  • legal definition?

What exactly is "constructive discharge" from a job? How does it differ from resigning? Can I use it for grounds to apply for unemployment compensation?

  • PT Cruiser repair?

My son said the Cruiser made some squeaking sound from the engine. I haven't driven it yet, but I revved the engine, and around 4,000 RPMs the engine softened and wouldn't go smoothly beyond 4000 RPMS. I don't see anything leaking, such as from a blown head gasket. Is the gas pedal connected to the engine, or is it all electronics now?? I'll have to take it in tomorrow and see if it can be diagnosed.

  • For our British cousins...?

I just read a news item from London that mentioned a piglet found in the back of a truck. The piglet was wrapped in a "duvet" and is expected to recover.

I know there are subtle differences between your English and our American English. A "duvet" is obviously some sort of blanket or coverlet, but I'm unfamiliar with the word. Does it have any further definition?

  • Did anyone else celebrate a birthday today, Thanksgiving 2007? I had a great day, even a turkey-shaped cake!?

The day started a little badly when I argued with my wife regarding some holiday decoration. It improved when my brothers came, and when my son arrived with his girlfriend. My other two kids were home, and they had the day off from work.

We had an excellent dinner with food mostly prepared by me. My son and his girlfriend made a pumpkin spice cake and shaped it like a turkey. That made the day quite special for me! Despite a rocky start, we all enjoyed the day. Best wishes to you if it is your birthday as well!

  • My son's long hair. What do you think?

My son is 23, 6 feet tall, and handsome. His hair hangs down to his shoulders, and he usually wears it in a pony tail. He's a college graduate, very responsible and a nice guy. He has two part-time jobs, one in a bookstore and another in a library. He's a good worker, and his employers like him. He's involved with a Rennaisance reenactment group, which I suppose is one reason he likes his long hair. However, I'm afraid it's a deterrent to getting a good, full-time job. If I were the hiring person, I might be turned off. Am I just being old-fashioned? What do you think of the situation?

  • Dealing with adult child's weight problem?

My 24 year old daughter has a continuing weight problem. She walked to high school, and she walked to her college classes and maintained at least a little control, but now she doesn't get any exercise. What can I do or tell her without offending her that I'm worried about her health and want her to diet and exercise?

  • Garage sale or Auction?

If I want to sell my household goods, which includes furniture, tools, kitchenware, curtains, bedspreads and linens, and just about anything else, which might be the better option, garage sale or auction? Do you have experience with both or either?

  • help with cooking times?

I want to fix a leek and potato galette with our Easter dinner. The recipe says to bake it at 375 for 80-90 minutes. The piece of lamb we're fixing cooks at 325 for about 2 1/2 hours. If I have to have them both in the oven at the same time, how long should the galette cook at the lower temperature?

  • potato-leek galette?

Recently I saw this recipe somewhere, and now I can't find it. I remember that it seemed interesting and easy, and I remember instructions about keeping it pushed down, Does anyone know this, or does this sound familiar?

  • Plain versus flavored yogurt?

I know yogurt has beneficial bacteria to aid digestion. Does plain yogurt have more than fruit yogurt? I seem to think I've heard that before, but I don't remember for certain. Thanks for any input!

  • upset stomach?

I've had a badly upset stomach for 2 1/2 days. I've had pain from gas in the lower right side of my stomach, and I've been unable to eat much of anything. My temperature dropped to around 96, giving me a dull, achy feeling. I haven't had a bowel movement, either. I took a "Gas-X" tablet last night, but didn't get much relief. This morning I feel a little better. Is there anything else I can do to quicken my recovery?

  • Married women's opinions?

In answering a question regarding erectile disfunction and continued sexual interest, one woman responded, "I mean... I'm 33 and I'm tired of it already. I pray for the day when my husband no longer gets horny." Is this a common feeling? How do you feel about it? My wife and I weren't even married until we were 30. We have adapted to my situation, but neither of us has given up our interest. I'm merely curious about this woman's response. What do you think?

  • erection disorder?

I'm 58, and I had bypass surgery 4 years ago. I take Lopressor for blood pressure, and Lipitor and Niaspan for cholesterol, and 162 mg aspirin daily. I can't get a decent erection anymore, and get only half hard. Is my medication to blame, or my age, or a combination? Is there anything I can do besides taking something like Viagra?

  • Teaching ESL in Germany?

I'm thinking about visiting my son in Germany, perhaps for 6 - 8 weeks. Is it reasonable to think I might pick up a little spending money by teaching English lessons to individuals? What might be a fair price to charge for a 1-hour lesson?

  • Where is the Sauerkraut festival?

I couldn't answer my own question about freezing sauerkraut, so I'm responding this way to add that the Sauerkraut Festival I mentioned is in Waynesville, Ohio, this same weekend every year. Waynesville is a small town, and a center for antique shopping. It's on Route 42 in Southwest Ohio, at the intersection of Route 73, not too far from Dayton, Ohio, and just north of Lebanon, the county seat of Warren County. It's a big festival every year. I think I read there were 450 vendors this year, and between 375,000 and 450,000 people attending the two-day affair. No responses are required to this post!

  • Can sauerkraut be successfully frozen and still be good when thawed?

I went to a sauerkraut festival today, and after sampling several sauerkraut disehes, still came home with a pound of bulk sauerkraut. After indulging today, I'm not going to be in a mood to eat more for a little while. Maybe I can bake some in bread, but I'll have a lot left over. Has anyone ever tried to freeze it??
