  • If I hit a street-parked car trying to get in my driveway, who is liable?

The guy across the street insists on parking in the street rather than in his driveway. This means he parks directly across from my driveway. I can't get into driveway because, with the ice and snow, I'll probably hit him. He refuses to move his car, though I've asked him. If I try to park in my driveway and hit his car, who is liable for damages?

  • Hemming zip-cuff blue jeans?

I ordered a pair of zip-cuff blue jeans, and they arrived today. They fit perfect (yay!) throughout, but they're a bit long in the leg. I can wear them with high heels, but not with flats. If they were an inch or so shorter, they'd be more versatile. Is there a way to hem jeans with zipper cuffs? If someone can provide a link with more information, I'd be grateful!

  • Family drama gone too far?

My cousin had a falling out with his parents. He and his mother got into a fight over his choice of girlfriend, and it escalated to a non-speaking situation. While I agree his mother went to far and should have kept her opinion to herself, my cousin has now completely disowned a good portion of his side of the family. We received a wedding invitation today that makes no mention of his parents. His parents and his grandparents are not invited to the wedding because he has completely disowned them.

At this point, I've grown more than a little disgusted over the immaturity of the whole situation. However, I work with both the cousin AND his fiance. I would prefer not to attend this fiasco of a wedding because I have had my absolute fill of family drama. However, if I don't attend, my cousin and his fiance will most likely bring the drama into our workplace. I may choose to ignore their behavior, but ignoring it won't make it go away. I certainly don't want my job in jeopardy because of their behavior.

Would you go to the wedding, or would you claim a prior engagement?

  • How do I deal with my brother in law?

He has been widowed for just about three years. All agree this is very sad, but he refuses to get counseling. Since before my brother's wife passed, my husband and son have not taken a vacation. We finally planned one for this past spring break. When my brother found out, he insisted he was coming, too. He is very rude, attempts to start fights between my husband and me, and likes to teach my son gross words and actions (farting loud at the dinner table, for example). Whenever someone gets mad at him, he gets indignant and says, "Well, my wife died." We told him our vacation was "family only," but he insisted he was family too and kept saying, "What about me?"

So finally, my husband and mother in law lied and told my brother we weren't going on vacation after all just to get him to leave us alone. I didn't agree with this - I thought we should have been more assertive. But now I'm being told I can't tell anyone about my vacation because if my brother finds out, he'll be angry. Am I selfish for wanting to share my memories with friends and wrong for wanting a family vacation?

  • Can my son be taken from me?

My 8 year old races bmx (not the motorcycle kind), plays rough, and spends lots of time being outside. As a consequence, he gets more than a few bumps and bruises. A lunchlady at his school has begun regularly interrogating him about his bruises and has insinuated that we hit our son, which of course we do not. She has gone so far as to take my son to other teachers and the principle to examine him. I've spoke to the principal, who has simply said the school has to "watch out" for the children and little else. How worried should I be? At what point should I speak to a lawyer?

  • How long can a bank consider a bid on a home?

We placed a bid on a bank-owned property ten days ago. We have not, as of yet, received a decision. We suspect the bank, Novastar Mortgage, is holding out for a higher bid. How legal or illegal is this practice?

  • Rototilled over grass?

Hi! I am a gardening newbie. Feeling brave, I rototilled a patch up, then came online to find out the next step. Discovered I should have removed the grass first. Will raking the grass out of the tilled plot help, or am I in big trouble now?

  • How can I find out about a company's sales?

I am interested in quarterly and annual sales for a handful of companies. Is there a website that indexes all companies, or do I go to that business' website?

  • Impossible dog?

We got this dog 8 months ago from the pound. He's a mostly-lab mix (on first look, you'd think he was a purebreed black lab), between 6-8 years old, with a LOT of energy. When we leave the house, he tears up whatever he can find. If I put trash/dog food/obvious risk items out of reach, he "invents" a new thing to wreck. Yesterday, he opened a cupboard and ruined all my baking supplies. Today, he wrecked my purse (which had Benadryl and Ibuprofren in it - don't worry, he didn't eat those). It's always something. We tried to crate him, but first he would escape. When we got a better crate, he began pooping in it. The vet thinks being in the pound for so long overrode his "don't poop in the crate" instincts. We're very much attached to this dumb dog. What would you guys do?? Before you say it, yes, we put him in the basement. He poops down there. I'm out of ideas!!

  • Ohio smoke-free?

Ohio has just passed a law that makes it illegal to smoke in public places. What do you think of this? Is this law another deprivation of personal freedom, or is it really for the greater good? Second hand smoke is harmful to others, but so is my tee-off shot on the front nine. Where do we draw the line at restricting civil liberties for the greater good at the individual's expense?

  • Why such animosity?

Not every Christian is narrowminded, and not every Atheist is immoral. There are plenty of immoral Christians and narrowminded atheists. I will agree that in the past of Christianity, we'll find some ugly moments. However, the Enlightenment turned a blind eye to the institution of slavery. No man, no school of thought, is perfect. So why do we find it necessary to come out here, sling philosophical and spiritual mud, and make fools out of ourselves and eachother? (For those of you ready to point me out as guilty of the same - don't bother, I'm copping to it now.) Hey, I'm just spending my five points to get this rant off my chest. I've spent the last six hours reading Derrida, my head is spinning, and I just wish Atheists and Christians would stop shooting barbs at eachother. Can't we respect each other's beliefs and ideas?

  • What do you DVM's thinkg of Raw Diets?

Any vets out there have an opinion on raw food diets? I have two dogs that are six years old, and they've been on cheapish kibble since we've got them. I've heard a lot about the benefits of raw diets - based on meat, bone, and organs. I'm thinking of giving it a try, but I want to talk to our vet first. Since it's late, I'm wondering if there's any DVMs that hang out on Answers. Thanks!

  • Wedgwood China - Empress C1675?

Does anyone know when this pattern was produced? I can find little to know information about this rare variety of Wedgwood China of which we have a few pieces. It is not the Empress Ruby or Empress Vera Wang - it's Empress C1675, and it's embossed all around with a rosy ribbon and bow pattern. The edges are scalloped, and the plates are altogether quite lovely. Any ideas, folks?

  • Old artsy horror film...?

I saw a movie with friends in highschool. We rented it. It was a seventies-era arty-horror film about a girl who goes to a ballet school in Europe, only to discover that the headmistress is an evil woman. The girl makes friends and enemies, then some of the other girls start disappearing or dying bloody deaths. Some scenes are shot in blue or red light, and there's a scene involving razor wire. Very freaky. Does anyone remember the title of this slick movie? I'd like to buy a copy on Amazon.

  • A Vote-worthy candidate?

    Agree or disagree -

The government is run buy men (and women) entirely out of touch with reality - both Dems and Reps. It does not matter which party you side with - until we elect a person who still knows what it's like to actually live from payday to payday, we'll never have a dependable government.

  • Selfish Guy...?

What would you ladies do? I've been married 8 years. Our child is 5. Since our son was born, I've become the default babysitter while he goes to play ball or golf. If I want to go out, he makes us take our son (which is usually fine). If I ask (heaven forbid) to go out "just the two of us" he either makes his mom babysit for free (my parents are out of town) or refuses - he won't pay a sitter. NOW - when he wants to go and have fun with his friends, it's me that has to watch our little guy for free. Don't get me wrong, I adore my little boy - but a girl just wants to have fun sometimes, right?
