  • Replacing house wiring low roof?

I am about to buy a house that has a low sloped roof. There are electrical issues and I am just going to replace it all. It's crazy what people do and then can sleep there at nights.

On the outside wall's electrical outlets, a person is not able to get to the the conductors going down the wall.

My solution at the moment is to cut out the drywall above the outlet near the ceiling then replace it. I could then push the cable up into the attic and feed in a new cable.

Knowing I am not the first to confront this problem, is this the only way to replace the cables? I considered coming from the crawl space up but that would be a lot of work, guessing, and crossing fingers.

    Thanks

  • Where is The New Colossus on the Statue of Liberty?

I've watched 10 or so virtual tours and a few well made tourist videos but not a single one displays Emma Lazarus' poem. I hope to make it there one day but for now, I'll hoped to view it over the computer. Is there any photo of the plaque where it is currently mounted? Not a photo just of the plaque itself, but it mounted on the wall, in a display, on the floor... wherever?

    Thanks

  • Can one realtor sell property listed by a different realtor?

I'm a little curious. I was waiting for some property in foreclosure to be listed for months and months. Finally it's listed on Zillow. I click one of the realtor's recommended and proceeded to comunicate, went through the bank, and then the last minute the realtor said a cash offer was already accepted. Then offered me these other places to look at.

That's been over a week and I just checked, the property still says active and actually looks like it's being listed by a different realtor group.

So my question, if the house is being listed by one realtor, can a different realtor sell it? I think I know the answer but just want to make sure.

  • What are your thoughts on the linked foundation?

A house came on the market and the prior owners put a lot of money into it except for one thing, the foundation. I have no idea why they didn't address this considering all the other improvements. It was built in the late 1800s, floors seem level, remodeled rooms, roof, windows, air, plumbing... all sitting on this crap:

    https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gz-lwJEe6dk/Uew...

It's only about a 1200 ft^2 house and 1/2 of the foundation is like the above. Are we talking multiple tens of thousands to fix something like that or what?

  • High Voltage Arc over 9 inches?

We had a failure at work due to an arc jump on all three phases 9 inches. Part of my looking into the cause, I wanted to guestimate the amount of voltage required to jump those 9 inches. It may reveal nothing but then again, it might. Lots of things are being tested and so far no answer. The two theories we have at the moment is inductive kickback or over-excitation.

The bus-work normally has 13.8kV on it which could not possibly ionize the air to bridge this gap.

The day was pretty dry, 60% humidity...

Anyway, I don't understand the pin-point arc needing less voltage than some other spread out arc. Say it took a million volts to jump these 9 inches... does 1000kV not ionize the same amount of air whether it's pin pointed or not?

Isn't it a potential sitting on some metal and if that metal is 5 feet in length or 3/8", it's still the same potential. Why would the ionization be different?

    Thanks

  • Curious about a Warzone 2100 phase?

Back at the starting zone map where you head east and I have killed everything on the map. Sending trucks and things looking for whatever I am missing. Scanning the map for anything... killed a couple things left over on the west side... I had stuff all over for line-of-sight viewing and then the timer expired. What did I miss?

  • How do new Bitcoins come into existence?

Read some about this today and I am a little confused. If the entire Bitcoin 'currency' is peer-to-peer, how do the NEW Bitcoins come into existence to be purchased? And purchased from whom?

Tempted to think the entire thing is a billion dollar scam unless I understand that part and I don't.

  • 480 Volt MCCs - when are buckets considered deenergized?

I have read through the 2012 NFPA 70E and other years, and while it speaks about removing buckets from a live MCC and measuring voltages, it does not discuss a MCC bucket with the breaker/disconnect open even though there are leads from the buss bar in the bucket at the top of the breaker.

I personally think once proven dead it is dead, and trained professionals know not to stick their fingers on the incoming bus leads even if they could. But I am butting heads with someone who wants my guys to wear full FR gear while working in a proven dead bucket. This is unacceptable to me. I've read a lot and if need be, I'll send it to safety for an official ruling because you cannot even read a meter in full FR.

I feel removing buckets and replacing them after work poses a much higher danger than simply replacing a fuse or contactor. The tulip clips could fall off or something could find it's way between the phases. I want my guys safe without a ridiculous amount of safety.

Anyway, does anyone have any official rulings or studies on this off the top of their heads? Thanks

  • 3 Shotgun Shells for Fowl, maybe only migratory.?

I know the law seems to be you can have one in the chamber and two in the tube. But I just want to read it myself and man, that is hard to find. I think it is in "Title 50 - Wildlife and Fisheries" but searching that I can't find it... probably the wrong phrase I'm searching for. Anyone know where it is written exactly? Thanks

  • Drywall compound which does not crack?

Had my bathroom remodeled. First day, the tear out and I helped. Next day I was at work and came home - Holy Cow it looked like the people putting up the board were drunk. Miss-measuring this and that, big holes where they cut for a light or switch and got it wrong, flipped the board over and reused it and still getting it wrong. Nail holes down a wall which looked like a machine gun after they looked for a stud. The corners were not close at all. I called and complained. It will take days to fill this mess and let the patches dry.

However, my daughter was here and the drywallers showed up the next day for 1 and 1/2 hours she says. They filled in everything and the next day came by to finish up.

WHAT THE HECK DID THEY USE? If I use the compound from Lowes I could never do what they did... unless I am buying the wrong stuff.

  • Bureau of Labor Statistics Data?

Does anyone know when they survey companies about non-farm payroll, do they exclude offshore or foreign workers?

    I can't find an answer.

For instance, if Yokogawa Corp brings in a couple thousand Japanese to work at divisions in the USA, do they count towards the total civilian job count?

    Thanks

  • Home Equity Loan or Line vs Second Mortgage?

    Is Mr Mortgage Professor accurate?

    http://www.mtgprofessor.com/A%20-%20Second%20Mortg...

The reason I ask is I got a loan. I said it was for bill consolidation which it is. Approved, good interest, very friendly. Ran the papers over lunch time, money deposited into my savings. Later I noticed a line which says that my purpose isn't to use part of the money to pay a Home Equity Loan or Line off.

Does this mean I can't use some of it to finish off my second mortgage? Why the heck not? I never said that. No I haven't called them yet... too late this evening... but it's buggin me.

    Thanks

  • Bug **** on my house vs a pressure washer?

I have these tiny black dots on my siding, which have been multiplying over the years, and I just know it's bug ****. Got out my power washer and can blast off most, but not all. I thought about vinegar but that would destroy my my power washer I'm pretty sure.

Has anyone had to deal with these little turds on your house? HA HA! I'm going to coat my house in poison when I get the turds off.

  • flash player 2.3.4 android?

Yeah I'm old. First "smart" phone. Had it about 3 weeks.

Occasionally I will get a message I need to download the latest Adobe Flash. But when I go there, it says there is no flash compatible with my Android version. Is there an alternative?

  • Infintigo or meth sores?

My 23 year old daughter is a meth and roxicodone abuser. I have arranged a halfway house for her... she is hours away from living on the street. Out of couches to sleep on. She looks terrible... thin... and the sores are heartbreaking. Her paranoia is beyond belief.

She says it's infintigo. It been months and she still has sores. Face, shoulders, arms. She has a 3 year old who doesn't have this "infintigo." We finally got my granddaughter last night. Wouldn't my granddaughter have the sores also?

I think it's meth sores but I can't get her out of her stupor long enough to have her go to a doctor. Most of the time I can't even find her for days and to set up an appointment and the odds of her showing up is about zero.

I thought of another option typing this, but I'll go ahead and ask - how can you tell the difference between infintigo and meth sores?

    Thank you

  • Gumball Picker Upper?

My neighbor had a thing he pushed around his yard and picked up gumballs. He's moved, but I still recall what it looks like, I just don't know what it's called. I was having my tree sprayed but now I need that thing he had. The spraying is outlawed or something due to over-spray.

It was about 3 foot wide cylinder with a diameter of about a foot they rolled around. It had tons of little plastic flexible needle things coming off of it which the gumballs smashed up into and rotated around, scraped out into a bag.

All I can find is the nut wizard and that is not it. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

  • What distance a BB becomes safe?

I had a cable guy come by and all my cable troubles are from squirrels. He replaced the line to the house but a crew has to come out to repair the main line.

So, I want to figure at what angle I can shoot these vermin with a BB gun and not hurt my neighbor's windows. But first I need to figure out how much air friction has on a BB. So I thought I would look up how far some weight of some BB could be shot straight up in the air, take out gravity, and then I would have it. Can't find the starting figure though.

I know these things slow quickly after being shot, so friction has to be an enormous player in a BB's travel.

So, how would you figure the friction on a .2 gram BB with a diameter of 4.45 mm considering all the aerodynamics of a BB negligible? I thought I would just assume it was like a 4.45 mm flat surface. Then again, maybe aerodynamics is the reason they slow down so quickly in the first place...

    Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks...
