  • Why would Steam not download one specific game?

I've purchased Crazy Machines 2, Half Life and Counter Strike through Steam. I tried to download CM first, and I got a message saying the servers were busy, so I went to HL and had no problems.. CM again.. too busy.. Counter Strike, no problems.. I've tried to download Crazy Machines for 3 days and it keeps saying the servers are busy. I've tried the clientregistry.blob fix listed on steam's site and the other fixes have to do with firewalls, routers..etc.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it was a firewall issue, wouldn't that problem happen with all games that I'm downloading and not just one?

Anyway, if you know a fix, thanks in advance.

  • Anybody know a fix for Audio/Video synch problems while watching CBSHD?

    The Basics:

    52" HP Plasma tv (1080i)

    DirecTV HD DVR

no home theatre setup, using tv speakers

My problem comes down to one station only and thats CBS and my problem only occurs when watching HD shows. Whenever I watch a show like C.S.I. or more recently the NCAA basketball tournament, all of which were in HD, there is a slight delay between what I see and what I hear. The delay is maybe less than 1/4 of a second, but it's VERY noticeable. I'll see someone talk, but I won't hear it until 1/4 second later. This was extremely annoying watching basketball the last few weeks when you'd see the ball go through the net, but wouldn't hear the "swish" until the other team inbounds the ball.. This also happens on every show broadcast in HD as well as the local CBS news, which is in hd also. Any shows on CBS that are in standard definition are fine. Also any other shows in HD on any other channel are fine as well. My problem is only with my HD service on CBS. Any suggestions

  • I have a question for the people that voted for Sanjaya Malakar on American Idol?

What are you thinking? I'm being serious. I literally want to know why you are voting for him. Do you think he can sing? Do you think he's cute? Is he a charity case? What's the deal with this guy?

and don't get defensive because I haven't said anything bashing him. I seriously want to know why his voters voted for him.

  • Why are shows like Law & Order so popular?

This show is in my opinion pathetic simply because it lacks originality. A crime in real life happens, then a month later the show is about that SAME THING. Does this show really pay their writers for this? How easy is their job?

Now, The Ghost Whisperer is copying the "ripped from the headlines" thing.

Writers in Hollywood complain about reality tv taking their jobs, but these 2 shows and their lack of originality is what's making reality tv and game shows popular.

    Ok, there's my rant.

In the L&O show with Chevy Chase in it, which was based on the Mel Gibson fiasco, or even any of the L&O shows that are based on high-profile cases. Do you think people would change their real life opinion of someone's guilt or innocense based on what they see on the show?

  • Is there a way you can split an audio file?

I downloaded an audio book and it is 150 minutes long. Is there a way I can divide this into 2 - 75 minute files so I can burn it onto cd's?

  • Tivo question.?

To start off, I have a DirecTV receiver with Tivo built in. It's not one of the newer dvr's, it's the old one that actually uses the phone line to get scheduling instead of the satellite, which is what the current dvr's do.

Here's my scenario and question: My dad and I are both college football nuts and our team is playing Thursday night. He is heading off on a weekend vacation to the beach and won't be able to watch the game. When he comes back home, can I take my receiver to his house and hook it up to his tv so he can watch the game on my tivo receiver. He does have directv, as well, if that matters. In my head, I'm thinking I should be able just to connect my receiver straight into his tv and watch the game, but the only problem would be my receiver is going to reset and reboot. Is this going to cause any problems with his current service?

  • Does an HDMI cable replace the standard Yellow/Red/White cables?

I just recently purchased a plasma tv and new home theatre system and, even though the picture quality is better, it isn't the mind blowing quality it was in the store. Is it because I used the standard a/v hookup using the yellow/red/white cords? My dvd player does have an HDMI out (and no, it didn't not come with the HDMI cable). If I hook up the HDMI out on my dvd player directly to the HDMI in on my tv, will I even need the color cords and will this increase my picture quality? If this is the case, any recommendations on what brand of HDMI cable I should buy or is one pretty much the same as all?

  • Will we ever have a non republican/non democrat president?

I'm just curious to see how better or worse off our great country would be if neither of the two big parties had the white house. Any opinions out there of what might have become of us if Ralph Nader, Ross Perot or any other non-big party candidate won the election?

  • High Definition Availability?

I just recently upgraded to a 50" hp plasma television, obviously I've turned into a major couch potato over the last week. I have also upgraded my DirecTV to the hi-def service. My only gripe is that my local channels are not available in hi-def. I live in Greenville, SC and I know it is, by no means, the largest television market in the nation, but with over 3 million people in the market, it also isn't the smallest. I'm sure I'm not the only person set up for hi-def service, so my question is how can I find if/when my local channels will offer high definition service and who can I contact to start putting a little pressure on the local networks to speed up the process of getting it started.
