  • How should I handle my extremely hard to please mother?

I will start out by saying that I love my mother dearly. I truly do and I am an adult (30 years old). But she drives me nuts because it seems like she has to complain about everything. It seems like nothing ever makes her happy. My parents have two dogs (one adult dog, and a puppy that my mom got because she was complaining about how little the adult dog wasn't paying her attention), and my mom is always complaining how she never gets any time to herself away from the dogs because the puppy is always begging for her attention and follows her everywhere. However, she has done very little to train the dog and she always gives into his attention seeking ways. She is even unwilling to leave the house and let the dog be on it's own for a bit. She says that she hates them being alone. She also always complains about my father too, about how he never does anything for her. My mom does not work, but my dad works his *** off so that she can stay around the house and do nothing. I am not joking when I say that normally, all she does is sit around the house and watch TV. The fact is, he tries to help her out any way possible as well. They even have a vacation house at a lake and she always complains about how tired of going she is of going every weekend. She really can't be happy with anything.

I know I sound insensitive and I know that being a puppy mommy and a housewife can be hard work, but I wish she would be more grateful. She has a wonderful family and she needs to cherish it before it gets taken away from her. I just get tired of hearing her complain when she won't do anything about it. How should I deal with her? I try to listen to her because I am her daughter. But it is getting tiring. Thank you.

  • Should I call animal control on these people?

I live in an apartment complex and near my building, these people have two American Pit Bull dogs that they leave on their balcony all day and night, even during storms and in the heat. It has been getting up into the high 80s here the past week. I am not sure that they get adequate food and water, but they look lethargic and appear to always be laying there sad. All they have is a small wire cage. So I am not sure whether to call because I dont want to be a busybody and scared that if they do get confiscated from the owners, that they will go to the kill shelter and wont get adopted. So, what should I do?

  • I found a little bit of blood in my dog's stool this morning....is this normal?

On Tuesday, my dog had her rabies shot and for the last couple of days, her stool has seemed more runnier than normal. I have started feeding her more each day as well. But she seems normal. She is still playing around and everything. I am still a little worried although I haven't seen anymore blood today in her stool. Thanks

  • What to do about my demanding Chihuahua puppy?

My 15 week old Chihuahua, Daisy, is a sweet little puppy. But every now and then, she can be a pest, especially when wants attention. She will try to jump up on the couch when I am sitting there and she just scratches at my legs. I am trying to ignore her when she does this, but the more I ignore her, the longer she does it. She is a persistent little thing. I play with her and I provide her with a lot of toys that keep her stimulated and I pay a lot of attention to her. So how can I get her to stop? Thanks.

  • I need some advice on crate training my puppy?

I just got my new 9 week chihuahua puppy less than a week ago and I am trying to get her crate trained. In her crate, I have put some blankets, a nice bed, and some toys in there and I have placed it near my bed at night. I put her in there at night and she whines, but I let her whine and she stops within 10 mins or less and sleeps 2 hours before I have to let her out to the bathroom. I wait til she is quiet to let her out and I make her use the restroom and then put her back into her crate and she whines again. I let her whine it out again until she stops and she doesn't wake up til early morning. I also put her crate in here in the living room during the day and put her in there when she naps. I have started feeding her in the crate as well. Am I doing this right? If there is anything that I am doing wrong, please tell me. I want her to get adjusted to it. Thanks!

  • How do I stop my puppy from whining?

I just brought home an almost 9 week old puppy and she always wants constant attention, which I give her. I always lay in the floor and play with her and try to tire her out. But when I get up, she always seems to start whining for attention. Would ignoring her be the best way to go or should I keep holding her. I realize she is still scared and trying to get used to things tho.

  • My cat is being a pain...what should I do?

One of my cats is being a royal pain in the butt here lately. She is a year old or less and she is very clingy. When we go into the bedroom and shut the door, she claws her way under the door and tries to get in. We try squirting her with water, but she comes back and does it again. She seems to be very persistent on getting attention. We pet her and love on her all of the time. What should I do? Thanks!

  • I have an interview with American Eagle on Thursday; What should I wear?

I am just wondering what to wear because I don't currently own an outfit from there even though I really like their clothes and I don't have any extra money to buy a new outfit. I know their style is casual with a little bit of boho. Thanks!

  • How do I keep my cats out of the kitchen?

I have two new cats and even though they are both really sweet, it is a pain trying to keep them out of the kitchen. I have tried spraying them with a water bottle, but they still try to sneak by me when I am in there. What should I do? Thanks!

  • Bath and Body Works Interview on Friday: What should I wear?

I have an interview with Bath and Body Works on Friday and I am not really nervous. When I turned in my application, the store manager seemed really impressed that I have previous experience in a retail setting ( I worked at J.Crew). However, I am not always really sure what to wear to retail interviews. I am thinking about wearing an open cardigan with black pants, simple black flats, and some light jewelry. Is this a good outfit, or should I wear something else? Thanks!

  • How should I handle my mother, who uses guilt trips to get her way?

I am 30 years old and I live far away from my parents with my husband. I am an only child as well. My mother does not handle my living on my own far away too well. Neither of my parents have been scared of me spreading my wings. They made me go to college near home and they wouldn't let me stay in a dorm there because they didn't want me living there and they thought I would be safer at home. When I decided to move in with my then fiance, they nearly had a stroke. My mother calls me 2-3 times a day to "check in" on me. like I am ten years old. I grew up with them criticizing my appearance, how I spent my time, and what kind of friends I had. I am getting sick of it because I am a grown woman.

My husband is supposed to go on a business trip soon and while he is gone, I promised my friends that they could come and visit me for a week or so. This was planned far in advance. My mother calls me and asks me what I am going to do while he is gone and I tell her that my friends are coming down that week. She goes "Oh, I thought that maybe you would come home'. She gets angry and hangs up on me. That really made me angry because I am not going to break a promise to my friends just because my mother guilt tripping into having things her way.

She never even tries to make an effort to drive down here to see me. Whenever I ask her when she is coming down, she has some sort of an excuse such as "It's too expensive", or "I don't know how to get down there". Then she expects me not to get angry about it. I understand that they are kind of struggling for money right now and it's hard, but many times, even though I had no money, I still came to visit them. The only thing they would be spending money on would be gas. The rest they wouldn't have to worry about. But no, they keep on making the same excuses.

I understand my mom misses me because she had me to herself for a long time and it's hard on a parent when their child leaves the nest. But I wish she would let me have my own life and stop trying to control mine. So am I being too unreasonable, or is she? Thanks!

  • What to do about my guilt tripping mother?

I am 30 years old and married to a wonderful man. He is going on a business trip in less than a week and I will be alone for the first time. My friends are planning to come down that week. I tell my mother about my husband's business trip and about my friends coming to visit me. She gets angry and goes.."I thought you were coming to see us". It's been a month since I've seen her because I live so far away from my family. I never told her I was coming yet she expects me to come. She never comes to see me and always makes up an excuse. Yet she gets all upset if I don't go out of my way to travel to see her. What should I do? I care about her so much so I don't want to be mean.

  • What is it like living in Goldsboro, NC?

My fiance got a job offer there and if everything goes through okay, we will be moving there soon. So what is it like living there? How much crime is there? I read online that Goldsboro seems to have a lot of crime, which worries me a little bit. Thanks!

  • My mom seems jealous of my future mother in law...what shall I do?

While I was living with my fiance in another state, he lost his job. However, he had an interview for a job near his hometown, so we decided to move in with his folks until things got better or if the job went through and until we were able to afford our own place again. Sadly, he didn't get his job and we are still living with his parents. He has a minimum wage job to pay the bills.

The thing is that I had an interview the other day for a minimum wage job to as well and sadly, I found out tonight that I didn't get it. I didn't tell anyone but my fiance about it and I was so upset, I didn't feel like saying anything about it. So I just put it up as a status on Facebook. His mom writes "I am here for you and everything will be okay". This makes my mom angry and she says that they have replaced her and my father as my family and she was angry that I didn't call her first thing when I found out. What should I do? I talk to her every day and tell her everything that is going on in my life. I am trying to understand and I apologized.

  • Help....my mom is trying to run my own wedding?

So I have a wedding coming up this year and we are in the process of planning it. My mom has offered to pay for it. First of all, since she has offered to pay for it, I have let her have some things her way, like the flowers and maybe even how to decorate the reception hall. But I feel like that every time I have an idea as to how I want it done, she shoots me down. For instance, I showed her the kind of ring pillow and flower girl basket I wanted for the wedding, but she shot me down on that too. She keeps adding more and more people to the guest list and then she even wants to control how I am to look on my wedding day. She insists that I get fake nails and a spray tan for my wedding, which I refuse to do both. I am trying to be a good daughter and compromise with her since I have never even been in a wedding in my life. But at the same time, this is OUR wedding, not hers. How do I deal and still keep my sanity? Thanks.

  • I have problem with Christmas plans with my family this year...help!?

This year, my fiance has to work Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas, meaning that our plans are that we spend time with his family Christmas morning possibly and then, we go up to my family's house for the day and then drive back home. We currently live in the same hometown as my fiance's, therefore, our families are two hours apart. However, my mom is wanting my fiance and I to drive separate cars so that I can stay with at their house for a couple of days after Christmas. My fiance however thinks that it is a waste of gas to drive two vehicles up there. I am scared if I say "no" to my mom about staying two more days, that she will cause a scene and say that I don't care about her anymore. I am scared about hurting her feelings. I am scared that if I comply with my mom's wishes that my fiance will get angry for once again giving into my mom. What should I do? This is so hard. I will be hurting someone's feelings either way.

  • My mom got mad at me for no reason...what should I do?

My mom has been in an irritable mood all day. I talked to her via Facebook this morning and I had to walk away from the computer for a bit and she had logged off. When I called her, she said that she had tried to go to bed and then I woke her up. She bitched at me for calling her and waking her up. I feel bad and shouldn't have done it and I apologized. She is going through menopause right now and she has her good and bad days. I am trying to be patient with her., but sometimes she can be so mean. And I know she doesn't mean to be. What should I do?

  • I am almost 30 and my parents still treat me like a child! What to do?

I am almost 30 years old and an only child. I live two hours away from them and they complain constantly about how far away I am and want me to move closer, if not back home. However, my fiance may be getting a job that will put us living 5 hours away from them and they are not happy. They constantly try to run my life and make me feel guilty for living so far away, even though I make trips up there to see them every 3 weeks and talk to them every day. However, they never try to come visit me, even though I have invited them countless times. I am getting sick and tired of this......any advice is helpful...thanks!
