Which bird is making this crazy noise?
I'm in the suburbs not far from a wood, and recently in the very early morning I've been hearing a bird call outside, louder and longer than the usual rabble. It's like nothing I've ever heard before, a sort of warbling trill that goes through ALL the pitches and then ends like some kind of mad car alarm. It sounds insane. What is it, anybody have any clues? I looked up some bird calls for common British birds on youtube but I couldn't find anything like it. Are there any birds around England that have particularly unusual songs?
2 AnswersZoology7 years agoIs the Costa Del Sol friendly?
I haven't been on a sun and sea holiday since I was 12 and was made to go with my parents. All my holidays since then have been city breaks, touring castles, architecture, ruins and art galleries. Basically getting up at 8 and spending the day on my feet.
Next year I actually want a break. I want to lounge by a pool, eat in a nice restaurant and drink cocktails by the sea. But as I haven't been on one of these holidays in SO long, I really don't know what to expect. Folks have recommended Costa Del Sol to me due to it's extensive beaches, English-friendly bars, and family run hotels. But I'm concerned that the night life will be too rowdy (loads of teens on lad's holidays or hen parties, etc). I love a drink as much as the next person but I do want to unwind. And are the locals friendly? I know enough Spanish to make myself understood so I'm not worried about the language barrier, but are they a nice people in general? Any body been recently?
6 AnswersOther - Spain8 years agoLivecolor xxl 'rockin blacks' hair dye - how dark?
I've been looking at the black/purple one. Has anyone tried it, and if they have or know someone who has - just how purple is it? I don't want just black hair, and it looks quite purpley on the box (but they never come out exactly as they look on the box). I just want to know if you can really see the purple :)
2 AnswersHair8 years agoWhat's wrong with my foot?
My right foot has been in pain for about 6 or 7 weeks. At first I thought I must have just pulled something or leaned on it funny, and that it would get better if I just left it. But it isn't going away; if anything it's getting worse.
The pain is on the top of my foot on the right side (right foot) near the ankle. It doesn't hurt to walk on, but I can't put pressure on it (say if I cross my legs so my ankle is resting on the ground), can't lean on it, and if I turn/bend my foot it is agony. Lately it's been looking swollen and puffy (I just got back from holiday and I don't think all the walking did it any good). If I flex my foot to the right the pain extends down the top of my foot. Have I damaged any particular muscle, ligament or tendon? I'm booking an appointment next week, but I'd like to have a head's up before.
2 AnswersInjuries8 years agoThe realities of an 'apocalypse'?
This is for a post-apocalyptic short story, and I'd like it to be realistic - insofar as a fictional story will allow. What I'd like to know, if you have any speculation, information or other sources on it, is:
1. How many people would have to die in order for the electricity to go out? I'm speaking generally of the more populated first world countries here.
2. Likewise, the water systems or the gas systems.
3. Likewise, TV stations or main radio broadcasts
4. Likewise, trains and planes :)
For story to work, these things have to generally be either gone or very unreliable. I'd also like to know if it is possible to send your own radio or television broadcast and how, and what emergency contact systems are in place between countries should general means be unavailable.
Any info welcome.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoCan I change my sign-in date if I'm away on the day?
My boyfriends booked a short break away at the end of October as a treat because I can't afford a holiday myself. I hope to not still be claiming JSA by then as I have a work trial coming up soon. But just in case it doesn't work out, what do I need to do in terms of signing in if I'm away for the usual day I sign on? Friday is the day I usually sign on and it's also the day I get back, but I don't think it'll be til late in the evening. Would I be able to move it to the Monday without any affects to my benefit? (I understand I would be paid a little late, I don't mind that, so long as it doesn't get stopped). Is there a form to fill in or do I just need to tell my adviser?
P.S, I have not had a sick day or had to change anything before.
2 AnswersOther - Politics & Government8 years agoHow to manage my repressed anger?
I had a few hard times at school. It wasn't physical bullying but there were always tensions and upsets between girls - jealousy, cat-fights, mean tricks, gossiping. I'm sure you know what I mean. But I never spoke up or yelled or told anybody my thoughts. I was quite shy and I hated confrontation. I didn't tell my parents either. It just went on and I put up with it, even though it hurt when it was me in the middle of it.
Later, in my late teens, I was in an abusive relationship. I stood up for myself/fought back, but I never told anybody. I remained in his 'control' for some months. The anger that comes with that sort of humiliation is obvious. I was also dealing with a bi-polar mother at home who made me feel like crap and I could never, ever argue back because not only did she refuse to see reason, she would punish me. Nobody I knew could really help me and I didn't like talking about it, as always.
Anyway, I'm now 26. Life has gone uphill considerably and I am now free of any abusers or people who would take advantage of me, I've changed my mind set and I'm much more assertive.
But here's my issue: I have these horrible moments of rage. I now tell people when I'm mad, I do. I explain my feelings and I expect an apology, like a normal person. But the anger I feel is sometimes disproportionate to what has happened, and I have to blank it out and pretend it isn't all there. Also, when people have done something really bad I feel like I really, really want to hurt them physically. I have lashed out on a couple of occasions - nothing really violent, but more than I wanted to do. After seeing it in both verbal and physical form I have nothing but distaste for that kind of display. So why do I feel compelled to do it?
Is this normal? I know a cycle of being treated with anger can imbue a person with anger; that's psychology 101 - but can I not change this or avoid it? Also, at night, I sometimes dream I hurt people. I don't kill them or anything, but I definitely hurt them; I feel almost feral. How do I get a handle on this repressed rage? I don't want it to brim over and make me into a different person.
2 AnswersPsychology8 years agoWhy are Prince Edward's children only Viscount and Lady?
Prince Charles and Prince Andrew's kids are princes and princesses. I know Princess Anne's kids are not because although she's a princess she married a non-royal. But Prince Edward is still a prince, and I thought a prince's kids would always be princes and princesses? Or am I missing something - can there only be so many? Or is it that his wife was not 'high born' enough (I thought this only mattered on the female/princess side of things).
9 AnswersRoyalty8 years agoThe best kind of corset for a larger bust?
Hi, I'm a long-time wearer of steel boned corsets, but I've always bought underbust ones. My bra size is a FF cup, and I've found that wearing an overbust either doesn't give enough coverage (nip slips!) or makes my boobs form an uncomfortable shelf, rather than plumping and supporting them. Worse still, there have been overbusts I've worn that have simply crushed and flattened me, and made my chest actually look smaller and less full than it is. They just haven't been flattering.
This makes me sad because looking online at pictures of the corsets I want to buy, they're always worn by smaller-bosemed ladies, who show off a show stopping cleavage, well supported and plump, and all in the right place without any...er...overflow.
How do I achieve this in an overbust...or should larger bust sizes just stick to wearing underbusts and not bother?
P.S, I buy good quality steel boned corsets always, but I don't have the money for the very expensive made to order ones (in the region of £100, 200, 300+) so I'm afraid suggesting going in personally to get my bust measured for a special corset is not an option at the moment. Any other tips are welcome though.
1 AnswerFashion & Accessories8 years agoDemons, evil spirits and alternate dimensions?
Doing some research on demons for a short story. Ultimately, the demons I'm portraying have nothing to do with religion, but more to do with 'evil' or 'malevolent' beings or spirits from another universe/dimension/whatever. They have come through and cannot exist physically in our plane, so they 'possess' people in order to control them at certain times.
So. What I'm asking for is any links, info or sources on demons that people have written and compiled about non-religious demons or malevolent creatures from different planes. I will be going by imagination mostly, but I'd like to do a little more reading on the subject matter :)
4 AnswersMythology & Folklore8 years agoHot flushes recently?
For the last year or so I've developed an intolerance to heat. I've never particularly liked the hot weather but I've usually been more prone to being cold than warm, so this is definitely a change. I can't take a hot shower anymore, it makes me feel uncomfortable and dizzy, and in this humid weather lately I've been feeling as sick as a dog. I'm too warm at night and when I've eaten a meal I sweat :/ I no longer exercise as much as I used to because my face gets uncomfortably warm and whilst I don't mind sweating when actually working out, it takes an awfully long time to cool down afterwards and I often feel quite faint. Blow drying my hair or just the hassle of getting ready and dressed or cooking will make my hear pound and my head swim. When in clubs I notice I sweat much more than I used to if it's warm, and while sometimes my friends will be overly warm as well they never seem as bothered by it as I am. It makes me extremely uncomfortable; I often have to go and stand outside just for a breather.
I'm 26, so it's not menopause. But could it be other hormonal imbalances/changes? Or something else? It's really bothering me. If it is simply 'heat intolerance', what causes it and can I make it less aggravating? It's horrible getting so hot and bothered just eating my dinner.
2 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks8 years agoWhy are ants in my bathroom?
Ants have managed to get into our kitchen this summer and we're in the process of ousting them, which is hard because they only show up in one's and two's and leave no trail, so we don't know where exactly they're coming from.
But today I noticed there were about 6 or 7 of them in my bathroom, just running around on the floor. I get why there might be ants in the kitchen, there's plenty of food there and a window which is often open. But my bathroom just has the usual bath stuff in it and some shoes that I keep there for storage. Why would there be so many ants in there? It's messy (organisation-wise), but clean (sanitary-wise), no food for them in there or anything like that, and no means of escape.
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoMental health care - free in the UK?
Is mental health care (specifically counselling, talk-therapy and psychoanalyzing) free in the UK? The last time I took sessions of therapy I was not working and therefore all of my treatment was free anyway; will this still be the case if I am working? I'm not including medication or hospital trips, just the counselling (as referred by GP)
5 AnswersMental Health8 years agoIs the money in my account secure only to me?
If money has been paid into my account, (even if it's in the 'waiting period', e.g, it 'goes in' friday but the balance can only be accessed by wednesday) can the people/organisation who have paid it to me take it back out if they change their mind, or is this against the law?

1 AnswerOther - Business & Finance8 years agoAre my breasts hurting me?
I have this pain, it's like an unpleasant ache, in my top ribs beneath where my boobs rest. Doctors couldn't find anything in there that was worrying, they assumed it was muscular strain or that I'd bashed myself and not realised it. But it's not gotten any better. In fact, the bigger my breasts get the worse the pain is, so I'm wondering, are my breasts kinda crushing the top of my torso with their weight? I'm currently a G cup; these things are pretty damned heavy o.O
If this is so, is there anything I can do to prevent this? Sometimes the pain is unbearable, especially when I lie down at night and take the weight off, then I really feel it. I'm wearing the right bras, I made sure of it.
3 AnswersPain & Pain Management8 years agoLow calorie/sugar free sodas - are they ok?
I'm going back on a diet. Since my illness I haven't been able to exercise properly, so I'm moderating my calorie intake instead. I know the ins and outs of weightloss and maintenance, so I don't need any info on food. What I would like to know is how bad low calorie/sugar free sodas are for you? I'm obviously cutting out the full sugar versions, but if they don't have any sugar or added sweetners are the diet ones okay in moderation? Note, moderation. Not all the time. I have upped my intake of water, but sometimes a 7up is nice with your evening meal, or a cold diet coke is good straight from the fridge - I basically don't want to deny myself every single thing I enjoy, and I don't want to lose weight too fast either. I'm not going for stones here, just want to slim down.
5 AnswersDiet & Fitness8 years agoCheap flights to Spain from UK?
Wondered if anybody had any information or experience, save me trawling through the internet on a thousand different compare websites. Basically, I want to fly to Spain (anywhere, so long as it's warm and cheap) from the England (any airport but would prefer midlands/london). As cheaply as possible! Would it be cheaper to book the hotel with the flight or to do it separately? I'm on a budget but haven't been on holiday in years; I just want to go somewhere relatively hot that is not England XD
6 AnswersAir Travel8 years agoIs it time to start wearing night cream?
I'm 26 and my skin is generally fine, no wrinkles or sagging. I'm prone to spots sometimes (usually around time of period etc) because I have an oily t-zone. But is it better to start using a night repair/anti wrinkle cream before any age-damage appears, or should I wait til I start seeing the signs? Are there any specific brands people would recommend? Bear in mind I am in the UK and on a budget.
3 AnswersOther - Skin & Body8 years agoContinual cough and recurring sore throat?
I have had a dry unpleasant cough for four months. It's always there, though the severity of it lessens and worsens throughout the week.It sounds very 'deep' when its at its worst. I don't tend to bring anything up, but it is persistent, especially at night. I also have a recurring sore throat. I don't know if this is due to the cough or if it's something else, but it also comes and goes in severity. At it's ebb it is just an annoyance and I hardly notice it, but at it's peak it is very painful - my glands feel swollen and sore and it hurts to swallow, as if my throat has swollen too much. The outside of my throat is tender to touch. My doctor peered down my throat with a light a couple of months ago when I first went but didn't say anything, so I don't know if anything has turned up since then. I never lose my voice but I do get bad acid reflux sometimes.
Anybody have idea what this is? I won't be going back to the doctor til next tuesday.
