Hi I am 20 years old female. Yesterday I woke up with a throbbing pain near my thyroid region at the bottom of my throat/neck. Overall my throat is pretty sore, but there is no white spots, so I doubt it is strep. Whenever I tilt my head backwards there is pain where my adam's apple area is ( i don't really have one, but you get the idea). I also had a slight fever yesterday with a cough. Today I still have the pain and the cough is starting to sound more wet instead of dry. In addition, I have this burning sensation in my right ear along with headaches. I also feel very sluggish. No nausea or vomitting. It is just from the neck up. please help, I don't want to waste time and money at the doctors if its just a cold.

My dad is a retired disabled military veteran, who lives off his non taxable disability benefits from the the military. Which are social security, veteran, and disability. He has no other source of income. My parents were never married and I do not have much contact with her. She is unemployed, and she lives with her husband who owns everything, so she has no assets. My father does not have any investments either. What is my situation?

I'm a soon to be senior in high school and I've been trying trying to decide on a major. I was wondering if it is doable to major in international relations and microbiology/ or neuroscience? I'd do this if I attend Occidental College, but if I go to ASU I'd major in global health and microbiology. I'm not sure if med school is what I want for sure, but I will take the pre reqs. I love politics and science. I would be interested in working for the U.N, the gov, or another agency in a health related field. Any advise would be appreciated, thanks!

If they can balance family and work? Will it be looked down upon?

I bought a box of Jolene bleach and I wanted to bleach some of my body hair such as back and tummy but I do not want it to be pitch white. I want it to go to a very light brown color. The box reccomends leaving the creme on for 10 minutes should I leave it on for 5 then?

Dear Selection Committee:

From numerous hospital visits to finding the empirical formula of my unknown sample; science and medicine has played a significant role in shaping my interests and life goals. Science is my never ending puzzle that I am determined to solve. An major inspiration for this fascination is that two of my siblings have disabilities. One brother having Autism, while the other having Cerebral Palsy. I’ve always wondered how and why these disabilities developed, which makes me determined to help find a cure. My love for science blossomed in elementary school science fairs and watching discovery channel on a Friday night. Now I am a junior that is confident that I want to have a career in medicine.

Working as medical doctor would be a fulfilling career for me. To have the chance to come home after long day of work and being able to say “I made an improvement in someone’s life today.” would make all the sleepless nights spent studying well worth it. My primary interests at the moment are genetics, biomedical engineering, disease research and toxicology. All these interests can be traced back to something I have been involved with and care about in my life. Genetics and disease research come from my brothers. Biomedical engineering interests me from being a member of my school’s robotics team, and toxicology from my AP Chemistry class. I will admit that AP Chemistry has not always been the easiest at times, but it has truly challenged me to work harder and think outside the box.

My future plans are to attend the University of Arizona Honors College and major in a science related field. During this time I want to maintain a high GPA and possibly work as an EMT and my ultimate goal is to be accepted into medical school. The KEYS internship can give me the tools necessary to succeed in science by providing me the opportunity to gain first-hand laboratory experience. In addition it will also grant me the confidence to work in a science setting, and skills to research effectively. I knew I wanted to be part of this rewarding program as soon as I stumbled across the website one year ago.

As a result of growing up in a small town like Flagstaff, I do not have many opportunities that will prepare me for the field I am interested in. I have been on a mission to make sure I am constantly involved in the science community. I have mentored kids in math and science at the local middle schools, volunteered as a judge at science fairs, and work with my very successful robotics team spread STEM education throughout Northern Arizona. My experiences have made me into a very persistent and curious person. I am not afraid to ask questions, and do my best so I can be proud of my work. I have successfully taken advanced science courses, which have thoroughly prepared me for the intense work involved this internship. The KEYS internship can be my launchpad for success.

My boyfriend is LDS, and I am not, we have been dating for about 3 months and have actually known each other for a couple years. We are both currently juniors, and are not the type to jump around from relationships and are quiet mature. I care for him ALOT and have very strong feelings. He is my best friend and makes me so happy, I'm one of the only people that understands him. I know you wont take this seriously since you think we are young, but today we were talking about marriage rules in his religion and he said that his parents wanted him to seriously date a LDS person after his mission, and that he wanted to marry in the temple and such. But he did said felt like he would be limiting himself if he dated Mormons only , and he was willing to date outside. Maybe I'm just over reacting but it hurts so much to know, if we ever have a successful relationship that we will never be together in the end. I feel like I'm setting my self for heart break and don't want to do that to myself at a young age in my life. He noticed my change in mood afte the said this, but I was said I was fine. I have never felt like this before about anyone. The reason I feel like this is real is because we can talk for hours and be happy, without the physical affection ( catch my drift) is it normal that I'm scared to stay with him knowing we won't end up together, I don't want to fall in love and we have to go our separate ways. I've had a bad past with parent divorces and siblings, so this may be a contributing factor. Also to add maybe in the future I would be willing to join the church, I like the clean life style and want to learn more, but I don't want to scare him away by getting too serious. For some reason this just hurts me. It hurts to know that he doesn't really consider our relationship serious. I just don't know what to do. I do want to go into medicine maybe that won't fit into his for the future. Thanks.

I'll probably major in neuroscience or biology. I have a 3.8-9ish gpa, and probably a 4.2 weighted gpa. I'm not sure about my sat scores. I actually recieved a B, in ap chemistry this semester, which I hope they over look. How competitive is it to get in the school? How far away from the beach? Does it have good academics? Thanks:)

I took my ap chemistry final today and received a 47%. :( I feel pretty down about this. I completely blanked. However i had a 93.8% in the class before the final and it's worth 20%. My teacher said that was just the raw score and he would curve it a little. Is my A gone?
