    Why is Microsoft OneDrive crashing?

The program was formerly named "Skydrive" but for whatever reason, Microsoft changed the name to "OneDrive" in the last set of updates (June 2014). It also started to crash repeatedly, with the dialog in the picture popping up about every hour after that. I'm guessing Microsoft broke it in the last set of updates.

If it wasn't for this pop-up, I wouldn't care too much, because I don't use it, but the pop-ups are a bit of a pain. Is this happening to anyone else? and does anyone know of a solution?

  • How do I convince Yahoo that I'm in Toronto?

Yahoo keeps showing my location as Kitchener, and shows all the local news and weather about Kitchener. Now, I'm sure Kitchener's a great city, but since I'm in Toronto, I'm not much interested about the local news, weather or local businesses there.

My ISP's head office is in Kitchener, and thir ARIN whois entry lists that as their address for their IP addresses. They serve several cities but that's likely why Yahoo keeps showing my location as Kitchener, and all the localized news, weather, and everything else is for Kitchener.

I've already set my default location as Toronto, but Yahoo just ignores that. I'm not really sure what else I can do, short of switching ISPs for somebody that has their offices in Toronto.

    Any ideas?

  • What is theory behind the lubricating strips on disposable razors?

The question occurred to me as I was shaving this morning, and it's been bugging me ever since. The "lubricating strip" on the razors is placed above the blade(s) -- opposite the handle.

However, when you shave, you have to draw the razor towards the handle. That's the only direction that works, because the blades are oriented that way. However, that means that the razor only lays down a lubricating layer of slime AFTER the blades have passed over, so it's not lubricating the shave. I just can't see what the point of them is.

  • Who regulates collections agencies in Canada?

I've been getting these calls lately looking for someone named "Thomas Chiu," by a woman named "Monica." I've told her repeatedly that there's no one named "Thomas" and I'm not related to anyone anyone by that name. It's suspicious because the originating number is an 866 (toll free) number.

    866-461-8059

A bit of hunting shows this number is used by CorDon, a collections agency in Toronto. Since I don't have any debts, and I'm not even the person they're looking for, I don't think they should keep calling me. Who do I need to complain to?

  • Can you compile DX9 compatible programs with DX11 SDK?

Can you compile a program using the DirectX11 SDK that will run on a system with only the DirectX9 runtime? Assuming that you stick to only the functions that are present in the DirectX9 SDK or earlier, that is.

I'd like to generate a version of the executable that will run under XP, but I don't want to juggle multiple versions of the SDK (and probably multi-boot to avoid conflicts) if I can avoid it.

  • How to preserve thermal paper hard copies?

A lot of receipts are printed on thermal paper these days. I know it's possible to photocopy or scan the originals on day one, however, there are situations where the original is required years after it was printed. The trouble is that the thermal paper commonly used for receipts goes black after about a year or two.

Is there any way to slow that down or perhaps prevent it?

  • Ruger Mark II -- What's the secret to taking it apart?

I find the manual a bit terse. The instructional videos online make it look incredibly easy, but I must be missing something, as I can't get it apart.

I've gotten through these parts ok:

    1. remove magazine and check chamber is empty.

    2. relieve tension on mainspring by pulling trigger.

    3. Using a paper clip, swing out metal "tongue" from back of grip.

That's as far as I got. The instruction videos show the next part as swinging out an assembly from the back of the grip. It looks like the person did this with just two fingers relatively easily, but I'm obviously missing something, as it's incredibly tight. No way I'm getting that out with just two fingers and little force -- at least not the way it is now.

I've got to be missing something, so what did I do wrong here?

  • What's the difference between the Motorola KRZR K1 and the KRZR K1 ELITE?

I've seen Ebay ads and phone stores describe some it as "KRZR K1 Elite." They often make a big deal about it being the "Elite Edition," however, there's never any mention of what makes it so 'elite.'

  • Can a Sony Ericson W610i cell phone use a 4GB or larger memory card?

The official specs say the largest memory card supported is 2GB. However, the official specs don't always conform with what the actual hardware can do, so I was wondering if that's a hard limit or if anyone's managed to use something bigger in a w610i phone.

  • Is there a GSM KRZR phone equivalent to the K1M?

The KRZR K1M is similar to the original K1, but it's upgraded to have a series of touch buttons on the clamshell to work the MP3 player when it's closed up. Unfortunately, I've found out that the K1M is CMDA only, which is very weird, because new versions of phones usually come out in GSM versions first. Anyone know if there's a GSM version of the KRZR equivalent to the K1M, and what it's model number is?

So far, I've only found reference to the original KRZR K1 (GSM), K1C (CDMA version of the K1), and the K1M (Upgraded CDMA version).
