If Christians really followed the Bible and mathematical dating of events...?
why do they still celebrate holidays when they do? It seems like the calendar for Christian holidays such as Christmas would have been changed by now since the calculations that actually put the birth of Jesus sometime in spring. How do Christians justify this to themselves?
And does this leak over to other things? Superstitions and practices that date back prior to Christianity and were incorporated in local cultures, for example?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy does my kitten scratch the wall behind the litterbox when she's done doing her business?
It's getting really annoying, and I can't figure out why she's doing it. I don't think she did it at first (we've only had her a week), but I've been noticing it especially the last few days.
And is there any way to make her stop?
5 AnswersCats1 decade agoDid I really get a deal on windows?
I have five windows (three are doubled, so it makes eight on the contractor's books) and a patio door that need replaced. While I'm happy with the bid I accepted, I'm just wondering how much of a deal it really is. The windows and patio door are all going to be custom made, and the company is licensed, bonded and insured, so I'm hoping it's really worth this: $3684. Is that a good price for that amount of windows and a patio door?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhy is it that so many people believe it when their religion says...?
that it is true and uses something written by human beings as proof? I have yet to understand that. How do you know? How can any human being on this planet know absolutely for sure what is out there? And how in the world can someone "authorize" a religious book if they're a human being, king or no king? It's so confusing to me.
21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo TDY's ever get easier on those left behind?
My husband just left for a four-month training TDY a few hours ago, and I find that I'm worried, upset, panicked and pretty scared by the thought of myself and my young daughter alone with no one to help remember things like when bills are due or appointments are coming up--although, granted, I tend be the one to do that. Add to that the fact that I'm military as well and will have to deal with daycare issues on a crazy schedule. I'm just wandering if I will gradually get used to it as the time goes by, or if I will be highly stressed out for four months. Is it easier as new TDY's come up, too, to part from your spouse when they leave?

do they answer questions directed only at those of other religions, and usually in insulting ways?
28 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoWhy are there so many confrontational people here today?
I think most of the qustions I've read in the last few minutes were demeaning and confrontational towards another religion. Why can't people just leave each other alone? Sheesh! Live and let live? If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all? Didn't any of these people get taught that as kids?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoReligious symbols, positive or negative?
I was reading a book on medieval folklore and mythology earlier, and it stated that the pentacle, the five pointed star, which was originally a symbol from the Mediterranean area, was widely accepted in medieval times as representing the five wounds of Jesus. There are other symbols out there today that have negative connotations attached to them that didn't use to, and I was wondering what people thought about that. I mean, it's not just people putting them to negative uses. I know that Satanic cults use the inverted pentacle, and so now it's cool for anyone with a death-obsession to wear/display them, but Satanic cults also use inverted crosses. Does that make the cross as evil a symbol as the pentacle? What about the swastika? It wasn't always a representation of an evil regime--it has peaceful origins as well. Will we ever go back to these peaceful representations of protection instead of the hateful ways they are viewed now?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoSeams or Hems?
Which do you do first, seaming or heming, when you're making clothes? I can't find the answer anywhere. Am I the only one in the world who doesn't know?
8 AnswersOther - Home & Garden2 decades agoDo cats do better in multi-pet/multi-cat homes?
I have one cat who seems very happy and content, but people have told me she needs other cats around to socialize with. Is that true? Or can cats be happy in one-pet homes?
14 AnswersCats2 decades agoRomans vs. Christians?
Out of curiosity, I was wondering why there are so many out there who believe that the Romans were less religiously tolerant than they were? In history class, we were taught that the Romans allowed any religion to be practiced within their empire as long as individuals weren't making trouble.
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoDoes religion really make a difference when it comes to loving your children and spouse, or raising good kids?
I read that someone thought that those of my religion are too selfish to love their children or spouses, and don't care enough to raise their kids in a loving and attentive manner. I'm just wondering how many people see religion, instead of the character of the parents/spouses, as having anything to do with loving your family and raising your kids to be loving and good.
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoDo you think my questions were attacking?
If anyone thinks that my recent (last ten minutes or so) questions were attacking anyone or any religion, most of you don't have to worry, and I'd like to appologize if they made you think so. I read a response to a parent whose daughter recently became a Wiccan, and it angered me. The questions were targeted more to find out how many people felt the same way as that ignorant person, and I was gratified by most of the very good answers that I got. So I'm sorry if I offended anyone, except maybe that one person. It wasn't my intent.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoWhy should pagans/Wiccans prove that they are religious by publicly flaunting what they do for others?
Isn’t it just as good to do things quietly as long as you are benefiting society/other human beings? Why should you want to splash the name of a religion on it? Is it just to make that religion look better? Is the religious belief of people who do so really so weak that they have to bolster it so publicly with things like that? Shouldn't the cause be the point, not the religion that's sponsoring a charity benefit or something like that?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoWhy do people assume that paganism/Wicca doesn’t offer spiritual worship, guidance...?

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoWhy do people assume that there has to be a living leader of a religion?
I've heard somone say this, and there's also a complaint that many military Wiccans have that we can't get our religious symbol on a headstone when we die through the VA because we don't have religious leaders who can submit the application to add that symbol.
