  • What are reasons I can give to rescue over new puppy?

My brother and SIL lost their golden retreiver (only 6 yo) recently. At first, my SIL said they would adopt. Now, my brother is pushing for a puppy FROM A BREEDER "so they can train him the way they want." I'm looking for good arguments/stats to get them back to thinking about adopting. Thanks all!

  • Can I create a user account on my PC that does not allow my teenage kids internet access?

I'd like my boys to be able to their homework -- without the temptations of going on line to chat with friends, check out their myspace page, etc. Right now, we enter the password for them, but they frequently are playing around on the web rather than doing their homework. Thanks!

  • Where can I find a replay of tonight's debates?

I have a commitment, so I won't be able to watch them live, but I would like to view them later. Does anyone know where I can find them?

  • Why so many short-haired dogs on Petfinder.com?

I was just on petfinder.com searching for a medium-sized dog for my brother (who's golden recently died). He wants a long-haired dog, but out of the first 150 dogs, only a handful were long-haired.

Wondering what the reason might be.

  • What's an appropriate response when a beloved dog dies?

My brother's wonderful golden retriever, only 6 yrs old, suffered massive internal bleeding this weekend (likely from a tumor on her heart). What should I do for them?

  • Is a Furminator's job ever done?

I got my furninator a couple of weeks ago. I've been using it just about every day on my long-haired chihuahua -- and I'm still getting lots of fur out. Will it ever start coming up empty?!?

  • What's the value of teeth to an adult dog?

I have a 5 yr old, ong-haired chihuahua (and I can spell it, too!). He recently lost a tooth, and is now on a dental wash and I'm pretty regular at brushing his teeth.

But I was just curious what would the consequences be if he loses more teeth. I'm not talking about the dental disease that probably comes with it, but the actual issues of having a toothless dog.

Obviously, I would feed him soft food which could result in soft stools. Any other issues?

    Just curious!

    Thanks!

  • Traveling with a dog in Montreal

We'll be staying one night in Montreal next weekend. Do you have any ideas on places we can go with a golden retriever? Places to dine or site see? Thanks!

  • Punctuation question for dog answer regulars!

I just got the funniest "tip" when I answered a question. (The kind that pops up while your typing a response.) It said, "Hmm...it looks like you have a lot of punctuation".

I'm a good writer and know when to use punctuation. Isn't it ironic that I got a notice like that when so many questions are so poorly written with no capitalization or punctuation?

If your dog could be represented by a punctuation mark, what would it be?

Buddy, my long-haired chihuahua, would be a comma -- because he's always resting! (Usually on my lap!)

  • $100 for flea, mosquito and tick control for a chihuahua???

I just got a season's worth FMT control from my vet -- VECTRA is the brand name. They said that the F,M,Ts, are becoming immune to the the stuff used in Frontline, etc. Anyone else run into this? Do you think I really need this expensive stuff when Buddy is primarily an indoor dog? Oh, the heartworm med is separate and was $50. Thoughts and comments appreciated. Thanks!
