grinding or squeaking noise sometimes when when I lock them.

I have also noticed then when I open the driver door and try to use the automatic unlock on the door (to unlock passenger doors) The locks unlock for a second and then lock again.

I have taken this to the dealership twice for this problem, they reset the locks or something but I am still having this problem.

Does anyone else have this problem or know how I can get the dealership to actually fix it before my warranty runs out.
