  • How can we know which frames are inertial and which arent?

Something I cant get my head around, if we have a simple 1D world, and frame A is accellerating to the right say wrt frame B. Then frame B is accellerating to the left wrt frame A, which one so how can we pick an intertial frame? Does this even make sense, what am I not understanding? I have vaguely heard it mentioned that there is no 'special' stationary frame (sounds reasonable), but then we could pick any frame and say it is inertial and just say every other frame accellerating wrt it is non inertial? how does this all work?

  • Are right wing nut cases proud to congregate here?

First of all, Im not an american, so you must understand, for an outside observer this is pretty amusing sometimes:

Every other thread in the political section seems to be of the form:

so liberals have you realised how **** you are?

so communists, are you proud of (insert non radical left/centre wing politician here) yet?

so socialists, are you happy the country is ruined?

    etc etc.

I dont think im imagining it.

I can think of two possible explainations: 1) this is some kind of political propeganda, spread by the more right inclined parties/politicians. this would hardly surprise me.

    2) there are no more than three people with many accounts posting this rubbish over and over, either because they are very ,ehrr, 'passoinate', completely insane, or have nothing better to do.

I cant for a second believe there are a 'large' populaiton in the USA who actually think like this (although stereotypes do have basis in fact....), or maybe just a disproportionate number of them use yahoo answers.....

    What do you think?

  • Magnetic Property on a data sheet?

I have a data sheet for a ferrite core. It has a table of values, including one which is labled with the symbol mu with a subscript e. It gives a value of 1800.

What is this? is this relative permeability? what is the subscript e? there is no other indication on the datasheet for what it is refering to.

  • An interesting observation about some Australian Birds?

Ive noticed that quite often, a Magpie will be accompanied by a Noisy Miner. The noisy miner will follow it around and nearly always be with it. Not to attack or scare it or anything, it just follows it around, like they are best friends. Ive noticed this in several places, not just once, sometimes a single magpie will be followed by several miners! Any explainations? Anyone else noticed this?

  • Effective way to cook 'Eggplant' (aubergine)?

I like to cook 'eggplant parmigiana': I usually coat the slices of eggplant in egg and breadcrumbs, then fry it in a pan, then put in a dish with sauce/cheese and bake etc. The problem is, its very difficult to fry it nicely: i usually use a blend of oil with a bit of butter, but I cook one side to a nice golden colour, then turn it too cook the other side. The problem is that the eggplant absorbs so much of the oil and butter, the pan ends up too dry to cook the other side to a nice golden/brown. I dont like to add too much more oil, its way too oily then. So whats the secret to getting it right?

  • How does the BOM take their air temperature measurments?

For as long as I've taken my own measurements, I always meausure several degrees above the official readings. I use an electronic thermometer and a regular old alcohol one, and I always get 2 to 3 degrees above the official readings. It cannot be a systematic error due to my thermometers, I've tried many different ones and still the same thing happens. They must be doing something different. Whats the deal?

At the moment, its 5pm and 42 degrees C and still climbing, but my measurements say 44 degrees. Damn its hot.

  • Were can I find the Score for Andre Jolivet's Trumpet Concerto No. 2?

I am looking for the orchestral score for Andre Jolivet's concerto 2 for trumpet. It seems to be impossible to find. This is one of my all time favorite pieces. Surely the score can be found somewhere. To put things in context, I have been looking for this for a couple of years now. I know it must be available, as there are a couple of recordings of it. Please someone tell me they know where to find it!

    Cheers,
