  • Chopped bay leaves vs. whole bay leaves...?

All the recipes that I have seen that include bay leaves require the whole leaves but I recently bought a spice rack that comes with chopped bay leaves. Is it bad to use the diced version? I know that people usually remove the leaves so will this be extra strong if people eat the pieces? Also whats the ratio? How many teaspoons or tablespoons equal one bay leaf?

  • What are the best shoes for waitressing?

Today will be my third day of being a banquet server. It's more walking than what a waitress would do because I don't stop to take orders or stop to wait for food. I'm just back and forth serving drinks and cleaning up tables non stop. What are the best shoes or the best shoe inserts? By the middle of my shift my feet hurt so bad that they start to itch. I'm assuming buying a half size bigger will help a lot to make room for my feet swelling.

  • I have a long chain of crochet chains, where do I go from here?

I started crocheting yesterday and made a long line of chains. I want to make a blanket out of just plain, simple chains. How can I do that. Do I make the chain as long as how wide or long I want the blanket to be. And where do I go from there? Do I have to seal the end? How do I connect the new chain to the previous one?

  • My antique sewing machines bobbin wont thread. What could i be doing wrong?

Today my mom bought me an antique sewing machine. I'd say its from the 50s or so. I believe its a Mercury. On the very top it says Precision De Luxe and the front has a little silver plaque that says Sew Mor. Well I took the bobbin out of its little place under the needle and put it in its other place where it goes to be threaded. I snapped down the little thing to hold it in place and I press the pedal so it will thread. Problem is it doesn't thread. The needle goes up and down but the bobbin doesn't move. Is it broken or am I just missing a step? Theres a lever that control whether the feet are up or down. Does it matter if they're up or down? There is also another lever but I'm not sure what it does. It's currently all the way up in a blank area but if i lower it, it will be next to some numbers. On the left side of the lever there are the numbers 30, 15, 10, and 7. On the right there are the number 20, 12, 8, and 6. Does it matter where that lever is. Also on the base of the sewing machine theres a knob that can be set to different parts of the base of the knob. The base of the knob says down, 1, 2, 3 and up. I think its stuck though and can only go to down and 1, it won't go any further. I also notice that at the end of the little rod where you put the bobbin to thread it theres a little wheel. It looks like there should be a band there to connect it to the large wheel that controls the needle. I tried putting a hair tie there to see if it would work and the bobbin jiggled a bit so I un did the lever that holds it in place to turn the bobbin but it fell. I picked it up, wound it back up and put it back on. When I pushed the pedal again to see if it would thread it didn't do anything. Could it be that the hair tie is too thick? Would a thin rubber band do the trick? I've never used a sewing machine before so I honestly don't know. I only know how to sew by hand. We bought the machine at an antique store and it was on clearance from $200 to $20. We couldn't pass it up so we bought it. Even if it doesn't work its nice to have and pretty to look at. It was only $20 dollars so not a big loss. The actual sewing part appears to work so I threaded the bobbin by hand and am about to attempt to thread the machine to start sewing.

  • Poll: What is your favorite flower?

I want to start sketching some flower bouquets but don't know of enough flowers. You don't have to necessarily name your favorite flower but list a bunch of flowers that you like or that just come to mind. Thanks so much.

  • Calling all dentists or dental technicians. There seems to be a hole in my tooth but its not a cavity.?

The tooth in question is in the lower jaw, its the right tooth from my point of view of the two front teeth. There is a space or a hole or something in between the tooth and the gumline. Its on the inside of the mouth. I can't see it either so I'm just going by touch here. I have long nails and my nail can kinda poke in. Its not a cavity because its not tender or painul and I really couldn't guess what it is. It hasn't given me any problems and I've had it for years so I don't really want to spend money on a dentist I just wanna know what it is.

  • Whats the deal with sinks with two faucets? ?

I've recently seen two movies where they show a sink with two faucets. One on each end of the basin. I'd never seen such a thing. Is one hot and one cold or what? Isn't that a little inconvenient if you want warm?

  • What do you thinnk of Petland?

I go to Petland often and I think they are so great. All the animals are in good health and they seem to take great care of them. I am wanting to apply there and I thought of looking to see what people thought of them. I looked at past questions here on YA and it seems like a lot of people are ant-petland. What do you think about them?

  • Indian kohl eyeliner?

A friend of mine recently came back from a month stay in Morocco and she brought me back some eyeliner. Its in powder form in a glass bottle. The box the vial came in is yellow and has a drawing of an eye in a yellow circle. The box says Surma Al-Sherifan and theres a paper inside that says its good for eye ailments as well as makeup. It came with a small wooden container that you put the powder in with water, shake it then use a thin wooden applyer to put it on your eyes. My concern is, is it safe? I don't normally wear my eyeliner on the inside part of my eyelid like some women do. I strictly put it on my top eyelid where eye shadow goes and on my bottom lid where the bottom lashes are. I never let it touch the top border of my eyelid above the bottom lashes like some women do. Has anyone here ever used it? Do you recommend that I use it? What are the concerns of lead content?
