  • MS Access 2003: Remove duplicates?

I have a contact manager DB in Access 2003. I receive new contact data daily from my dispatcher which I then import into Access as a text file.

It is possible that data can contains records that I have previously included on earlier imports. This causes duplicate contacts to appear in my DB.

Example: I have two imports. Mary Smith at 120 Main street is included in both imports.

A simple find duplicate query has no problem finding the duplicate records.

However, in some cases I have already changed the data that came in the first import.

Example: After importing the first batch of data I have scheduled an applointment with Mary and recorded the date and time in her original record.

All records are given a unique ID #

I need to create a Find and Remove Duplicate query that will find my duplicate contacts (i.e., all records for Mary Smith at 120 Main Street) ,,, then Identify and delete any duplicate contact record from second import.(i.e., those records containing the higher contact ID# that DO NOT contain the appointment Date and Time information.)

The resulting table should contain only unique records (if duplicates were found the records containing the higher contact ID would be deleted.

Example: only one record for Mary Smith that also contains the appointment date and time info.

I hope that makes sense. It sounds simple to me but it is a couple steps beyond the basic find duplicate query and beyond my puny brain capacity to figure out and design.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    thx

  • Microsoft Access How Do I link the fields in an existing form to data in a new table?

    I use Access 2003.

I have a custom contact manager that I created as a form in Access. I have the fields set up to conform to the fields in a standard comma delimited text file.

Unfortunately the data fields in the extenal text file have changed (i.e., field name and column position) and I no longer read the data into my Form.

I have tried to add new fields to the table linked to the form with no success.

I now think it best to just use the Form as a template and create a new table to conform to the new data layout of my external data.

Unfortunately, I have forgotten how to read the new data into my old contact manager form.

I know this is rather a basic question but I am working in the field right now and have little chance to read and study to find the answer to my problems.

Please help me and shed some light on my problem :)

    Thank you

  • Why can't I access my old Yahoo page? This new format sucks!?

I've been a happy yahoo user for at least 10 years (probably more).

Now It seems we have been switched to this new format.

    Plainly it sucks.

If I'm forced to use it and can not go back to my previous format. I can find a service other than yahoo.

DEAR YAHOO!!! Please rethink your plan to force long time users to comply with the new format. It is not an improvement.

  • Microsoft Access Question 3?

Before I can open my database in Access I encounter a security question that warns me that my file may be unsafe to open if it contains evile code.

I created the database so I know there is no harmful code.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of that annoying message?

    Thanks,

  • Microsoft Access Question 2?

I need to import text data into an Access database table.

But, one of the fields in the table is a date/time format.

I use that particular field to do a time/date calculation.

Unfortnately, whenever I do a data import that field is not recognized because of its time/date format/

If I change the field's setting to text I can import the datea flawlessly.

Does any one have any suggestions how I can solve the problem so that the table accepts my text import seamlessly?

All of the other fields in the table are ok.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Microsoft Access Question?

I have a question about copyrighting an Access database.

I created about ninety percent of the database (essentially a customized contact manager) but I did use a small part that I got from a Microsoft template

Does anyone know how this section affects my ability to copyright the rest of the database?

My only frame of reference is when I wrote academic papers in college.

I have never written a software program before.

My assumption is that I would simply give credit to Microsoft for that section of their template that I used.

Is that correct? If not I suppose I could backward engineer the section and build my own.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
