  • Opinions on Kat Slater (played by Jessie Walice), Eastenders?

So someone got touchy because I said I didn't like the character.

I said she should stop using the fact she was abused and that she was a slutty scrubber.

The reason I say this is I can empathise with the character being abused -- I was abused for several years as a child. But, there comes a time when you need to get help an stop hurting those who love you -- IE. Cheating on Alfie.

I know it's not real I just wondered about your opinions.

  • is it OK to light a rusty candle (tealight)?

I have an old tealight candle that I have lit and a little rust has gathered near the flame and pooled in the melted wax.

I was worried that it dangerous to inhale the rust if it heats up?

Sounds silly but I'm overly paranoid about these things.

    Thank you :)

  • have barrett, the confectionary company, closed down (flumps)?

So, I bought a Flump Marshmallow Today -- the 'Twirly' two-tone sweets.

It used to be the barrett brand but it has now changed to Candy Land?

I thought maybe the sold the Flump Rights or closed down.

All the packaging has changed too.

Thank you for any clarification :) x

  • What does a Nurse Assistant do UK?

I've just got a job as a nurse assistant with the NHS on an Adult Vascular and Orthapedic Ward.

    - Will I take blood?

    - Give Medication?

    - I've been told I'll do ECGs, transport patients from wards/sugery, etc.

I'm hoping that the NHS will sponsor me to become a full Registered Nurse (RN).

    Thank you x

  • I don't want my daughter to play with dolls, is this completely illogical?

So, I had an arguement with my mum about my parenting -- she thinks it's wrong to deprive my daughter of dolls and I'm deluded. She was never a good parent so I'd like a point of view from other people :)

"What will she play with!?" is her answer.

    My answer:

Educational games, hulla hoops, crafts (painting, pottery, sewing, etc), days out to keep them occupied, dress-up (not just princess), role play, etc.

-- I think she will get plenty of doll time at school and at other friends houses to get life skills from without having it pushed down her throat.

The thing is, I feel that by giving her dolls I am pushing a gender role on her and she might think I have these expectations of her to become a parent, be a mum, clean. Like, how can you give a five year old child a doll and not be suprised if she get's pregnant young -- the dolls young may give the impression you condone someone young having a child. Not that I have a problem bit I don't want that for my daughter. The dolls are so life-like too.

Personally, I want my children - boy or girl - to explore every aspect of their being instead of conditioning them to take on these 'socially accepted' roles. I am obviously still going to teach them the life skills they need (e.g. Hygiene, being tidy, etc.) as I MIGHT get toys such as a kitchen but for ALL of the children, not just the girls.

I thought of this when I worked at a Nursery and I would notice the male and female children take on the 'typical' gender roles. I remember at the age playing with dolls with my female friends and I couldn't wait to have kids; some of us even wanted to be single mums to "do it our way" because the boys never played dolls with us.

    Anyway...

    - Is this completely wrong to think?

    - Can anyone see where I'm coming from?

I personally don't think it would cause significant damage to our children. Maybe my own experience has made me think it.

  • Would a boy called Ira get bullied?

    It'll be Ira Anthony Parker

    (pronounced EYE-RAH)

I wanted something that not too common and this has a nice meaning - chosen one, watchman and warrier (sounds masculine).

What sort of taunts might he get if yes?

I'm just trying to weigh it up. It's unisex but I've looked at statistics and it's rare but when used, it's been for a boy.

I've been told that the A in Ira and Anthony run into eachother but the way I pronounce it, it's a OK. I suppose it depends on accents :)

It's also been said to sound girly, which again is dependent on culture I suppose.

Names are such a huge commitment, so I want to make the right decision. I guess there will always be someone who doesn't like it, I just don't want that someone to be my child :-)

  • What do you think of the name Ira?

It's a unisex name but in this case the name will be for a boy; it roughly means chosen one in the biblical sense as well as warrior and watchman :)

Full name will be Ira Anthony Parker. I thought it sounded nice and it's not too common.

    What do you think? x

  • Can you answer these? Discrimination?

    Example:

The admissions tutor for an independent school interviews an applicant who has cerebral palsy which makes her speech unclear. The tutor assumes that the applicant also has learning difficulties and refuses to admit her as he thinks she will be unable to cope with the highly academic environment of the school. This is likely to be unlawful discrimination arising from disability.

    1. HOW is this discrimination and what TYPE of discrimination?

    2. How could this make the person feel?

    3. What strategy, or steps, could be put in place to help the individual?

    4. What should have been done?

    Thank you so much!! :)

  • Should I feel this guilty? :-/?

I ordered a take-away and it was about 45 minutes so I rang to ask where it was - he said on it's way. Took about an hour in total.

When it got here it totaled at £8.20 but they charged £10. He said minimum orders are £10. They didn't tell us on the phone so my boyfriend rang and had a go at them because they hadn't told us before-hand. He said he wasn't going to order again even though they said they would give us the difference next time (they usually forget to)

He said no too late and said the food doesn't look that great anyway and he was going to put this on facebook; he didn't actually do this.

He then put the phone down. The food was actually quite nice.

My BF said it was the principle that they didn't tell us on the phone. It was written on the menu but they usually only cost £8 minimun so we asumed.

Was this unreasonable of him? I feel soooo guilty for it, I contemplate apologising. I just feel bad. Would you have done the same?

Sorry to bang on. Thank you for your answers xx

  • I want to Study Nursing AND Midwifery... How?

So, I want to be a Nurse with all of the knowledge and qualifications of a midwife too.

How would I do that? Do Nursing and then an extension to midwifery or the other way round?

Or would I do two separate degrees? If I'm to do two separate degrees - which would I do first then second?

Is there a degree that does both?

Thank you for any information :)

    Employer Address

    Dear Employer,

My name is... I am writing with interest to ask you to accept my enthusiastic application for your job advertised on … for the position of…

I am currently a student at the City of Bristol College in my third year studying Health and Social Care; I am an aspiring Paediatric (children’s) Nurse. Given the nature of my chosen career, I am naturally a friendly, warm and compassionate person. The responsibilities I have as a student have helped me to gain very good time-keeping and organisational skills; I am also very motivated, willing to learn new skills and experience new things. In my three years of studying I have done a combination of theory and practical work – this involves coursework and placements (work experience). I have done work experience with both adults and children in a variety of setting, including care homes and nursery, which has given me very good communication skills, confidence and an insight into working with a diverse range of people. I believe I have gained transferable skills from working with these people which I can apply to your position.

I feel as though I am a good candidate to match the skills you require to fulfil this position. I appreciate the time you have taken to read my cover letter. My CV may also be attached. I hope to hear from you soon as I would like to come along for an interview.

    Respectfully yours,

  • What does level of accountability mean when administering medicine?

I'm doing a medication essay and it says:

"Compare the responsibilities and the level of accountability assigned to individuals involved in the administration of medicines"

I'm just wondering what it means? - Is it how accountable - responsible - you are held for your actions (e.g. if something goes wrong)?

So when comparing would I just say what level of responsibilities there are compared to how accountable you are for them? You could have more responsibilities than you are held accountable for - visa;versa?

    Am I completely off? :-/
