Of all the jobs I've had, being a good parent is the most difficult...but the help of a good wife makes it easier. Former broadcast journalist (still a news junkie) and an unpublished songwriter. Let's talk world events/religion, music and relationships/families!

  • Chris Brown: guilty or a victim of his own image?

Poor Chris...is he a victim of his own success?

Is his girlfriend, Rihanna jealous of his success and is making up stories about him being abusive?

    Or...

    Did he really:

    > push Rihanna's head against the window, punched her with his right hand, and then continued driving while hitting her?

    >bite her on the ear?

    >threatened to kill Rihanna after she pretended to leave a phone message with her assistant, telling her to have the police waiting at her house?

    > hit her, causing Rihanna's mouth to fill with blood?

    > tried to choke Rihanna after she took the keys to his car away?

    > did Rihanna nearly lose consciousness but also tried to fight back while in the car, at one point trying to gouge at Brown's eyes?

Should we feel sorry for this 19-year-old R&B singer and simply write it off as a boyfriend/girlfriend argument...and that it is okay to smack your woman around?

    What say you?

  • Should we give every American $1 million?

From my point-of-view, our tax dollars are being given to bail out incompetent corporations.

Recent news sheds light on the fact that some of those businesses even paid Christmas bonuses to their CEO's with our tax dollars.

And still, these companies are struggling and asking for ever more government help.

So...why not give every American man, woman and child each one million dollars?

This way, we all have an equal shot at paying off the home mortgage, starting that new business, getting that college degree, setting up our retirement fund and otherwise, stimulate the economy.

    The added bonus?

It would be a lot less expensive than the billions of dollars we've already spent on some of those companies.

It is, after all, OUR money.

Shouldn't WE have an equal chance to bail ourselves out?

  • Are you a 'gender' or 'race' voter?

If you follow this fascinating race between Sen. Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton and Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., no doubt you've heard reports of voter’s fretting over whether to vote for one or the other JUST BECAUSE of the candidate’s gender and/or race.

Many black women supporting Clinton have been blasted because they aren't supporting their race...just as many white women supporting Obama catch flack for not backing a female.

    Where do you stand?

To me, it seems pretty darn silly...and very dangerous.

I try to vote for the person who is best qualified to get us out of the eight year mess our current president has led us into.

I could care less if the person is half-German, half-Chinese trans-sexual eunuch...as long as they have the brains to bring America together and sort out the problems.

So, let me know where you stand on the gender/race issue!

  • Were the tornadoes God's punishment for voting Huckabee?

Okay - I'm just poking fun at the FUNdamentalists...but ya know, after Pat Robertson linked Hurricane Katrina and terrorist attacks to legalized abortion, I just HAD to pose this question.

I certainly do not mean to diminish the pain, suffering and loss to those tornado victims.

But the very smug, self-righteous evangelicals ALWAYS seem to blame natural disasters as some form of retribution from God.

So...taken in the context of humor, what do you think?

Is God punishing us for giving southern state wins to Huckabee?

  • Jamie Spears: rape victim or pathetic teen role model?

So little miss sweet-tart is preggo.

16-year old Jamie Lynn Spears (younger sister of Britney) stars in Nickelodeons’ “Zoey 101”.

According to Louisiana "Age of Consent Laws" (see link, below), this falls under the category of "Felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile"..i.e, rape.

She met her sperm donor at church (nice!).

Anyone wanna bet that 19-year old Casey Aldridge won't stick around to play the role of pappa?

What kind of message does this send to America's youth?

I suppose Jamie was jealous of all the well-deserved criticism her no-talent older sister was getting for being a drunk, drugged-out, no-talent mom-from-hell redneck wreck.

Nickelodeon should drop Jamie like a hot potato if not on moral grounds then for legal reasons.

What’s your view on this – is it okay for little girls to get knocked up?

Or, should we just coddle the little darlin’ and say “tisk-tisk, what will be will be”?

I about choked when I read this on the news:

“Jamie Lynn plans to raise the baby in her

    “Normal”?

There is nothing normal about a minor having a baby.

  • How should we punish Yahoo! for their complicity?

Yahoo! was a stool pigeon for the communist Chinese government.

Their ratting out of a Chinese journalist to the government led to the journalist getting arrested and thrown into jail.

Yahoo! doesn't seem to have a problem punishing some of us if we violate some of their guidelines - and I would argue that some of those guidelines are very vague.

  • Is Britneys' "Blackout" a BURNOUT?

Although a lot of fans appairently are buying Britney Spears' latest album, some critics are panning it.

One critic went so far as to say:

"If a blow-up sex doll could sing, this is what she'd sound like," wrote Jim Farber.

"In terms of studio trickery, Paris Hilton's album was practically 'unplugged' compared to this."

    (source, below)

    I've heard a few cuts.

    My only comments about it:

If you like listening to and paying for the slow implosion of a washed-up pop-tart who utilizes studio trickery, then this album is for you.

    What say you?

  • Direct Wine Shipments - allowed in your state?

Ugh! Oklahoma law prevents direct wine shipments to a consumer.

Third-party wine merchants in our state hold a tight grip on sales and are afraid of competition.

This restriction is not helpful to our state wineries, which are not allowed to ship out of state as well.

We had a few bills before the state legislature, but they died this session.

Does your state allow direct shipment or if not, are you fighting to overturn the law?

  • Baghdad Vacation: anyone else P.O.’ed about this?

    Yesterday, Iraq's parliament began a month-long vacation.

    U.S. troops are dying.

President Bush's nominee to be top military adviser said today the United States will be in Iraq for "years not months".

And a Pentagon official said the war was costing even more than expected.

Regardless of your stand on the Iraq invasion and the recent so-called “troop surge”, at THIS point in time, do you feel as if we’re wasting our people and resources over there?

  • Is Clinton nothing more than "a ventriloquist for the patriarchy with a skirt and a vagina"?

Seems very odd that just a few years ago, Hillary Clinton was the darling of the feminist set.

Now, you have some of the most powerful women coming out against Ms. Clinton.

Jane Fonda compares Clinton to "a ventriloquist for the patriarchy with a skirt and a vagina."

Nora Ephron said of Clinton: "she will do anything to win, who believe she doesn't really take a position unless it's completely safe."

    What happened?

Is she pissing off the far-left liberals?

  • Does America's drug habit fuel illegal immigration?

    What is your view?

Is our concern of losing jobs to illegal immigrants blinding us to the real problem?

Regarding the news link (below), Mexican drug cartels are now attacking the Mexican

    Military.

The cartels would not do this unless there was a lot of money at stake.

And American drug addicts are paying that money.

Perhaps the so-called “War on Drugs” should be re-thought and re-packaged as part of the war on terror.

My best analysis is this: if our government does not act quickly to stop illegal immigration, Americans will witness a new wave of drug-fueled terror in our streets.

Please note that this is not a diatribe against Mexicans who come here legally to work or those seeking to become citizens.

I am not one of those “English-only” xenophobic people who don’t want anyone in our country but Americans. Immigrants made this country great and I welcome the good citizens from south-of-the-border as long as they abide by our laws.

  • No schlepping on Shabbat?

An American Jew was shopping on Regent Street in London.

He entered a posh gourmet food store.

A sales representative in a long morning coat with a tie and tails approached: "May I be of help to you, Sir?"

"Yes, I'd like a pound of lox."

"I'm sorry, Sir, do you mean smoked salmon?"

"Okay, a pound of smoked salmon."

    "Anything else, Sir?"

    "Yes, a dozen blintzes."

"I believe you mean crepes, Sir."

    "Okay, a dozen crepes."

    "Anything else, Sir?"

"Yes, a pound of chopped liver."

"You are probably referring to pate, Sir."

"Okay, a pound of pate, and could you deliver this on Saturday?"

"I'm sorry, Sir, we don't schlep that chazerai on Shabbes!"
