  • Indestructible toys for autistic child?

Does anyone know where I could get some indestructible toys? A friend of mine has an autistic child who will pick and poke and break absolutely everything.

It has to be incredibly strong, and not wood because he'll eat wood.

Anyone have any idea's where I could find such a thing?

  • Malamute companion breed suggestions?

We're thinking about getting another dog. We already have a Malamute, and we'd like another dog to keep her company.

Because we have a young daughter who still need the pushchair on walks, it'd have to be a breed that's quite easily walkable.

Also, I think another one as big as her would be a little cramped, so maybe a toy / small sized dog.

Must be good with kids, and not a habitual yapper.

    Any idea's?

We're going to go to the shelter sometime in january, but just wanted to see if someone had a good idea of a breed to look out for :)

    -Good with kids

    -Gets on with other dogs

    -Not a yapper.

    Thanks guys :)

  • Toddler drinking too much ?

I know it's been hot in the UK so i'm sure my daughter will drink more than normal.

But how much is starting to worry me. She's 15 months old, and yesterday she drank about 5 pints, as well as her normal milk.

She's acting okay, but a few weeks ago she had a bug when she was throwing up 5 times a day, and still seemed fine.

How much are your little ones drinking, does it seems like a giant amount?

  • Malamute compatible small dogs?

We have a 2 yr old Malamute, and her name's storm.

She has a wonderfully daft temperament, and is a-typical Malamute.

We're thinking about getting her a companion, loafer, an alsatian, lived with her for a while and she loved the company.

However, we have a 1yr old daughter, so I don't think we could cope with another big dog in the house.

I know it depends on the individual dogs, but does anyone have any ideas about which small dogs would get along with such a playful Mal?

I've only ever had Spitz class.

Thanks guys... Just want a few ideas :)

  • Unusual plant present?

I am absolutely clueless about plants. Just want to make that clear lol.

Mu MIL however, absolutely loves them, and can grow everything. She's especially gifted with orchids, phalenopsis (sp?) are her favourite.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a good present for her, as I know she'll appreciate a plant, i just don;t know which one !

    Something indoor preferably, colourful.

I wanted to get her a tacca, but I can't find any available in the UK until March.

Thanks for your help guys, she really means a lot to me.

  • Vegan/PETA farming methods?

A whole load of recent questions has made me wonder about peoples ideas.

In an ideal world, how would vegans/peta supporters deal with farming?

An entire harves can be consumed by rats in 2 weeks, apart from Jackies, what other, viable, methods are there for keeping the rats away?

What about pests? Would people deliberately introduce a predator, organic/natural pesticides etc?

I really would like to hear what people say about this, because all to often animal rights involves the cute ones, and they forget about the bugs and rats.

How can you be a farmer and not harm ANY animal?

  • Harness with backpack for Malamute?

We've been looking for a backpack/pannier that we can use with a 30kg Malamute.

But there's one problem, we need to use a harness as it's for sled training, and a collar is for walking.

Does anyone know where we could get a backpack with an in-built harness attachment?

Most of the ones we've seen have material right where the normal harness loop goes, so we'd like a backpack either without the material over the back, or attached harness.

  • Animal? Robot? Is Gordon alive?

I love robots, I really do. This is Gordon.

    http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Science-Fi...

He's a robot with rat cells for a brain.

    Is he alive?

At what point of hybridism does something turn into robot with rat brain, and rat with robot appendages?

    Is he alive?

He has a working, natural brain.

What makes him different to a person that has prosthesis for all limbs?

Just wanting to get people's opinion on technologies like this.

One more Q, could you look at him and turn him off?

  • Definition of animal?

What do vegetarians count as animals???

    Bacteria?

    Parasites?

    Worms?

This really isn't meant to disrespect anyone, i truly am interested in people's opinion.

    I'm not V*gan.... I eat meat.

But what about animal experiments using bacteria, plenty of medications are made using genetically modified bacteria.

What about worms / small organisms that infect plants?

    Do they count as animals?

I'd just like to see where people draw the line :)

  • Dog costumes for halloween?

Okay, I usually hate clothes on dogs, and my dog hates them too Lil.

She's an alaskan malamute. I've seen one but I don't know where to get it from.

It's a harness, that makes it look like there's a goblin warrior riding the dog hehe.

Just wondering if anyone knew where I could get one. Storm is being the candy bag this year, she's dragging a sled for the goodies and I though this would be good.

Anyone know where I can get one?

  • Breastfed baby and allergies?

Okay, I'm exclusively BF my 3 month old daughter.

Tuesday she had a red rash around her mouth. She didn't seem to be too bothered by it, although she was fussier than normal. It went down in about an hour.

    Could this be an allergy?

I have no allergies, but no medical family history, so i don't know about anyone else. My husband's family don't have any history.

The only thing that i'm worried about is the fact i ate a big peanut bar on tues, i rarely eat nuts and it's the first time I've eaten peanuts since she was born.

Could she be allergic to nuts, or am I just being paranoid and coincidence?

  • Animal Antiques?

What do you think about animally produced antiques?

i.e. piano's, ivory keys, old furs, bone handled items.

I have two furs, one 1920 and one 1890. Bone handled silver, ivory carvings, none of them made after 1920.

I am not veggie or vegan, but i have great respect for animals and no not eat factory prepared or cruel meat.

What do some of you think about such items? I lovI would never buy a new fur, or anything containing ivory etc.

Since it's already done, I feel it a little pointless to throw them away, they are so old and I feel important parts of my heratige, they've always been in the family and I don't see why I should throw them away.

What started this was SIL, saying I have a house full of torture glorifying horrors, but she is a bit of a nutter on the animal rights front, i.e it's cruel to my pet dog because she's not in the wild.

I know i ramble..... but I just wanted to see what other people thought about things like this. Would you/do you own any animal antiques

  • Disconcerting dream.....?

Okay, I usually have vivid dreams, but this takes the mickey. I can remember smells, sounds, clothes etc... with such detail.

I'm on a space-ship, which in the dream is a normal place to be, it's where I live, and i think always have. I don't think we were going anywhere. Anyway, I produce a drug, one that has hallucingenic effects. It's used in surgery and therapy for the other people on the ship, I'm not sure how or what it is, smells like cotton candy and grass....

However, it is illegal. There are a few of us that make and use this drug, but it is very frowned upon by the authorities.

    We're found out. We're executed.

Me, (looking nothing like me, in the dream i'm black, short, with braids, and a lot chubbier than i am in real life), and my co-conspiritor, (tall, male, red head, green sheen to the skin).

What looks like a pair of tongs, with electricity flowing through the points is stuck on the back of my neck. I died, and I can remember being dead.

  • Why open adoption?

I'm an adoptee, twice over. I was adopted age 6 months, after my parents died, but something happened and I was sent back to the foster care homes, and adopted again when I was 4 1/2.

I have no borth parents to compare it with, but I do have the people that originally adopted me.

What I want to know is, why do people want 'open' adoptions? The concept to me is just bizzare.

From the Bmothers point of view, if you don;t want to care for, lok after, or have a relationship with your child, why all the fuss about being in contact and having a relationship with them?

As for the Amother, why would you want your child to have a relationship with someone that's already rejected that, rejected the chance to bring the baby up.

From my point of view, my first Aparents gave up any right to have contact with me when they gave me up. They gave up any rights to a relationship when they didn't want to look after me anymore.
