Not enough extended memory to run Windows?
I tried the "Microsoft approach", but there is nothing wrong with the system.ini file. Config.sys is empty, and so is HIMEM.sys; emm386 driver does not appear to be installed. I ran "mem", and it says that I have 129Mb of extended memory available. Any ideas?
The system is IBM T21 with a single 128 Mb chip and a 9Gb hard drive

1 AnswerZoology1 decade agoWhat are the components of roof replacement?
I've been soliciting bids to get our roof replaced (it's at least 30 years old), and estimates are all over the place. I checked out BBB, and all roofers seem to be reputable (several generations in business with excellent references). Estimate 1: $6000 remove old shingles, replace with new 25 year shingles, new flashing, pipe flanges, felt, OSB board on entire roof, remove chimney to the roof level. #2: $4200 Remove/replace roof, 15 lb felt, 25 year shingles, plankwood if needed @$5/ft, remove chimney to roof level. #3: $3500: Remove/replace roof with 25 year shingles, new 15 lb felt, repair or install new metal, new flashing, replace sheeting lumber as needed @ $2/ft, remove chimney to roof level. All quotes include haul away. Am I missing some kinda major difference in what they offer, or is it just a matter of economics? Thanks

3 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoIs Suddenlink still really that bad?
We are about to move to Charleston, WV.. Suddenlink is apparently our only HSI option. I keep reading all these disgruntled posts on message boards. Is it really that bad? I hear it's slow, the customer service sucks etc.. I appreciate any comments. Thanks

1 AnswerOther - US Local Businesses1 decade agoWall off a toilet in the basement?
We just bought an older house, and it has a toilet bowl just sitting there in the basement. The previous owner actually replaced the original one with a brand new unit :) I would like to make use of it, but I would definitely require privacy. Is there a way to wall it off DIY, or would it be something a contractor would be needed for? Thanks
8 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoIs it necessary to take old attic insulation out if it appears to have signs of water damage?
I want to add insulation to the attic of the house we just bought. I think there is some history of a roof leak that's been repaired, and the insulation that's currently there looks pretty beat up. Should I remove the old stuff and completely replace it? Or is it ok to just add onto it? Thanks
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoIs home seller responsible for inaccuracies in seller's disclosure?
Seller's disclosure on a house that I am buying stated that there were no roof leaks. It also stated that "plumbing was working". We looked at the house 4 days after it came on the market. A week later it rained, and the home inspector found a massive roof leak (no way that could have been missed), and now there are water stains on the ceiling of what was supposed to be a completely remodeled house. The inspector also found a leak in the bathroom plumbing. Should the seller be liable for the inaccuracies in the disclosure? They claim that by making an offer and signing the contract I've accepted the "current" house condition. I don't want to get out of the contract since I already spent a lot of money on inspection and different bank fees... do I have any leverage (legal or otherwise)?
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoComcast problems -- any recourse?
We've been having TV/internet problems for weeks... customer service keeps on "scheduling" appointments, but the techs NEVER show up! I am in school, and many classes are online with streaming videos... I need my High Speed! Is there an agency I can complain to to light a fire under their butt?
3 AnswersTelevision1 decade agoWhat is a fair rate to pay a contractor who is working on a foundation?
The foundation is old and they need to install some structural supports. It seems like an involved job, but based on a "labor only quote, I figured it out @over $100/Hr... Does that seem reasonable?

Buying a house, and the home inspection has uncovered some potential issues. It's been a real pain in the butt to get someone to go out and review the inspector's findings. I have posted the report with pictures on profiles.yahoo.com/chuckynjwvu
The projectis very time-sensetive. I need to know if I should even bother buying that house. Thanks

1 AnswerOther - US Dining Out1 decade agoWhat are people thinking about the UN Security council cease fire resolution? And what about the Reutergate?
Regardless of when a cease-fire goes into effect, it would be wise for Israeli policy makers to give serious thought already to the serious policy questions and challenges a cease-fire will present. It can be expected that Lebanon's airspace will be officially off limits to Israeli surveillance. How then will Israel be able to not only monitor Hezbollah activity after the cease-fire but also use this information in diplomatic forums without exposing itself to charges of violating Lebanon's sovereignty? How can Israel effectively exercise its right to self defense if it is attacked from Lebanon when there are third parties present on the ground? How can Israel avoid a situation in which foreign and Lebanese forces become human shields for Hezbollah? And what does Israel do if the Lebanese Army goes even beyond the role of human shield? Should Israel take a sharp "zero tolerance" approach towards violations or instead wait for them to reach a critical mass?

1 AnswerVideo & Online Games1 decade agoMy credit card payment was lost in the mail, so the bank (Chase) jacked the APR from 10% to 29.99%?
I have the record of all the checks that I mail to pay my bills. In addition, I carry a large balance on that card, and I have ALWAYS made the payments (double the minimum payment) on time. I thought i finally had paid it off, but then a bill came for $15; I didn't think much of it and mailed a check for $15. Next thing I know, I received another bill for $15 + late fee + my new APR (29.99% !). I called Chase, and after being given the run around, I was able to get in touch with a "manager", who was able to remove the late fee. They weren't, "unfortunately" able to do anything about the new APR, since "it is controlled by their computers". Is there anybody I can write to or speak to? I've had their card for several years, and NEVER been anywhere close to being late with a payment.
