My husband has no respect for me and very little for himself.?
This is a vent session. Respond if you feel like it.
After an incident in which my husband was charged with domestic violence assault, my husband went to jail for a few days. As a condition of our continued relationship, I said he needed to stop drinking and go to Alcoholics Anonymous. I said I would go too, since I was also drinking heavily at the time.
We both started going to meetings, and I was a bit more gung-ho than he was, but we both picked up chips. He very rarely spoke up in meetings and never met with a sponsor. I could tell he didn't take it very seriously, but as long as he wasn't drinking, I didn't press the issue.
After I picked up my six-month chip, I expressed some doubts to him about AA, specifically about how I wasn't sure I needed to keep going. He admitted to me at that time that he had never stopped drinking. I wasn't all that upset when he said it, but I feel like a ton of bricks just fell on my head today and they all had "YOUR HUSBAND DOES NOT RESPECT YOU" written all over them.
How could he do that to anyone for whom he had the tiniest iota of respect? He assaulted me. I let him back in the house and declined to testify in court because he was attending meetings and "doing well." This only to find out later that he had been lying to me and everyone who was trying to help him.
The divorce papers are ready and saved on my flash drive. Do I have the wherewithal to serve him?
7 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoI am beside myself with worry over this friend.?
My friend took off to a distant city with no job, no place to stay, and no plan. He hasn't contacted the people he said he intends to stay with. I am scared to death he's going to end up dead under a viaduct.
I cannot do a damn thing about any of this, at least not anything that's readily apparent. How do I quit worrying myself sick so I can go on with my own life?
1 AnswerFriends1 decade agoHelp with a new work wardrobe?
I'm transitioning (hopefully-haven't received an offer yet) from an office job to a job running a B&B. My work will involve preparing food, checking guests in and out, and cleaning rooms. My office clothes won't do for the active work, but I need to look presentable for the guests. Suggestions?

1 AnswerHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoModest dress for a jazz vocalist?
I'm going to be performing with a jazz band and I would like to find an appropriate dress, but is has to be modest, i.e. "no pits, ****, or belly buttons." It should come to the knee at a minimum. Thoughts? Please post links of dresses that might be suitable. Peace!
2 AnswersJazz1 decade agoHelp! My kitten is ferocious.?
I have an 8 week old kitten who was found abandoned in a garage at about 3 weeks old. I have bottle fed him and he seems to be healthy and happy, but he likes to play rough. My arms and legs are covered with scratches. He pounces on my face. He picks fights with my other cat (4 years old), who will humor him and wrestle for a while before he goes outside. The vet says he's healthy, and he has plenty of toys to play with. How do I get him to calm down and play nice? Please help soon. I'm running out of Band-Aids.
8 AnswersCats1 decade agoHow do I keep this party alcohol-free?
I'm having an impromptu party tomorrow in a common outdoor space in our neighborhood. There will be food and a fire in the fire pit and generally a good time. This usually draws the neighbors, who are most welcome, but the neighbors invariably come with beer.
The guests at this get-together are the members of my AA group. I would really love to have my neighbors come, but we really can't have alcohol there. Should I give them a heads-up and let them know not to bring booze? How can I do that without breaking everyone's anonymity? What should I do if the neighbors bring alcohol?
8 AnswersEntertaining1 decade agoCraft Fair--How Many Pieces?
I am thinking of entering a craft fair in August. It's sponsored by a well-known local magazine at a well-known downtown venue and should be fairly well attended. It lasts for 12 hours. I make rosaries and prayer bead sets ranging in price from $12 to $200 or more, mostly on the lower end of that scale. What do you think is the minimum number of pieces I should make for the fair? I'm not worried about making too many, because I can put what I don't sell at the fair on my Etsy store. Advice, please...
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoHow To Approach One's Husband about Housework?
My husband doesn't help a lot around the house, but he has adopted one chore, washing dishes, as "his." Unfortunately, he doesn't do a great job at it. He leaves fingerprints, lip marks, and stuck-on bits of food on the dishes and frequently leaves clean dishes in the sink. How would one approach him so he gets the dishes clean without discouraging him so he abandons it completely?

These are some names that I like. Our last name has two syllables and begins with H.
Girls: Genevieve Elisabeth (Gini for short)
Maile Michal (pronounced like Miley McCall)
I also like the name Leigh for girls, but don't know what to combine it with. Suggestions?
Boys: Daniel Lincoln
Daniel Alden
Daniel Rand
Eric Alden
All are family names except Eric, which my hubbin just likes a lot :)
Thanks all!
7 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoHow do you approach your husband about wanting a baby?
My husband and I have been married for about a year and a half. I've always said in jest that I don't want any more kids (I have one 10-year-old son), but I was mostly just saying that because I thought he didn't want kids. Now I want one and don't know how I would talk to him about it. Ideas?
6 AnswersTrying to Conceive1 decade agoAppropriate gift/attire for Quinceanera?
My husband's friend invited us to his daughter's Quinceanera. What should we wear? What should we give her as a gift? Can it be along the same lines as any gift you might give a 15-year-old girl for her birthday, or should it be more religious or special? I crochet, and I was planning on making her a cute hat. Would that be appropriate? Please advise.

2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoWhat do I do with this apartment?
I need some help, since I'm really on the decorating short bus. Where do I start redecorating this awful apatrment? I have never cared before--my apartment has always just been "college student modern"--but I'm starting to get Girl Scout moms coming over and I want to do something! I have brown and tan tile on the floor in my living room, and this crazy greenish paneling on about half the wall that might look weird if we painted it (but it might not). I need to come up with a good color scheme for an area rug (or two), a futon cover and pillows (the futon is honey-colored wood), curtains and a paint color for the wall. Any tips on color schemes or a theme? Tips on painting this paneling? Tips on doing all this on the cheap?

12 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoActivity for Non-Theist Boy?
Hi all,
My son is does not believe in a god, and so Boy Scouts is not the place for him. Does anyone know of a similarly enriching group activity for a 9-year-old? Does anyone have non-theist experience with 4-H or Roots & Shoots?
