My mother-in-law has dementia and forgets when we tell her something important. How to deal with this without getting irritated at her?
My husband talked to his mother on the phone this morning and asked her not to eat anything for lunch because we were planning on visiting her and bringing her a hamburger (she loves hamburgers) around 2:00 or 3:00 (she eats lunch late every day). Well, I got a text from my sister-in-law, who lives on the same property as my mother-in-law, that her mom was picked up by her nephew a little before 2:00 and he took her to lunch. I try to remind myself that my mother-in-law has dementia and forgets stuff a lot, but it's hard not to get irritated at her when she does something like this. Any thoughts on this?
17 AnswersFamily1 month agoHow to resist temptation to eat sweets when my husband is a sugar freak?
I’m trying to cut down on sweets and eat healthier to lose a few pounds, but my husband won’t cooperate! He is practically addicted to sugary foods/drinks, and when I don’t oblige him and buy him cookies, cake, candy, etc, he gets angry and says I’m trying to control him. He has high cholesterol and is also a few pounds overweight, and refuses to give up unhealthy foods/sweets to get healthier and lower his cholesterol. I am weak and also love sweets! When they’re not easily accessible, I can avoid them, but when they are sitting out on the counter where I see them every time I walk by, I get weak and eat them. How can I resist temptation to eat unhealthily when the foods/sweets are always available?
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness3 months agoHow long can cooked food straight out of the oven be left sitting out safely before refrigerating it?
I put a small beef pot roast in the oven (along with various veggies), expecting it to be done by 5:00 or 6:00, but it’s already done at 4:00! How many hours can I safely leave the roast sitting out at room temperature?

14 AnswersPolitics3 months agoA friend of mine keeps asking me to go out and eat with her, but I'm not ready since Covid. What should I tell her?
I've told her multiple times that my husband and I are not going out to restaurants right now because of the COVID virus. She's pretty old, and I think she has the early signs of dementia, and therefore, keeps asking the same question week after week. Should I just copy and paste my previous answer, or get more firm and say "Like I said the other half a dozen times you've asked me out, I appreciate the offer, but I'm not going out to restaurants right now due to COVID. Please don't ask me again. When I feel comfortable eating out again, I'll ask you."

How come celebrating Blacks isn't racist, but celebrating whites is??
24 AnswersPolitics3 months agoHow to get over jealousy of knowing my parents love my sister more than me?
I have known for years that my parents favor my younger sister over me. I even recognized it when we were little girls. I don't think she notices it, and I certainly know she deserves it and I love her more than anyone else in my life, after my husband. I am not bitter at all toward her, but I am a little bitter toward my parents. I know my sister is prettier, more successful, and will probably have kids (I haven't and will not have kids). But, even before we grew up, I knew it. I'm not really sure why my parents favor her. Even in the insignificant things, like when we play board games, my mom will "kill off" my pawns when she gets a chance, but let my sister win, just little things like that to remind me about it again.
Anyone with this similar experience? How do you handle the jealousy, if any?
3 AnswersFamily3 months agoIs it common for people with dementia to falsely accuse family members of doing things to them?
My mother-in-law was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago, and has done really well with the exception of short-term memory loss. However, this afternoon, she called my husband (her son) and told him she couldn't find her billfold and asked him if he was playing a prank on her and if he hid her billfold. Are false accusations common for people who have dementia?
Thanks!
4 AnswersSenior Citizens4 months agoMy iPhone X battery health is down 95% in just two weeks. Is this normal?
I bought a brand new, sealed iPhone X on eBay about two weeks ago and the battery health is already down to 95%. It was at 100% when I first received it. Is this normal? I have not stored it in a hot car/room, and I'm not on it 24/7. It's only my second iPhone, so I'm not sure how the battery health is supposed to work.

I cooked a beef roast with veggies, etc, in the oven and just got it out. It is ready to eat, but my husband won't be ready to eat for another hour or so. How long will it be safe to leave it sitting out before I need to refrigerate it?
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 year agoI don't understand why my husband is still grieving the loss of the dog?
My husband used to own this chihuahua dog several years ago, and since his mom loved the dog so much (and since I hate chihuahuas), he gave him to his mom right before we got married nine years ago. The dog just recently passed away a little less than a week ago, and my husband seems to be mourning the dog's death worse than his mom is. He frequently cries (he's very tenderhearted) when he thinks about the dog, and it is really awkward for me because I try to comfort him, but don't understand why he is grieving so badly just for a dog. It's as if he's lost a family member or something!
13 AnswersDogs1 year agoMy MIL’s dog has constant health problems and is very old. Why doesn’t she just have him put to sleep?
My mother-in-law has an old chihuahua that has constant health problems like a pinched nerve in his back, seizures, constant pain, and has recently become lethargic and won’t eat. He is about 16 or 17 years old. Wouldn’t it be more humane to have him put down as opposed to rushing him to the vet several times a month?

6 AnswersOther - Pets1 year agoHow to handle someone who won't stop calling me?
My husband and I have a long-term friendship with this pastor and his wife whose church we used to attend. They pastor a small church and lately, attendance has been down. So, just about every time they're having a special service, the pastor calls me and bugs me to death to come. He calls multiple times a week, and usually at the most inconvenient times. I would block his number, but his wife is a close friend of mine and I don't want to hurt her feelings. Lately, I've been ignoring most of his calls. Any ideas on how to deal with this situation?
3 AnswersFriends1 year agoHow to politely ask your mother-in-law not to bring her dog to your parent's house?
So, my husband and I are doing Christmas at my parent's house this year and his elderly mom might come over for dinner. She has a small dog that she treats more like a child than a dog, and we found out she took him over to her grandson's house today when she went for dinner. Since my mom doesn't like dogs in her house, how can I politely ask my mother-in-law to leave the dog at home without hurting her feelings?
29 AnswersFamily1 year agoIf we go on vacation in the fall during the off-season, should we book hotels ahead of time?
My husband and I are planning to go on a road trip in a couple of weeks and I noticed that the hotels where we are staying are about the same price online as they are walk-in. In that case, should we just show up and ask for a room since we are not going during peak season? Online booking is non-refundable and we don't want to lose our money in case we get sick or have an emergency at the last minute.
