Can I use Rapeseed oil instead of butter?
Hi,
I want to make a recipe for breakfast bars more healthy. I have heard that you can substitute oil for butter, but I just wanted to check if Rapeseed oil would be okay to use in place of butter? Or even if I used half the butter amount and substitute the remaining half with oil. Would that work? The recipe is below. Thanks so much!
100g butter
3 tbsp golden syrup
85g demerara sugar
140g porridge oats
½ tsp ground cinnamon
50g desiccated coconut
2 tbsp linseeds , slightly crushed
1 tbsp sesame seeds
100g chopped hazelnuts
Heat oven to 160C/fan 140C/gas 3. Butter a 22cm square baking tin. Melt the butter, syrup and sugar in a pan. Pour in the oats, cinnamon, coconut, seeds and nuts, mix and pour into tin. Bake for 30-35 mins. Leave to cool for 5 mins, then cut into slices. Will keep for 1 week in an airtight container.
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes8 years agoAm I supposed to reference in an exam essay question?
Hi,
I am sitting my exams tomorrow and was just wondering if anyone knows if I am supposed to reference? For example, if I was to make claim to a theory should I then reference the author of the book in which I read it, and the year of the book? For example (Meyer, 2001). My University uses the Harvard referencing system.
During my exams last year I did this, but I was just wondering if it is necessary.
Thanks for your help!
6 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoIs the world just full of users?
I have lost all faith in humanity. I started hanging out with this girl who turned up on a saturday night at a pub on only our third outing with £2, expecting me to buy her drinks all night. I wouldn't have minded but i went to her place a few weeks ago and bought her a bottle of vodka. Anyway i told her what i thought of her and that i won't be used like that again as it's happened to me before. I'm just so angry. Is everyone like this and out for all they can get? I always pay my own way and would never dream of going for a night out if i had no money. I take it that most people are just hateful human beings? Or have i just been unlucky? The thing is i also have M.S and subsequently have very little money, so why would she be like this?
5 AnswersOther - Society & Culture10 years agoDoes adding coffee to chocolate cake make it more moist?
I'm sure i read a tip somewhere that adding coffee granules to a chocolate cake mixture makes it more moist, but i can't find the tip again! So am i correct in thinking this? And would i add granules or granules dissolved in water? Thanks. I have included the recipe i am using below.
175g Self raising flour
2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 Tsp Bicarbonate soda
150g Caster sugar
2 Eggs Beaten
150 ml (1/4 pint) Sunflower oil
150 ml (1/4 pint) Semi skimmed milk
2 Tbsp Golden syrup
For the Coating and filling
75g Unsalted butter
175g Icing Sugar
3 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
Drop of Milk
Method
Pre-heat oven to 180ºC/350F/Gas Mark 4. Grease and line two 18cm (7 inch) sandwich tins.
Sieve the flour, cocoa and Bicarbonate of Soda into a bowl. Add the sugar and mix well.
Make a well in the centre and add the syrup, eggs, oil and milk. Beat well with electric whisk until smooth.
Spoon the mixture into the two tins and bake for 25 - 30 minutes until risen and firm to the touch. Remove from oven, leave to cool before turning out onto a cooling rack.
To make your butter icing, place the butter in a bowl and beat until soft. Gradually sift and beat in the icing sugar and cocoa powder then add enough milk to make the icing fluffy and spreadable.
If the cake has risen a little to high then use a serrated knife to even off the top, now sandwich the two cakes together with the butter icing and cover the sides and the top of the cake with more butter icing.

I am going to make raisin oat cookies but the recipe calls for a lot of unsalted butter. Is there anything else i can use to make it lower in fat besides oil and peanut butter?
3 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoAlter a recipe for toffee cake?
I don't have any pecans and the recipe calls for them. So i'm wondering could i just leave them out? Here is the recipe and thanks:
300g pecans halves
140g stoned dates
200g butter , softened, plus extra for greasing
200g light muscovado sugar
1 tsp mixed spice
4 eggs , beaten
140g self-raising flour
1. Tip 100g pecans into a processor and whizz until fine, then tip into a bowl. Put the dates into a small pan with enough water to cover, boil for 5 mins until very soft. Drain, discarding the liquid, then whizz in the processor until smooth. Leave to cool.
2. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Butter and line the base of a 23cm cake tin. Beat the butter, sugar and spice together until lighter and creamy, then tip in the dates, ground pecans, eggs and a pinch of salt and beat briefly until smooth.
3. Fold in the flour with a metal spoon, then spoon into the tin and level the top. Sprinkle the remaining nuts over the top (don't press them in), then bake for 40 mins or until risen and golden and a skewer comes out clean. Serve warm, with generous drizzles of maple syrup and scoops of Maple crunch ice cream (see 'goes well with').

2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoQuestion about refurbished netbooks?
I have looked all over the internet and seemingly can't find an answer to what would appear to be a straight forward enough question. What i want to know is does a refurbished netbook (notebook) come with the likes of windows office preinstalled? I had a look on the PC World website and they offer the samsung n150 plus for £230 new or £210 refurbished? Now if a refurd didn't come with any extras what would be the incentive to get one, as, for example warranty is superior with a new netbook. Thanks.
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoWhy did my christmas cake crumble away to nothing when i tried to eat it?
I made a christmas cake this year a couple of months in advance. I kept 'feeding' it ie with brandy etc, and when i tried to eat it crumbled away to nothing. I couldn't actually pick up a slice to, had to use a fork. What went wrong? Thanks in advance.
