How do I block Myspace and Facebook from daughters computer?
My daughter has become obsessed with Myspace and Facebook. She has to use her computer for her homework, so taking away the computer is not an option. I will unblock myspace and facebook as soon as she can prove to me that she can keep her grades up and and use the websites. Does anyone know of a way to block these websites on her computer. She has Windows Vista. We have tried to edit the host file, but it will not let me save it after editing. I do use the parental controls provided to block the sites, however she has found a way to bypass that as well. I have also blocked the websites in her internet options. Somehow she is bypassing these. Never underestimate the will of a teenager.
9 AnswersMySpace1 decade agoJohn Deere 214 wont crank with new battery?
About a month ago my John Deere 214 riding lawnmower quit. It would not crank over and just "clicked" when the key was turned. I replaced the battery, but that didn't solve my problem. I replaced the solenoid and that seemed to fix it. However tonight while mowing it seemed to be losing power. I turned it off and when I tried to restart it it just clicks like it did before. Could it be the starter? I cant understand why replacing the solenoid would have fixed the problem temporarily. Any help would be appreciated.
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoParenting advice for 13 year old daughter?
Seems trivial to be asking such a question, but here it is. My daughter was grounded in February. I removed texting from her phone and put a block on the phone to where she could only call me or her father. I also removed myspace and facebook from her computer. She feels I have completely ruined her social life. She is only 13. She needs no social life in my opinion. Anyways, yesterday she took it upon herself to add texting back on her phone. She got on the computer and got into my cellular phone account and added the feature back on her phone. This morning, I once again removed the texting and changed my password on the account to prevent her from making the change again. What can I do to get through to this child. Dont say that I should take the phone away. She has the phone because she has to call me to pick her up from ball practice in the evening, because they never get back at the same time. Her grades have dropped drastically and she doesnt care. I have tried to remove the "distractions" she may have. They teenager years have hit me hard and I am not ready. Teenagers these days know how to push things. Any advice on getting a handle on things? Please only serious advice.
13 AnswersGrade-Schooler1 decade agoMy daughter wants to quit her basketball team?
My daughter plays junior high basketball. She has played basketball since she was in the 3rd grade. She is now in the 8th grade. For the past two years her coach has refused to play her. He plays the 7th graders on the 8th grade team while she sits on the bench. The rare few times that he does play her, she does a really good job and even scores points. She has decided that she wants to quit the team because she never gets to play and is tired of getting looked over. Do I let her quit and stand up for herself or do I make her finish the season even though her heart isn't in the game anymore. I can understand why she wants to quit and I don't think she will be a "quitter". I am however proud of the fact that she wants to stand up for herself and say enough is enough. Does anyone have any suggestions or insight on how to handle this.
11 AnswersGrade-Schooler1 decade agoHow do I get birds from pooping in my swimming pool?
I have a 24' above ground pool. I have a huge problem with birds pooping in it daily. There are no power lines above the pool and they dont seem to be pooping on the rails of the pool. I have heard that rubber snakes work well, however I am dearly afraid of snakes. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone experienced this problem before. I am so tired of cleaning poop from my pool on a daily basis. Please help!
4 AnswersOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoconverting mini dvd to regular dvd?
I have a Hytachi BX35A DVD camcorder. It does not have software capabilities to edit on my pc. I want to take the mini DVD-RW and convert them over to a standard sized DVD to play in my DVD player. The mini dvd only holds 30 minutes of video so I am hoping to be able to fit more on a standard DVD and get my DVD organized. Like have all of the same basketball game on one DVD as opposed to two mini DVD's. I am not a technology wiz so please be specific. Thank you
1 AnswerCamcorders1 decade agoHow do i keep my dogs from running off?
I have two yellow labrador puppies, 9 months old. We live in the country and I would love for them to be able to run on our property. We have 4 acres of open land for them to roam. If I let them out at the same time, they run off. I can let them run one at a time and they do fine, but im sure they would rather run together. How do I teach them to stay on our property, without the expense of an underground fence or wireless fence.
6 AnswersDogs1 decade agonew water well dry after only two months?
We recently built a house. The well digger hit water at 22 feet and continued until the well was 34 feet. He assured us that we would not have any water problems. Well, last week our well was so low, the pump was unable to pump water. We have had alot of rain lately so this really scares me. I was told that it is not so uncommon for a well to be bad during the first year. We did not have a written contract. I have contacted my States Attorney, he says I do not have a case to take legal action. Any suggestions out there as to what I should do. We hauled water the other day, and this is not something i want to get used to.

4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoBasketball coach ruining fun of the game for my daughter?
My daughter plays 6th grade basketball. She is a great player, but the coach will only let the starters play.?
The coach has his "favorite players" with the big names. The rest of the team sits on the bench. My daugher is the only one on the team that can make a lay up and that can handle the ball. I have spoken to him in a nice manor to see if i was missing something. However he just tells me that she isnt good enough, yep, he actually said that. This is a girl that played on the B team at one of her games and stole the ball three times in a row and took the ball down court for a lay up making a total of 6 points within just a few minutes. The starters, im sorry to say, arent really good. They cant shoot and cant handle the ball and they do not hustle. What can i do to help make basketball fun again for my daughter and the other teammates that never play. Short of strangling the coach. P.S. One of the players mother is on the school board so needless to say her child starts and is never taken out of the game.

My mother died two weeks ago. My father has alot of debts hanging over his head. When he dies, can i be held liable for his remaining debts. He has only a $5000 life insurance policy and is too old to take out another policy. I just want to make sure that the collectors cannot come after me and wipe me out financially for the debts he has accumulated.
