Am a proud mother of a beautiful daughter

  • Bi-racial Child - hair ingrediants I am using? Ok? input please?

I usually use mixed chicks in my daughter who is half Jamaican/Italian. Though I find not the biggest difference. Although it is a decent product. Anyhow I go to the Market in my city and visit some community stores. One in particular is an Trini man who makes all natural products for face/hair/body/skin....etc

I was given for free a product he wants me to try on my daughter, so far it looks nice on her and really brings out her curls and it's soft. Though I was told a long time ago by two mixed people that I better be careful what oils I use in her hair now as a baby as it could define how beautiful her hair grows as an adult.

The ingredients in this new natural product (which I know he makes himself) are:

Cocoa butter - Black castor oil - Argon Oil - Palm oil - coconut oil - shea butter - Hemp seed oil - Jojoba oil - Olive oil - Avocado oil.

Anyone have input about this or is bi-racial themselves that have other suggestions?

  • Family court experience?

In Aug we have our first case conference. I am not happy that we are leaving decisions into the hands of a man/woman we don't know "judge" to make some serious decisions on our family. I trust that it will work in our daughters favor though. Her father has not picked her up to take her on any one on one time in 10 months. He has not visited to see her in 10 weeks. I stopped allowing him to pick her up after 6 months of not picking her up and spending one on one time, he attempted to say he was going to randomly pick her up and I told him that at the age she was in (currently she is 15 months old) she had major attachment to her sole caregiver *me* and unless he was willing to have me come along, it wouldn't work.

I have offered him to come over to my home any time to start re-building relationship before taking her off property.

I am even taking a 1 hour transit ride tomorrow to give his mother the opportunity to see our daughter. He has emotionally abandoned his daughter and I have made MAJOR attempts at including him the best I can within reason. He has denied all communication and has made no attempt to see her or talk to me in 10 weeks. Actually longer than that.

So now he is in agreement of me having full custody yet he wants to fight for 1 over night every second weekend. Yet, he has not spent time with her (personally) in 10 months and she has yet to ever be at his home since her birth.

People tell me that he will probably be granted supervised visits to rebuild the relationship and than move forward to visits off property to eventual over nights. I really look forward to the point when he can have her for over nights.... that would be a success.

Do you know anything on how a judge goes about this matter in regards to supervised visits? Am I aloud to request us to meet in a public place while I am there or will they choose someone he is comfortable with?

Please share with me your experiences or thoughts.

    Thanks

  • Opinion on Ferber Method?

My girlfriend & I had coffee yesterday and I was discussing how I am going to be starting the breaking of a bad habit I created with my 9 month old, starting after the Christmas weekend, (breaking the habit of letting her fall asleep with bottle in crib.)

I told my girlfriend how this is going to be a big fight and I will need consistency and so forth and she recommended a book she read by Dr.Ferber in which it goes into Detail of the Ferber Method type of 'Cry it out."

I am so open to reading books, if I had read more books before I had her I would have probably read not to give bottles in cribs in the first place, YET, I have always been a very big believer that when my baby cries, I pick her up, i check her out, even if it appears she just wants to be held. She affirmed that this is a method where she can cry for hours if she wants, and I am NOT to pick her up at all, yet just comfort her, no matter WHAT!!!

Okay so I will read a lot more about this method, but was really wondering about this controversial issue, I want to hear from other mothers who have practiced this method, Or not, and what your view about it is. Oh and if you have any experience you can share about a different way of breaking the bottle in crib habit? As I am open to hearing other women's experience of course.

  • How to fix a three wheeler stroller Tire?

I have a 3 wheeler jogger type stroller, its actually a Baby Trend Expedition.

I went over something very sharp it appears because now my one tire has went flat and needs more than air to fix it! I was wondering where I can get this fixed? Or can I just simply buy a Patch spray and do it myself. Is there tubing inside that needs to be seen and fixed? I don't know.

    Thanks

  • Am I wrong to want to complain?

I moved into a building where I have a neighbor who practice's some form of Pentecostal services in her home weekly. Sometimes on a weeknight and sometimes on a weekend. I don't care about what religion a person practices, I have a huge faith in God and his divine Presence yet I find it very nerve racking and LOUD when she has these services in her home as there is a mans voice, and another woman or twos voice and they speak in Tungus and scream and make banging noises and clapping and they are right next door to me. My baby luckily hasn't woken up yet, but I have been woken up. The screaming consists of "I cast the evil out of you.... *over and over again* and more in depth talk of jesus the savior having mercy. Do you think after its gone on so long (about an hour) after 8 pm that it's wrong of me to get fed up and want to make a complaint? The lady across from me has also mentioned to me how this bothers her as she had fled a very abusive marriage in which her two children were witness to and they get scared when they hear the screaming of the mans voice, and banging. I feel that we have rights too!

I just feel its over kill and its disrespectful of other peoples living space, or do you think I am in the wrong here if I put in a complaint? She has no reason as to why she can't go to the church for service, she is very capable young lady. Like I said, this is not about religion to me, this is about the effect the noise has!

  • 8 month old new habit is banging her head and hitting her face!?

My daughter may have picked his up in daycare, or not? Either way she has started banging her head on things, I know its just her exploration method and maybe even doing it because it gets her more attention. Than there is this wonderful banging her face lightly with her right arm.... always the same arm on one side of face. Anyone know how I can go about this stage of her age? Do I recognize what she is doing and pull her hand away from her face, or do I pretend to be doing something and don't pay any mind? Can't help but find this stage a very funny one!

  • Best savings account for savings ONLY?

I am currently in school full time and making very VERY little cash flow. YET I am wanting to put away $80.00 a month into a savings account for the next 3 years (when school ends) and I must move from my location. Is there a savings account that allows me to deposit yet makes it very difficult to take out the money?

  • Any advice on how to deal with my daughters lack of sleep at daycare?

My daughter is 8 months old now, and she started day care 6 months ago when I had to go back to school to finish my diploma. I really do like my daycare and My daughter LOVES her friends there and the socializing she gets. Problem is, there are days she doesn't take more than 30 minute nap all day. I know a big part of this could be because at home she is usto being able to have a bottle in the crib, yet.... anyone got any advice on how to handle her getting better sleeps?

Sometimes we get home and by 6pm she is asleep, i barely get enough time with her, and than she is up through the night a couple times, anyone think 6pm is far too early? any advice? wake her up after an hour and let her stay up longer? Ughh this is all new to me, 1st time mom, but really want this no sleeping in daycare to get better. She really has a much more interesting better crib here at home in her comfort zone!

  • Licorice root tea? For infant congestion?

I read in TODAYS PARENT an article for herbal remedies for children when sick. One of the things my daughter occasionally suffers (from daycare) is congestion, in chest and so forth. I read that licorice root is a good natural remedies to give in order to help clear up congestion.

So i was wondering if there are any mothers who have experience with natural remedies? such as this one? or have any input to give me about it?

And if so, what is the proper dosage?

    Thanks

  • Baby congestion (8 month old) chest weeze?

My 8 month old daughter has congestion and cough, cough has been slowly going away but now her congestion is so deep in chest that when she breaths in (at some points) you can feel it if you touch her chest. I am wondering what home remedies I can try. I have already been using humidifier with baby Vic's drops inside. She has gotten this before, and it went away on its own.

Is there anything for an 8 month old? Besides rubbing Vic's on chest at night and using humidifier?

    Thanks

  • Why as mothers, our worst critics sometimes are other mothers?

Now I like to keep things positive but i had to bring this up. Why is my choice to go back to work/school and have my daughter in daycare anyone else reason to critique that decision, or why if another woman decides she wants to stay home and raise her children anyone else position to speak about? and why of all people to judge our positions and choices as mothers, always another mother!?

I have noticed that there are some wonderful mothers who i randomly pass and give a very knowing smile to, than there are those who come out of habit on here for instance who remarks are very critical and I think if a person is critical to others, that is a sign they are hugely critical to themselves. Just saying..... what is that all about? Anyone else notice or wonder this?

  • I need advice from parents who broke the habit of bottle in bed!! No critics?

On another note; my compaint was that before I got her on this habit of bottle time, she was sleeping with only one wake up through the night, now she wakes up 4 times through the night. I recognize her waking up has alot to do with the change as I went back to school when she was 6 months. I also am aware she is missing some baby mommy time and do NOT need to be reminded I have felt guilty enough having had to put her in daycare, and now in truth, i realize how awesome day care has been for both of us, she loves it and has learned to socialize in such wonderful ways!

I am a single mother who has not got the choice to stay home with my daughter, and only single because her father became emotionally abusive so please like I said, no critics, its the way you said it! And don't assume how much Mommy time she gets, we spend every waking hour together, outside of day care and all through weekend, shame on you to even make such a comment!!

  • Is my baby waking up out of habit? Constantly through the night.?

My daughter is now 7.5 months. She was sleeping through the night around her 3 month mark ALOT. Its always been on and off. Ever since she turned around 6 months it's become habit for her to wake up atleast 1-3 times through the night. I have noticed the last week her eating (formula especially) has gotten quit massive. I understand she is going through a growth spurt, its obvious, yet I find she has been now waking up 4 times in the night, sometimes every hour for four hours straight than sleep, and she wants the bottle, even if she doesn't finish it all. Is this habit I am building in her bad? I mean, giving her a bottle to sleep with seems to help her sleep, yet maybe she depends on it? I am so confused.

Please no judgments on anyones part, My daughter holds her own bottle fine and being a mother who is single and in school full time, it's just easier to let her feed herself when it comes to late night wake up calls for food!

  • Does my child need to be attending the church regularly to baptize her?

I have been baptized myself when a child, in the Catholic church. Honestly, we are not attending church yet I very much want her to later attend Catholic school like I had. Is there any rules that say she must be attending the church regularly in order to be baptized by it?

  • 6.5 month old baby and fever? Any advice?

My daughter is 6.5 months old and had her 6 month vacination 4 days ago, last night at 4 am I woke to her crying, she had a fever her temp was 39.6 celsios. Anyhow I took care of it and put her in bed with me and my big blanket, she woke up with me this morning having sweated out on my bed and feeling much better (temp down) yet its back again. As I expect this will last for minimul 48 hours. NOW MY QUESTION: As a child my mother always broke my fever by burning it out, meaning she put me in heavy blankets although I was hot and let me sweat it out. I hear that this is NOT ok for infants, so I haven't done that, yet can someone explain for future reference why? Is this for fear of seizure and causing too much heat?

  • Best Core Workouts after a C-section?

HELLO hot mothers out there :)

I just had my daughter (first born) 2 months ago, unfortunately I put on 70 pounds while pregnant, and have so far lost 37 pounds, and still have the remainder to lose.

Unfortunately i had an emergency C section and although before pregnancy i was at the gym 4 days a week, during pregnancy I lost all energy and didn't make it.

Right now I am UNABLE to attend the gym, i am my daughters primary care giver and don't have access to a gym just yet, but am wondering if someone can give me tips on the BEST workouts, core exercises to build back my stomach muscles so that its not so puffy looking?

How am I supposed to work back the muscles that have been cut? Before baby I had a nice tight stomach and now it just looks mushy! I can't stand it!
