Why do the people that post the most false and inflammatory answers...?
...not provide any way of contacting them privately?
For one, the "hunter bashers" that crash this place seem to like a "hit and run" way of pushing their views, with no fact or basis to back them up. Hardly worthy of a response because most is simple opinion, but once in a while they say something falsely stated as fact that in one way or another makes you want to reply and tell them how wrong they are.
Next comes the anti-gun crowd - the most lame of the answerers here. Someone asks a legitimate firearm question, only to have someone give a lame non-answer like "wut r u gona do shot sum1?". Note the wonderful spelling. Then we have the more sophisticated anti's that push false "facts" about gun owners being shot with their own gun "a lot" and falsely state that absolutely "none" (zero) instances of lawful citizens defending themselves with firearms exist. Despite that citizens defend themselves every day, as published in many sources, including "American Rifleman" magazine.
These same people twist facts and statistics to their advantage, despite that everyone knows better. It seems their only reason for answering is to push their agenda and make themselves feel better. Truly it can't be doing any good here. Better yet are the International respondents calling us "trigger happy American cowboys". Yippee-kay-yay...Bruce Willis had something that follow that phrase but I'll leave it at that.
All of us sane law-abiding citizens who respect the 2nd Amendment and why our Founding Fathers put it in our Constitution know the truth. But, unfortunately, it seems the great uneducated, media driven, liberal masses won't let us even attempt to educate them... why?
Baking Betty,
Thank you for taking the time to answer. However, your answer leaves me scratching my head. Do you honestly believe that anyone who owns a gun is "pro-Columbine murder, pro-VT murder, and pro-JFK assassination"??? That was the tone I took from your reply. Seems to me by that reasoning any boat owners out there are "pro-Titanic". Its also worth noting, that the criminals of Columbine and VT should never legally have been able to purchase or own those firearms, by the laws already on the books regarding ownership. Doesn't it look like law-enforcement needs to do its job? JFK was killed by two 6.5 Carcanno bullets fired from a bolt-action rifle - not a "semi-automatic weapon". Also worth noting that a gun, a knife, a car, is not a weapon until used as such. Cavemen made knives to kill but does anyone call them weapons all the time? There are millions of semi-automatics (and all types for that matter) that serve all gun owners alike for sporting and when needed self-defense
Mojo,
Re-read my message.I did not say a car is a weapon too.
I said a gun is no more a weapon than a car is UNTIL its used to harm someone. A car is a tool, a firearm is a tool - run someone over or shoot someone THEN and its a weapon. Same goes for knives - they were created to kill, hunt, cut things - but they are knives in daily life. Stab someone THEN its a weapon.
You cannot argue that ALL guns are created and purchased with the intent of harming. That arguement is poorly thoughtout and unreasonable. If that gun NEVER is used to harm someone it is not a weapon! Its a defining impossibility. Weapons are actually USED to harm someone. Thats no excuse not to treat firearms, as any machine with respect, but indicting every firearm, from competition trap guns to precision .22's to National Match M1A's and pistol, is pure idiocy.
A gun fired in SELF-DEFENSE becomes a weapon, but its justified! Police have no responsibility to protect us, as ruled in COURT! Hunting is lawful!

I feel your pain. Us law abiding, responsible, gun owners, shooters, etc get the bad rap for what a few idiots do, so we are just as psycho as every other criminal with a gun.
When are people going to realize that a crimanls rarely "legally" purchase or posses a gun. There are some who slip through the cracks but overall, gun owners are decent people.
No one makes a fuss about who gets a driver's license. We let kids at the age of 16 drive around a 3-4 thousand pound killing machine, and millions of them do it everyday, with the stereo cranked, a load of their friends in the car, while talking on the cell phone, they have accidents, kill more people than bullets do, yet it's ok because it is only a car. They can't even vote yet!
I have to have a background check, fill out a ton of papers for the county sheriff, pay fees for permits and basically go through a huge hassle just to purchase a handgun while they are in and out of the License office in less than an hour.
What about those people who fear guns but know absolutely nothing about them? A gun is a machine, like a car, a boat, or a electric jigsaw. It is only as good as the operator. If the operator is an idiot, psycho killer, then it is still not the machines fault! Baseball bats are sold to anyone who walks in the store, and they are more than capable of killing someone!
I spent over 10 years in the Marines, we ate, slept, walked, rode and lived with weapons, all the time. They never left your sight. We were taught to handle and use them for their intended purpose, safely. It became a way of life. For those who were scared or never saw or shot a weapon before, they got over it pnce they realized that guns were just a tool of the trade, nothing special or spectacular.
Most of the general public only know about guns from what thet see on TV and in theaters, and of course the newspaper. These people are the problem. I am sure they "think" they know what guns are about, but as we know, they have no clue and are just scared. Since they are scared they want guns, and gun owners to go away, like the little kid with the "monster in the closet" at bedtime.
Ironically, most don't realize that had it not been for guns and people who fought for their rights to own them (among other rights), this country would not exists today.
You know what I am say so I will stop now. But yes, I would love to give some of these people a clue, but they don't want one from me (or people like us) because we are evil, sick, demented gun owners.

Firearms are tools. THey dont hurt people the idiot pulling the triger does. Is that a hard concept to grasp? Anyway I'm a proud firearm owner. Safety first wether im at a CMP shoot or hunting its only a tool, Untill its used to hurt someone. Easy concept to grasp i think.

A lot of these people from my experience are socially isolated individuals who just want to be apart of the group and feel loved, regardless of what the message is. They cannot have this happy feeling if they have people contacting them with the "real" facts and not this twisted junk spewed by the brady campaign.

Do you feel better now! hope so. so do I after reading your statment. But the only thing you did was give them a reason to keep after you.[us]. The anti gun fools will keep on comming. remember don't vote for any thing against out door sports-hunting/shooting of any kind. thats how they shut down Bear hunting in fl. lots of stil hunters voted against dogs so when bear hunting opinon came around all dog hunters said can't hunt with dog then no one should hunt. what goes around comes around and so on. but they kept the list and combined the two. making it 76 % against check the facts and support NRA. I would say that most who post inflammatory responses and don't include a means to contact them are knuckleheads looking to stir things up. For me personally, if they want to flame, let them and god bless them for it, even though they possess the IQ of a thumb tack and the grammatical prowess of a blithering idiot..they are exercising their right to free speech and expression. NOW if we can only get the rest of America to shake off their slumber and join together with those of like minds and put a leash on the politicos running a muck in Washington..this place just might be livable for our children

RRRRIIIIIIIGGGHHHHHTTT!!!!!!
Altho there are many who hide their contacts BECAUSE of these little inflammatory sociopathic COWARDS, many don't have the intestinal fortitude to accept the ridicule of their asinine comments! I just think it's SSOOOO funny!
I have it happen to me several times a week! At least we don't have to waste the time in attempting to re-educate the ignoramuses!

I am a liberal, and not anti-gun, just anti- Virginia Tech, anti- Columbine, anti- assassination of JFK... you know... crazy people armed with semi-automatic weapons and set free among the masses of the likes of you and I? I believe in self-defense and the right to be arms. I think more people would be okay with it, if more people had a little more faith in the average intelligence of Americans and how they use weapons. Actually, that was a complete lie, I think we doubt the intelligence of America for good reason, this just being an instance. As for people who don't leave a way to contact them.... that is just because not everyone who uses Yahoo is sane, and I would prefer to protect myself from that. As for others, I don't know what their reason is, but perhaps you're right and they are just embarrassed and prefer to hide behind their bad spelling and 1st grade grammar. Don't worry, you're not the only one wondering...

I agree with you totally! hooray for us hunters and gun lovers. Down with tyrants who try to dictate to us in this matter or any others.

The reason your "a car is a wepon too" argument does not work is this; A car is a mode of transportation, and practical for day-to-day life. Granted, it can be used to hurt people/animals, but that is not it's expressed purpose. A gun is designed and bought for one reason, and that is causing harm. While it's true that many people have guns in their houses "for protection," having a gun in your dresser drawer does not magically mean you won't get your house broken into, it means you can hurt who ever is doing it. In that way, even a gun bought for protection is still owned explicitly to injure and/or kill.
The case with hunting is the same. Regardless of whether or not you are pro hunting, the simple fact is that one uses a hunting rifle to kill, not pick up the kids from soccer and grab groceries for dinner. Even a gun bought for "recreational" purposes is bought with the intention of harming others (by others I referto animals, not humans). A gun serves no purpose other than to kill or injure regardless of the facade one uses to justify its ownership.
Am I saying guns should be illegal? No. Am I saying that a comparison to a car is silly and poorly thought out? Yes.
Guns need to be recognized for what they are; inherently dangerous and something that should be avoided at all costs.
