  • Brewing coffee (starbucks) at home?

I am a newbie at brewing coffee. My boss gave me a used coffee machine (cuisinart) but it looked like it was in great condition. and I thought I should do this the right way. I bought starbucks pike roast beans, bought a special air tight container, bought a grinder. I use 2 tbsp for 12oz of water put in the machine, @10oz comes out. The coffee is VERY weak tasting (and looking) BUT it "feels" strong. I can feel the affects. 2 heaping tbsp gave me heart palpations while giving drinking the weak tasting coffee. So is it the fault of starbucks beans or my coffee machine or any ideas? Recommendations?

  • W4, 1 or 2?

So I just started a new job, the HR manager was incredibly unhelpful and she said "it does not matter put whatever" (geez what company did I get into?). At my previous job 6 years ago, the HR person was way more helpful and said "this number the gov't takes out more and you get a bigger refund, this number they take out less and you owe". But I forget what she said. I DO NOT want to owe, but want more money in my pay check so I'm pretty sure that puts me at a 1 or 2? I'm single, no kids, no house.

  • 10 year old cat missing front teeth, normal?

my 10 year old cat (at least 10 years old, adopted when adult) has been losing her small front teeth throughout the years. She's down to only one on the top and one on the bottom. My vet says she looks like shes from West Virginia:) But he also says it's normal and her mouth looks healthy and the small front teeth are almost useless anyway. It's hard to believe a healthy kitty mouth loses teeth. She has all of her fangs and back teeth. Is my vet right?

  • cat food expiration date?

I have four cats so I try to feed them the best food for the best price (difficult). Right now they are on annamaet. A friend who takes care of ferals had donated to her a very good brand of grain free dry cat food that will expire in a few months! Grain free food going to ferals seems like a sin to me. We were offered the food (for the exchange of a few bags of meow mix) and I would mix it in with my cats origional kibble so they don't get sick but any opinions on the expiration part?

  • Mouth rinse for dogs?

Ok so I was out with my dog in a park hiking and the disgusting beast came across human feces and started eating it! I told him his command and he stopped but he still got a good amount or a good enough amount for me to be completely grossed out. I've seen this dog eat many types of feces but human for some reason is the most gross. When I got him home I made a spray bottle of apple cider vinegar and water and sprayed his mouth with it. Then (I was really grossed out and desperate) I made a spray bottle of Listeriene and water and sprayed his mouth with that. Then I brushed his teeth like I normally do. I felt like just brushing his teeth alone would not clean his whole mouth. The next day he yawned in my face and he had no doggy breath!

So I thought maybe I could do this rinse thing on a regular basis or when there is an emergency like this one? Maybe not with Listeriene but with apple cider vinegar or white vinegar? I saw there is a mouth rinse made by virbac. Does anyone have any experience with this product?

  • where to find a beta fish breeder?

I am looking for a private beta fish breeder in Philadelphia or in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Fish enthusiasts don't recommend buying one from the pet store but I don't want to pay a whole lot to get a fish shipped, plus I would imagine the shipping is very stressful. How do I go about finding one?

  • washing bra with washer that does NOT have a gentle cycle?

I just bought a few new bras and want to keep them lasting a while. The biggest thing is that my washing machine does not have a gentle cycle, it has a cold/dark cycle that I use. I had a bra bag but my washer broke the zipper and it would twist the bag and bra anyway so that I would have to untangle them. I bought a bra bubble but it easily breaks open in the machine. I was able to secure it with zip ties but... sigh is there an easier way? What about the dishwasher, I heard that's good for baseball caps because it doesn't bend them out of shape. What detergent do I use? I only washed them once and the soft material outside the bra has bunched up (I believe it's called pilling).

  • why can ferrets be nuetered so young?

I used to work at a pet store where their ferret supplier was I believe Marshalls, they would come to us 9-12 weeks old already spayed and nuetered. All these years I have yet to figure out why these animals and be altered so young but not dogs and cats (though I do know some vets will do cats at 2 or 3 pounds, 3 pounds being more common)

  • partial spay or a mistake in spaying?

I have a 3 year neutered dog, he was neutered around a year and a half old. He very rarely mounts other dogs and when he does I can tell it's usually a dominance thing and I correct him. He spends a lot of time hiking with them (and me and their owners). There is one female dog (spayed supposedly) he has hiked with a few times and they get along very well. The last time we went on a hike my dog was RELENTLESS with her! Constantly following her rear end, sniffing it, licking it and trying to mount her. They looked like two intact dogs the way he was following her butt around. I corrected him every time, she corrected him and would "tell him off" but he was determined for her to be his girlfriend. What was kind of humerus was when she would "tell him off", snap at him, he would look longingly at her and whine like he couldn't understand why she was being so mean to him. As far as I know he's never been around females in heat and he has certainly never acted this determined before.

This female dog (and mine) came from a shelter and was spayed there. Is it possible that they made a mistake while they spayed her? Maybe left one ovary or something? I've heard of ovarian remenant syndrome, is that common? Also another funny thing is this dogs owner has another dog, a neutered male and on a previous hike another male dog was relentless in mounting this male dog (and the male dog took it unlike his "sister"). I told the owner he must put a special perfume on his dogs that make all the other dogs want to mount his two dogs. But WHY?? It was kind of funny but I felt horrible my dog was being such a nuisance when he usually so well behaved.

  • dog anxiety in car when left alone?

On the weekends I am always taking my dog to parks and hiking so he's in the car a lot. So it's just natural that there are a lot of times I have to run into stores or our hiking group may go out to lunch as long as it's not too hot (we stick with fall, winter, and spring times) and we leave our pups in the car. Most of the dogs are so worn out from hiking they just sleep in the car. But for the most part I try to not leave him for more than a few minutes. Almost every single time we go out I have to run into a store for at least a minute. I've had him for over a year now and he is just getting progressively worse with anxiety when I leave the car. Even when I turn into parking lots he start whining. Then when I turn off the car the whining gets worse. And when I'm walking away from the car he's barking. Once I get in the store he seems to be quiet and just looks for me. But it is getting progressively worse and I'm afraid it will continue to get worse. He has no anxiety in the house, in fact we leave to go to work in the morning and the dog is laying in his bed without a care in the world. I have yet to try completely ignoring him, mostly I try to calmly (if possible) tell him to "shut up". Obviously it's not working. Would completely ignoring him help? Any suggestions.. besides not leaving him in the car. I make sure the windows are down (not too far down for him to escape), and if it is really hot and I have to run in the store for a minute I leave the car running hoping someone won't steal a car if a intimidating looking dog is in it.

  • root canal, acne and swollen glands?

I've always had temperamental skin and acne come and goes depending on my time of month, weather, stress, lord know what else. A few years ago (more than 3) I went to the dentist after not going for like 10 years and he found one tooth that needed a root canal. That tooth never bothered me so I was a coward and ignored him and hoped he was lying. And haven't been to a dentist till recently. They once again pointed out the tooth on my left side upper jaw. So I went through with it, it took 4 visits a few weeks apart each to complete everything. Starting from the first visit when they drilled and I think cleaned out the tooth, shortly afterwords there was severe acne along my jawline and neck on the same side as the tooth. Which is very rare for me to have acne there and so severe. Also my neck gland on the same side has been swollen.

I pointed out the acne to the dentist and she said she did not think there was a connection since the tooth is on my upper jaw and acne on the lower. Can there be a connection? All the dentist work is now complete since wednesday. The swollen gland went down significantly. Should a see a doctor? There are no other symptoms I was just going to wait it out like I waited out this root canal:) I swear from now on I will take better care of my teeth and see the dentist on a regular basis.

  • Dog urinating all of a sudden?

We adopted a dog a little over a year ago. He was supposedly around a year and a half old so now hes probably around two or three years old. He wasn't neutered at the shelter but was neutered when adopted. When we got him home he seemed to be already potty trained and crate trained except for a few accidents that we could trace to our fault. He is usually good about letting us know when he has to go out. Last saturday I took him on our usual 5.5 mile walk where he can pee to his hearts content. Brought him home, he peed before going in the house. About 2 hours later we went to the store for 15 minutes, locked him in his room, came back there was a urine puddle on the floor!!

The next day Sunday let him out in the morning, a few hours later I come walking downstairs, there's another urine puddle! Then we left for a few hours (he was shut in his room with his crate that stays open) and he was fine. Then the work week comes and I figure if he has any issues it will be when he is shut in his room for 8 hours while we are at work. He's been fine.

Came home today, all good, took him on our 2 mile walk, he went upstairs to apparently lay in his crate while we watched tv, not even 2 hrs later after he came home from the walk there's a big puddle of urine on our bed which he isn't even allowed on in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I have to take him to the vet to make sure it's not medical before I kill him but if he had problems wouldn't it show when he's locked up for 8 hours? I know cats can urinate to show there displeasure but I thought dogs were less likely to do so. Could he be urinating just because he's a bast*@*? I have four cats and have no issues with them at all, and now this dog starts acting up!

And I am positive it's not the cats, they are very different smelling urine and it's way too much to come from a little kitty.
