Aquatic plant deficiencies?
Hi everyone, I have a 75 gallon planted tank with a Fluval spectrum led light, eco complete substrate, and some basic plants to start off with like anubias and swords. Recently I have been affected by a brown algae outbreak on the rocks and all the leaves of the plants, I have ordered some nerite snails to cope with that problem because it looks hideous as of right now.
However looking at my plants I am not sure if there is anything else wrong with them, a lot of them are covered with a brown coating or brown specs, but some of them look like they have a little bit of yellow.
I add Flourish once a week, I do not run CO2 but do water changes once a week, nitrates usually run around 30ppm before the water change. I will attach a photo example below. Thank you for your help

Fish1 year agoInteresting Story: Friends or a little more than friends?
Hello everyone. I’ll get straight to the point, I live in a cul de sac, townhouse development, and in my neighborhood is a girl same age as me, 17 and we’ve known each other since we were maybe 5. We haven’t talked since middle school, I go to a private school, she goes to a public school, but not too long ago I decided to snap her and we instantly hit it off, went to Starbucks, Ice cream the whole nine yards.
Then I asked her to prom and we went to prom together had a good time and everything, all good. The thing is before we were kind of just friends as little kids, but now I’m starting to feel something mutual as if we are a bit more than that, but the good old catch, don’t know if the other side thinks similarly. We text often and like I mentioned earlier everything goes smoothly every time I don’t even have to think or hesitate when we talk everything is natural.
It’s tough to make the call from behind a screen but do you think we are friends or maybe a little more? I’m trying to figure out signs from the girl but I can’t really make them out, it’s kind of half and half. Some days I feel like we are friends and then others I feel like the girl tries to impress me, hard to make out. Every snap every text I send is returned pretty quickly, but it’s tough to compliment each other cause we still can’t break out of the old times it seems that way. Very long story but I find it very interesting. Thank you very much for reading in full and put your opinions below!

1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs4 years agoAfrican Cichlids urgent help?
I have three frontosa in with other fish in an 125 gallon tank. The bigger Frontosa is always chasing the other two around the tank constantly, where these frontosa are hiding in the corners at times. However when I tried removing him the other frontosa just took his place and started chasing the second one. What do I do? I have a total of 12 fish a mix of peacock cichlids, haps, and frontosa. There are plenty of rocks, and hiding places. Is it anything to do with food, I feed my fish once every other day?
2 AnswersFish4 years agoHelp!!! African Cichlid behind 3D Backround?
Just recently one of my smaller Auratus cichlids got stuck behind my 3d Backround. There are only 2 very tight and small openings which he probably got in through. The fish can travel the whole length of the tank behind there. None of my other fish have ever done this before. I tried a net behind there and used a flashlight but the the net just scared him away. My question is, is there any way to make him come out, and any preventative for the future?

1 AnswerFish6 years agoHow many african cichlids in a 125 gallon tank?
Hello I was wondering how many African Cichlids in a 125 gallon tank. I am going to keep mostly Mbuna in the tank so you can use that as a guideline.
1 AnswerFish7 years agoPeacock cichlids with Mbuna cichlids?
I know this is a debatable topic but can Mbuna cichlids and Peacock cichlids co-exist with each other. From what I've been hearing, Mbuna are much more aggressive and more hyper than Peacocks.

Can Frontosa cichlids co-exist with Mbuna even though they are both from two different lakes in Africa?
1 AnswerFish7 years agoAre my cichlids fighting? Should I worry about it?
Hello everybody I have a 125 gallon tank with South American/Central American cichlids. I have:
2x Oscar 7.5 inches
1x Gold Severum 3.5 inches
1x Jack Dempsey 5.5 inches
These fish have been together for about 5 months now with plenty of hiding spots. So today I just introduced a Guatemalan P. Melanurus which is 6.5 inches, also another cichli. When I put him in the tank my oscars started flaring at him, not biting him but flaring and nudging. On the other hand by jack dempsey was consistently following him around with his gills extended. The new fish occasionally flared back. So I checked later on and the fish somewhat forgot about it, but every time he went next to the oscars, they opened their mouth real wide and backed him up. My jack dempsey wasn't doing anything but following him. The fish has no scales missing or bitten tail. I moved the decor around but I don't know if it helped.
So will this eventually stop or is it just not really important? If it is something to be worried about, then what do I do to fix it?
1 AnswerFish7 years ago125 gallon nitrate problem?
Hello everybody I have been having a nitrate problem in my 125 gallon tank. My nitrates were extremely high like 160ppm!
I've been doing water changes every other day of 30-40%, along with nitrate pads being changed every week. The reason why my nitrates went up so high was because I was over feeding my fault. So I finally got them down to 70 or 80 ppm, the api test kit is so hard to read. My ammonia and nitrite are also 0. Now I don't have that many fish in the tank just 2 oscars and a pleco, and I want to add a new fish in a couple of days. So my question is, is 70-80ppm still bad for South American/Central American cichlids, and will it be a problem if a introduce a new fish to this. Should I do one more 40% water change before I go and possibly get the fish?
1 AnswerFish7 years agoHigh nitrate problem?
Hello everybody, I have a 125 gallon tank with a nitrate problem. My nitrates are very high like 100ppm and I've been doing 40% every other day to get them down. I realize that the thing that caused it was me over feeding my fish, really stupid mistake by me. My normal water change schedule is either 20% every 2 weeks or 40% every month! depending on how busy I am. My ammonia and nitrite are always 0 so my filtration is very sufficient. Every water change I do I dig really well in the gravel and uproot all the waste. I keep testing my water and keep getting the same results, I even brought the test to my LFS and they said it was still the same. I try to put nitrate pads in my filter to help. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or if I need to continue doing the same thing. Here is my stock list:
2 oscars 7 inches
1 severum 3.5 inches
1 jack dempsey 5.5inches
3 silver dollars 4.5 inches
2 tinfoil barbs 4.5 inches
1 common pleco 9 inches
