Thumbs Down Over-use?
Is it me, or does there seem to be a gremlin running around giving thumbs down to a lot of answers? I can see TDing the anti's answers, blatently wrong answers, spam, dumb answers (ie. Desert Eagle for CCW), and the like.
But it seems pretty normal to click a question and find every answer with at least a thumbs-down - and I mean good, accurate answers too. Is it out of spite, or what?
I'm all for making thumbs-down raters public. If you "star" a question, your name appears, I think the same should be done for TD's, if even for only the answerer to view. If you have the guts to rate it, you should have the guts to put your name to it.
I know I've never been messaged with the disagreement over an answer that got a TD. This IS supposed to be answers, so if I'm wrong I want to learn something new.
It doesn't bother me personally, but the blatent abuse is annoying. There's no reason to TD everyone's answer in a question.
Wondering if anyone else agrees?
Be Safe.

Here you go:
http://wtnh.tv/blogs/index.php/wtnhweb/2007/09/03/...
Someone sent that to me. I remind you to be respectful, and bring up all the points why hunting and hunters are beneficial for the environment, why you hunt (not to "prove manhood"), and how you use the meat, hide, etc..
There are a lot of ignorant people out there - lets educate them.
7 AnswersHunting1 decade agoIs it just me..? (Hunter Safety Test Questions)?
Is it just me or should we cut back on answering what are obviously hunter-safety class students having us do their tests for them?
Random questions here and there, OK. But there is a flood of questions with multiple choice (A, B, C, D) answers in the additional info part of the question. Quite obviously, its a student asking answers for the test.
Examples:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aue43...
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Anhgq...
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap.B7...
I really don't want this person in the field next to me with a loaded gun or bow if they can't do the test themselves. Honest - I'm all for answering questions, but this test is supposed to make sure the student understands the material and retains it, and can answer extremely simple questions. My 2 cents...take it or leave it
17 AnswersHunting1 decade agoDream about a girl..?
So to set this up, there's this girl I've hung out with and had my eye on since last fall, through the winter until recently - she hasn't been around in a while at the recreational club I frequent. I started to like her just before she stopped, and the last time we were together there she was helping me do things and talking to me, kind of flirting, smiling... I miss having her around a lot.
Now the dreams...
I dream about her quite a bit - a lot of just being together along with some romance and kissing. One dream that stood out though, was me being somewhere along a river, and all of a sudden looking up at a subdivision of houses and thinking "thats where she lives". So I climb up this maybe 30' cliff-like retaining wall, and somehow call her on a two-way radio (which I actually have) and she guides me to the house. We meet, hug, and set off walking together and then I can't remember any more.
What's my subconscience telling me?
6 AnswersDream Interpretation1 decade agoWhy do the people that post the most false and inflammatory answers...?
...not provide any way of contacting them privately?
For one, the "hunter bashers" that crash this place seem to like a "hit and run" way of pushing their views, with no fact or basis to back them up. Hardly worthy of a response because most is simple opinion, but once in a while they say something falsely stated as fact that in one way or another makes you want to reply and tell them how wrong they are.
Next comes the anti-gun crowd - the most lame of the answerers here. Someone asks a legitimate firearm question, only to have someone give a lame non-answer like "wut r u gona do shot sum1?". Note the wonderful spelling. Then we have the more sophisticated anti's that push false "facts" about gun owners being shot with their own gun "a lot" and falsely state that absolutely "none" (zero) instances of lawful citizens defending themselves with firearms exist. Despite that citizens defend themselves every day, as published in many sources, including "American Rifleman" magazine.
11 AnswersHunting1 decade agoGetting a flame started with an old acquaintance..?
Well, this is the last place I'd ever think of getting advice, but.. A little background; I'm coming off a failed, but what was, a serious long-distance relationship - we seperated over differences that we couldn't work out . It was my first serious relationship, and grew via phone, email, letters, and IM while she is at college in OR. I'm ready to start searching again, but closer to home..
I happened to be poking around Myspace and found an old friend. I haven't seen her in about 3 years, since I moved 55 miles or so east. We were acquaintances from church, and saw each other pretty often. I had a crush on her, but never had the guts to say (ahh being a kid). I contacted her, and she remembered me! I wrote a little note, but she's been kind of quiet - she told me how I can keep in touch, email, etc. I had a little "e-flower gift", so I sent it to her and she said "thanks!", but thats about it. I have a "charmer" personality, but I can't get it going....

1 AnswerSingles & Dating1 decade agoWhere's my "Top Contributor" Sign?
Hmmm.. I'm at level 4, and am the second highest answerer in the Rail category... Sooo where would my Top Contributor sign be? Not that its really that important, but once I saw those pop up, I expected to have one, and natta. I see quite a few people who are in the top 10 (but not top) answerers in a category with these. Is there other criteria??
13 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoFlying New England to Portland, OR?
A few questions...
Flying from the Northeast (from either New York, Bradley in CT, or Boston) to Portland, Oregon, what would the best bet be for an airline? Looking for combination of lowest fare, best service, and shortest flight time? Average cost of a round trip?
Are there non-stop flights? How long on average time in plane?
How about from PDX (Portland) to BDL (Bradley)? Time? Cost for round trip?
Just fishing for some info here... Looking to visit my fiancee or vice-versa sometime in the future..
Thanks!
3 AnswersOther - United States1 decade agoI was wrong. Is Oxymanron man enough to say he was?
Two can play, I usually don't take to this level.
It seems my info was partially erroneous, tho' speaking on a national level, there was a published ad put forth by the NYNH&HRR stating it had the "First Electrified Main Line" with a picture of its four-track main, AC catenary, dating to 1907. First in the USA, rather than the world, which was a misinterpretation on my part - though its debatable whether the one in 1881 Germany was a "main" or "branchline".
I do know for a fact earliest American (branchline) electrification was with 3rd rail on DC voltage in 1895..the Baltimore Belt lines got its down first and NYNH&H was right behind. From page 308 New Haven Power ISBN 0-944513-09-3.
If we want to take to the next level, we have Ben Franklin, a great American to thank for the first experiments with using electricity for our use.. we can thank American Thomas Edison for the first light bulb which surely opened the door for electric trains.
I was wrong. How 'bout you Oxy?
3 AnswersRail1 decade agoStar Wars Episodes I-III -- Like a bad daytime TV soap?
I am a Star Wars fan, don't get me wrong. The imagination and design is great in all 6 episodes and the resulting video games (X-Wing Alliance, Rogue Squadron, for instance) are awesome.. Episodes IV (New Hope), V (Empire Strikes Back), VI (Return of the Jedi) were great -- the story and the presentation..
It seems to me at least something was lost in I (Phantom Menace) II (Attack of the Clones), and III (Revenge of the Sith).
Episode III especially just seemed to play out like a bad soap opera you see on daytime network TV. I and II were so-so, but not up to standards of the last three movies done 1977-1983.
So a question...
What was your impression of I-III vs IV-VI?
Anything else you'd like to add would be welcome.
