Ancient salt construction blocks - what archaeological detection systems?
We can grow salt crystalline structures as large as we care to, and ancient tech permitted very large crystals to be grown. In a totally arid desert with minimal rainfall, a structural block of salt could last for decades. Using modern coatings, could last for centuries. It becomes the most inexpensive structural component, is easily shaped/contoured, and is hugely strong under distributed load (point loads would quickly fracture). Discussion is, what realm of archaeology site survey science would detect if structural salt was used? What might remain in higher abundance or altered permanently by high-saline & high pressure environments for decades? What could we study to prove/disprove ancient walls or pillars of salt?
2 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology6 years agoHow do we grow more Trees in the Mid-West?
I postulate that if our American Farmer in the mid-west were willing to allocate only 2% of his farmland to growing trees, then the world would be a better place. If we can use engineered stands of trees to disturb laminar flow across the Earth's surface, tornados cannot sustain some of their intensity over distance. The turbulance caused by the trees - especially at high speed wind conditions, extinguishes harmonic resonnance within the atmosphere (sounds far out & wild, but two decades ago we didn't know elephants talk over many miles at low frequencies either) so the opportunity to build structures like tornados & microbursts within the atmosphere are diminished.
There is assured reduction of wind velocity on the ground near the trees, and a very positive impact on both wind & water erosion, increased aviary population, and overall need of America to grow more trees for harvesting.
So, to get this done, gummint will have to offer incentives and provide penalties for farmers to grow trees where they can instead grow soybeans - we will have to have scientific evidence to make it happen.
Has anyone done wind tunnel/computer studies showing how properly configured tree stands can impact airflow across the prairie? So show me the studies!!!
4 AnswersAgriculture8 years agoLowest Hz moving @ C?
Sound travels in meters per second and well below the Speed of Light (C) - referred to as a "mechanical" wave. Radio waves travel at the speed of light - "electromagnetic" wave. Somewhere between there is a frequency which travels at the speed of light, but if you decrement it one Hz, the lower frequency does not travel at the speed of light. That frequency must exist by criteria, unless there is a third category between mechanical waves & e-m waves.
What is the frequency above which all waves move @ C, and who did the preliminary study within that range of frequencies? I need to research this process and want to start at the beginning. Thanks!
1 AnswerPhysics8 years agoWhat is a cheap and good HD video editor?
I am a science geek and know which end of the camera points where. I am to create a from-scratch presentation HD video for a new scientific model, and will need to edit the sucker. It will contain jpegs and possibly animation shorts - if I get ambitious enough to make them.
Audio overdub will be a key to success. I gots very few semollians to pay and lots of patience to learn a difficult editor. What do you recommend?

1 AnswerTVs8 years ago2004 Nissan Sentra - Where and the fuel pump relay and the fuel pressure sensor?
I turn on the ignition and the pump gets power for a second or so. I am in the back seat @ the pump and I hear a click from either the dashboard or the engine compartment, and the power shuts off. I will check the pump for operation tonight (car is 80 miles away from home - Murphy's Law!), but I suspect the relay or the pressure sensor as well. Thanks!
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoRemoving Latex paint from house outlet covers?
Got some free help to paint the interior of my house and they did not remove or mask the outlet covers. Worse, they painted over the outlet plugs in the wall as well. I am to choose between buying about thirty new covers & 20 outlets, or using something to remove the layer of paint from hard plastic.
3 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling9 years agoWhere does the helium go?
Most say the Sun is converting hydrogen to helium in the process of fusion. So, where is all the helium? Whether you believe the Sun has been here for four thousand years or 40 million, the continuous rate of conversion to create the heat and warmth provided to the Solar System should produce staggering amounts of helium during all moments. After all this time, there should be a lot of helium in the Solar System: Mercury should probably have an atmosphere almost completely made of helium, but there is only a trace. Venus has almost none. We have almost none, and Mars has none. Jupiter has almost none. Saturn’s top atmosphere is about 25%, and Uranus & Neptune about 19%. Comets appear to have none. I roughly calculate that the Sun should be producing the equivalent mass of helium to the Earth’s atmosphere in a very short period of time – not more than a few weeks or worse a few months or years. If the Sun has been pumping out helium for these many eons, then where is it? And please do not use solar wind blowing it out of the Solar System – it would have to blow by the planets, and the ratio numbers I read say it does not. Plus, what motive force demands it leave the Solar System? So, where does it go?
4 AnswersPhysics9 years agoHow does light travel between stars?
Distant stars in our galaxy do not express illumination to us with threshold intensity for our instruments: at the radius to us, some small stars’ signals are too weak for semiconductors of our finest telescopes – quanta are far too low, but we see them. Far worse, with backyard 3” telescopes we easily observe individual stars in distant galaxies. There simply isn’t enough power generated at the source to reach us in the electromagnetic spectrum. We have absolutely, repeat - absolutely known this for the last century. Occam’s Razor; what we observe is not light, not electromagnetic.
We ‘see’ these stars, so discussion is halted before it starts. ‘Cosmic Lens’ is codswallop: Magic suspends physics so electromagnetics are transmitted without loss or expanding waves - silly. Please see that your astrophysics is a failed and easily defeated model. The first part of Chapter Six
http://www.joebrownscience.net/millennialPhysicsCh...
is different proof.
I recently posted my question but got no answer and witnessed how this issue is kept hidden. Most response was dogmatic, knee-jerk condemnation, and the kindly remainder stopped when I had made my point using their evidence: “How can scientists have stumbled over this mistake for a hundred years and continue to do so for convenience?”

4 AnswersBoats & Boating9 years agoHow does coherent light travel between stars?
It can easily be demonstrated that coherent light does not travel between stars. Look at the night sky – it is black – a dead giveaway if you know anything about wave physics. For everything we know about light, stars would appear as smudges after traveling that far. We also see stars so far away that their light energy should not reach us with any significant intensity, let alone being visible to our eyes. Galaxies are crystal clear, yet the light reflected from Pluto reveals a mottled image that has far less resolution with our best telescopes.
So, we cannot see Pluto with any clarity, AND light supposedly comes from stars – especially individual stars in distant galaxies, to us as coherent light: these are two statements of fact that together have no merit whatsoever, let alone being the basis for astrophysics. We can ‘see’ the starlight which has most of the properties of coherent light, and there is no need to investigate further unless you know something about wave physics.
Bring me a good photo of Pluto with enough resolution to equate with being able to detect planets 200 light years away or read Chapter Six, linked below.
My question is, “How is it that the entire community of astrophysicists must each stumble over this rationalization, yet in the last century of advanced physics, nobody has called the question – until me?”
8 AnswersAstronomy & Space9 years agoAre Tectonic Plates recycling the Earth's crust?
We have graphed that the plates are moving, erupting out of the crust in one area, and sublimating in another. If you look at a plate, determine its rate of sublimation, if the Earth has been in existance for long enough, the entire plate's surface would have been sucked under the crust by now, with new surface every so-many million years. Has anyone done those calculations?

5 AnswersCats9 years agoDoes tobacco secondary smoke transmit viruses?
I was sitting next to a person whose odor reeked of cigarettes, and he was coughing. I know that a lot of tobacco smoke is oils and colloids, and it seems sensible that these structures could maintain viruses as they travel through the air.
Has anyone generated a study that uses tobacco smoke as the vector of virus transmission?
3 AnswersInfectious Diseases9 years agoDDT used for a special application?
Modern pesticides are shown to NOT be effective against bedbugs. The major contribution to our health of DDT was to destroy bedbugs when it was first distributed. My Father was a physician in Philadelphia, Pa just before World War II. He siad that when the bums were sprayed with DDT, when you walked across the floor, it sounded like walking on peanut shells - there were so many bedbugs and fleas. Today, hotel beds permit breeding and distribution of bedbugs. It is clear that elimination them from the country's hotels would provide a measure of increased safety.
The issue with DDT was not human exposure, but of bird exposure to the latent residue. Back in the day, we used DDT everywhere we could afford - in very large quantities, and the birds absorbed it. My point is, the usage in hotels would be one ten-thousandth of the previous usage levels and the venue is distinctly away from the birds. Could we consider using it in hotels, with certified technicians?

1 AnswerPacking & Preparation1 decade agoE-publishing a Novel - software?
The book is written in MS Word, each chapter is a file. I am told there is another step or two I must take to massage the text format before it can be correctly offered online as an E-Book. It is science fiction (no surprise, huh?), so the opportunity to add illustrations would be helpful, but not as important as pouring this text into the right file format to be used fairly universally by the current technology.
If you know of a firm that permits me to autonomously publish through their system without giving them all the profits, lemme know.
I briefly went through the Answers offered by the category, but they were off the mark and so I asked.
Don't mind spending money for the right software. Thanks!
