Under what conditions would a rope be mostly likely to break?
a. 20 men of equal strength with 10 pulling on each end.
b. 10 of the same men pulling on one end and the other end being fastened to a tree.
c. It makes no difference
So what cancels out the other 10 men pulling in the 20 man combo? Say each man pulled 200 lbs for 2,000 lbs pull that's pulling against 2,000 lb. pull totaling 4,000 lbs of pull being put on the rope at the center as opposed to just 2,000 lbs with just 10 men pulling. Is it different than 20 men pulling against a tree? Why??
