  • Is it worth buying a projector and screen to TV, PC, and Netflix etc?

I have been looking at cheaper projectors and they seem reasonable for small homes (short projection distance/large screen) but vary in lumens and resolution.

not too sure what I need but don t have a large living room. Any thoughts or help welcome.

  • Why does the measuring cup on my 3L fabric softener have more than twice the capacity of that on my 1.5L container?

This is 'Comfort' which was recently on special offer so I currently have both. 3L says 85 washes and 1.5L says 42 - all logical so far.

But while the smaller container cap has obvious levels for filling, there does no appear to be clear fill points on the cap to the larger one.

  • What are the signs just above the keys on a Yamaha piano keyboard?

I just bought a s/h Yamaha keyboard and can see a small image or icon above each key printed in grey on the black plastic case - I can lean in really close and wear two pairs of spectacles and am still none the wiser, so if they are intended to help me play, that isn t going to be the answer!

  • Upgrade Win 7 to 8.1 or 10?

I know that support for Windows 7 is over and I believe for 8.1 too now - so, should I upgrade to windows 10 direct, or is it worth giving 8.1 a a go for a time?

  • What is the likely cost for a bit of prep and respray for a small bit of damaged paintwork?

A stone chip near the windscreen has caused some paint damage that has got worse due to lack of attention.

Am thinking I could get a mobile spray service if anyone has any idea of likely cost. Thanks.

  • Is it okay to use copyright photos to paint a picture?

I have found some great photographs on the Internet and have made acrylic paintings of some on block canvases. However, one or two photos seem to have a copyright either stated or implied. Surely there aren t any laws saying you can t actually make a painting from them are there?

  • Can I delete Windows.old folders?

I ended up with a totally broken version of windows 7 on my new PC after trying to download and install Windows Updates.

I then started again from scratch and reinstalled Windows 7. It found the old (broken, non-bootable) version of windows and put it all in a Windows.old folder.

It takes up over 13Gb on my limited 120Gb SSD, so it would be handy to regain that space.

I have spent forever downloading every single update individually (and some still won't install and force a Windows repair after each attempt to do so), so do not want to risk losing this installation at this stage.

Just want to know if it is safe to expunge.

    Thanks

  • Do I really need a graphics card in my new PC build?

Am about to order parts for a new PC and don t want to spend on stuff I don t need.

I use CAD/Sketchup, Photoshop/Gimp, Excel/Word, listen to music and watch the odd DVD plus a fair bit of web based videos like YouTube and so on.

Games are not my thing so am not looking to be able to do that.

So do I really need something like a Sapphire Radeon R7 or GeForce GTX or can I safely go for an AMD APU and add a Graphics card later if I want or even use a very simple and inexpensive graphics card?

  • How much heat comes off a tumble dryer into the room?

I am planning on installing a vented tumble dryer into a large cupboard where I also keep dry food and veg. I just wondered whether the heat generated by the tumble dryer will have an adverse effect on the food or if there isn't too much to worry about. Thanks.

  • Can I ask for this drain to be rerouted?

There is a drain which exits from my neighbour's property and runs very close to the ground surface in my garden and enters a manhole of mine. None of the drain runs on my property form part of a sewer, except for this odd connection.

I have not been in this house for very long, and have had one bad experience with sewage bubbling up into the garden following very heavy and sustained rainfall which leads me to suspect that a number of local properties run their surface water into the foul system (it should not as it is not a combined system in this locality).

My neighbour is selling and I wanted to try to coordinate any action so that it can be accommodated during the sale if necessary.

    Thanks

  • In the UK, is anybody allowed to knock on your door and ask for ID?

I had bailiffs around this morning for the third time looking for a previous occupant of this address. Typical bully-boy type who insisted that he had the right to ask for ID after I had told him that the person he was looking for did not live here any longer and that I had been living here for 6 months. This is identical to what I told the last court appointed visitor.

  • Can I use a computer to achieve a 'smart' TV?

I have been considering purchasing a smart LED TV but it seems that I could do better by linking the output of my PC to a normal LED 1080p TV as it seems that all the 'smart' part does is give things like BBC iplayer or similar, Facebook and Twitter etc. I believe that some TVs also allow a crudely managed form of web browsing, but even this would be better done from a PC that outputs to the TV, or have I got it wrong?

I may get one anyway for the 3D option, but even this is not so very pressing with the BBC having dropped all work on 3D broadcasting for the time being.

Can anyone actually offer a good argument for purchasing a smart TV and paying the 200 or 300 pounds premium for doing so (for a large screen TV that is)?

  • Can I re-register a replacement Kindle e-ink without losing content?

I had an earlier Kindle (e-Ink) that was catastrophically destroyed when the car ran over it.

I have managed to purchase a replacement off eBay and it contains quite a number of books (it was thus advertised) many of which I would like to read.

I have held off re-registering the new Kindle for fear of losing the newly purchased content.

I have read conflicting reports as to whether or not the content remains or is wiped. Neither the old nor the new Kindles are Kindle Fire models - both are e-ink.

I really need to know definitively which it is so that I can also eventually add further purchases to the new Kindle.

    Thanks for any knowledgable responses.

  • Can a router/modem act as a 'network'?

If I set up a router with wireless connectivity, completely on its own apart from a cable to a printer, could I print from my iPad with the appropriate app?
