  • Rocketmail address asks for SMS confirmation?

I have an email address that I created before every new account needed SMS confirmation. I have the correct password, and it starts to log in, but stops and asks for a number to receive a confirmation code. I do not own a cell phone and never added one to the account. How would it help confirm my identity if I have never attached a number to the account in question? If someone else had my password they could use their own number to "confirm" and then log into the account. It seems like discrimination to have my address locked due to a requirement that was added long after I created it.

  • AMD 7950 3GB VS R9-270X 2GB which is better?

Long story short, I have been holding off on upgrades for my PC because I wanted to get the best value for my money. I'm trying to get something that will perform well now, and still be a decent card for the next year or two. The only Information I have got so far is along the lines of:

"The 270x is a re-badged 7870 GHZ with only slight improvements, therefore the 7950 is better"

"No, it is a re-badged 7950 with more efficient architecture and optimizations for newer games, so it should be slightly faster than the 7950."

There is also contradictory information regarding whether or not the 7000 series will support the new Mantle API. Some say all GCN cards support it, others say only the R9 series will. Today I saw a His IceQ 7950 3GB for $195 and $180 after rebate which has since been completely sold out and went to over $300 now.

I'm starting to wonder if I should have just bought the 7950 since it seemed like a really great deal.

This site shows a comparison of each GPU's specifications.http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1898&...

The 270x toxic edition has a much higher memory frequency, but the 7950 has a significantly higher memory bandwidth. The 7950 has the higher texture rate, the 270x has the higher pixel rate.

On most every part of the comparison the 7950 is the clear winner.

Benchmarks seem to tell a different story. Here's an example in this BF3 benchmark, the Toxic edition 270x gets a few more frames than the 7950 3GB with boost http://www.legitreviews.com/amd-radeon-r9-270x-sap...

On other games that they tested, the 7950 pulls ahead a little, but when it's only ~2 frames it can just be the "margin of error."

Overall it's becoming a very frustrating experience stressing over which card to buy. I really don't want to spend much more than $200 on a graphics card, although I want to make sure I'm getting the best bang for the buck. I don't want to be stick with the inferior version for the foreseeable future.

  • Is it possible to get a refund from amazon if the price drops after ordering?

I tried asking this question on amazon ask ville, but no one responded yet, amazon customer support will probably take at least 3 days to respond so in the mean time I though I would ask here.

Yesterday I ordered an item from Amazon, the price at the time was $24.99. The item was sold by amazon and not a 3rd party seller. A short time after completing the purchase, the price dropped to $19.99. As of now the item has not shipped, I don't like the idea of trying to cancel and re order because there's no guarantee that the order will cancel since it's already processing.

Essentially what I am trying to find out is, can I be reimbursed or credited in some way the difference in the price, because it changed almost immediately after the order was completed.

  • What are some recent Multiplayer FPS games that are similar to Halo 1, 2 and 3?

The reason I am asking this is because I used to enjoy gaming but I do not have any fun with any fps game I have tried recently, I am thinking of giving up on gaming or at least fps if I can't find something I like. Halo is what got me into FPS and instantly became one of my favorite games because the gameplay just felt right. It had skill based match making, good pacing, encouraged gun skill, discouraged camping, did not have bs killstreaks that ruin the flow of the game among many other things which I don't have the room to go in depth about. Ever since call of duty gained a vast majority following of casual players and Halo 3 lost that market after MW2 was released, the quality of all shooters decreased because they were altered to be similar to call of duty, even Halo changed, starting with halo reach.

Most games are near carbon copies of CoD because the style of gameplay draws in the masses of casual players who benefit from the "noob friendliness".

I just hate how most fps games now promote camping, have very low skill gaps, extremely fast kill times, a "perk" system, killstreaks (which further encourage camping) and instant respawns which cause a lot of problems with where players spawn. Another thing that frustrates me is "Lag compensation" which I like to call Lag "overcompensation" which only sounds good on paper, because what it actually does is give players with high pings (100ms and over) to the host an advantage which is much greater than their ping, sometimes they get as much as a whole second of compensation when their latency is less than a 1/5 of a second.

So in short, what I am looking for is an FPS game with a reasonable amount of players that has some sort of truskill or a similar system, which discourages camping, requires you to have a good aim, forces a respawn time, doesn't punish you for having a good connection, but still is fair to players with not so great of a connection. Preferably on PC, I would also like to know about any games on PS3 or upcoming on PS4 because I have been thinking about switching to playstation. I'm not too interested in Xbox games because I have grown tired of paying $60 a year for features that are done better on PC and are also free.

  • Do you still need to be 18 to buy M rated games at gamestop?

I'm just wondering because I don't go to Gamestop but a few times a year and don't really know much about their current policies but I'm thinking about getting Black Ops 2 because I can get it under $20 with a trade in.

The game is 17+ so I don't see why they wouldn't let me buy it, but I've seen people get harassed for Id to prove they are 18 to buy M games even though you could tell they were in their 20's

I don't want to go to Gamestop to find out that they won't sell it to me.

They already have my date of birth from my PowerUp Rewards account.

I know about the parental presence allowing you to buy it but I most likely won't be able to have a parent with me. (Is it even needed if you are 17?)

I will appreciate it if I can get a definite answer, (I can't call them and ask because they are closed)

    Thanks

  • Can overclocking cause damage if you don't increase voltage?

Pretty much what the title says, I am going to try overclocking my CPU by increasing the bus speed by 5 at a time to see how high it can go without a voltage increase.

But if I reach the point where it doesn't get enough power for the overclock, can it damage it?

If it doesn't post can the cmos simply be reset to get back up and running again?

  • Which exhaust direction is better for a CPU cooler?

I am in the process of building a PC and am about to install a hyper 212 plus.

I am aware that the fan needs to be blowing air through the fins of the heatsink, so that leaves two sensible ways: #1 Fan the facing down and blowing air through the top because "heat rises" or

#2: Fan facing right, towards the RAM and blowing out the back exhaust.

If it matters, the power supply is a bottom mount and I have two 120mm fans on the front, one on the bottom, and one on the back of the case.

I am getting no where looking for answers on tomshardware and overclock.net because its just back and forth conflicting opinions.

The most definitive answer I have read is that its better to have it facing the RAM because if you have it facing down, the GPU affects the airflow and its better to have it facing the RAM because theres cool air being blown in it's direction.

If anyone is also using a Hyper 212+, which direction do you have it facing and what kind of results do you get?

  • Is the Corsair CX600 V2 a good power supply?

I am in the process of selecting parts for a pc I am building and I am having a hard time finding one that fits my budget. (less than $50)

As of right now the CX600 is the only option, there was a 600W OCZ psu on NCIX for $40 but it sold out before I had a chance to get one.

Basically, I'm looking for a PSU that is relatively quiet, power efficient and will last at least 3 years.

If you have this power supply I would like your opinion on it.

  • What is the best AM3+ for around $100 or less?

I am looking for a decent budget motherboard to use with a Phenom II 955 C3 95w, that will allow me to overclock it to 3.6GHz or more (its a locked multiplier) and support an upgrade to a CPU such as the FX-8350 or a "steamroller" cpu later on.

The one I have been thinking about are the MSI 970A-G46 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

Mostly because It has ALC892 audio. It also claims to have PCI-E x16 GEN 3, on the box which I thought was impossible on AM3+ boards, because absolutely no one but MSi claims they have it.

But I've read about the CPU and voltage regulator overheating. I cannot seem to find the forum that I read, but anyway, a few people said that it was exceeding 80c under load.

Even though I haven't seen any proof of that it makes me not want to get it.

Also, almost everyone that complained about the MSI board suggested this ASUS board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

I saw this one before, but disregarded it because of the integrated audio only being realtek 887 instead of 892. Even the motherboard in my old dell inspiron 530 from 2008 has alc 888 and It doesn't sound all that great to me even compared to another motherboard with ALC 888-S.

Having the best integrated audio is important because I am beginning to work with fl studio and want it to to sound as good as possible and don't want to put up with the hassle of overpriced creative cards that are known to have driver issues in x64 windows and cause interference with graphics cards. Or the cheap basic cards that do not guarantee to be better than integrated and also hog even more resources than integrated.

If there is something better, suggest it to me because I cannot seem to find any good AMD motherboards right now. I feel like going intel, which I would if I had the money, but I don't so I'm sticking with my Phenom II cpu I already have I'm also trying to get My pc built before Crysis 3 comes out, and I cannot just "save up" for Intel because I will be lucky if I can afford it as it is because so far I only have, Case, RAM and CPU, and have a budget of less than $600 to complete the build. The the graphics card, PSU, HDD, DVD and Windows, is probably going to be a minimum of $450 of that.

  • Windows 8 Release Preview x64 will not boot?

I downloaded the 64 bit release preview from this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/downl... and burned it to a DVD-RW (is that the problem?) After installation, my PC restarts and then gets stuck on the windows boot screen and will just hang there until I press and hold the power button to shut it down. Upon the next boot it will hang there on the boot screen without the animation for about 5 minutes and then go back to the install screen I tried going to repair computer and it said windows failed to initialize and gave a list of options like debugging and safe mode none of which got past the boot screen either. (Trying to install it again and it the exact same process happened.

It is installed on a new partion (letter k)

    My specs are:

    Hp pavilion P6310F

    Motherboard - ASUS/PEGATRON M2N78-LA (VIOLET 6) Newest bios revision 5.16

    CPU - AMD Athlon II x4 630 2.8ghz

    RAM - 6GB (3x2) DDR3

Video - Sapphire Radeon 5570 - Upgraded from onboard Geforce 9100

HDD - WD Caviar Green WD10EADS

Power supply - Bestec 300w non modular.

    DVD Drive - HP TS-H653R

    Intergrated Realtek HD audio

I know for a fact that none of my hardware is malfunctioning because I am posting this question from the same computer except on the Windows 7 from the primary C pation.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Phenom II 955 x4 95W version?

I have an old M2N78-LA (VIOLET 6) HP OEM Motherboard which only supports up to 95 watt deneb phenoms And I will be stuck with for a while but need to upgrade my athlon II 630, so I have been looking for a new cpu. When I found out that there was going to be a 95w version of the Phenom II 955 I held off on buying a 945 or 840 and waited for it but it never was available. Long story short I just looked up the 955 on newegg and found an OEM version that says it's 95w.

It should work on my motherboard

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

I remember that the number HDX955WFK4DGM was the 95w version but

Is this newegg link a mistake and its actually the 125w version? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    Any input will be appreciated.

  • Would a Pentium 4 651 be much faster than a celeron 440?

I have an old dell computer with a socket 775 motherboard which currently has a celeron 440 2.0 ghz Conroe-L installed

I just use it with windows XP for older games/programs that aren't compatible with Vista/7 (Pretty much just single threaded things)

I just want to get better overall performance and don't want to spend much money on it.

So I thought a Pentium 4 Cedar Mill 3.4ghz with hyper threading would be a great upgrade for just 20$

But something that confused me was a site I found with benchmark scores and it gives a better score to celeron 440 than Pentium 3.4 ghz. Link below

    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

That doesn't really make sense to me because they are both 65nm processors but the P4 has a much higher clock speed, 2mb of l2 cache and hyper threading. The celeron only has 512k of l2 cache. And I have always heard that celeron are the worst processors ever made and perform worse than their pentium counterparts even at the same frequency.

So why would the site show the celeron as being better? Are there versions of the P4 that are allot slower?

Any help will be appreciated I just want to make sure that I'll actually be upgrading the CPU and not spending money to get slightly slower performance.

And yes, I know neither that processor is much good by today's standards and I could upgrade to a core2duo but for what I use the computer for it would never be worth it. And I already have a much better pc but I use my old one for reasons stated above.

  • Tips for building my own PC?

I'm a first time builder saving up money for a new computer and would like some tips and hardware suggestions for a budget <600$, but be upgradable when necessary.

I mainly use my computer for Video/photo/sound editing, watching videos, listening to music, Internet of course and some gaming.

I do allot of file converting, compression and rendering so a 6 or 8 core processor would probably be the best option but I'm not willing to pay over 250$ for just a processor.

What type of ram should I get? Is there a huge difference between 1333mhz 1600 and 1866 and is triple or quad channel memory worth the extra cost over dual channel?

And for a motherboard I would like something somewhat future proof that has decent intergrated graphics/sound (I will get dedicated later) and is completely upgradable with dual GPU support and plenty of PCI slots for sound cards and the like, but also be from a company that makes high quality parts and has a good warranty.

For storage, would the best option to get a small ssd like a 64GB as a primary for just windows and a few essential programs with a Standard 7200 rpm for most other programs and files?

Would a raid setup with 10k or 15k rpm drives be better or is it not worth it?

What kind of case should I get since I'm on a budget? I plan on using just air cooling and I want a case that has good fans in it. Also can you trust the power supply that comes with the case or is it best to just buy one.

Just a few more simple questions

Is a PCI NIC worth the price over the onboard LAN, does it have better latency when playing online games?

Are Intel processors worth getting over AMD for people who are on a budget?

AMD Radeon vs Nvidia Geforce which is better overall and why?

And for windows, what version would be the best for me? Is the home edition good enough? I've been using windows 7 home for a while now and haven't found anything I could not do. What would I be missing out on over pro or ultimate?

Also I am not going to do this right away I'm thinking maybe early next year (whenever hard drive prices go down) so if there are some good processors coming out in early 2012, besides 2nd generation amd bulldozer I would like to now about them.

All help will be appreciated. You don't have to answer all of the questions, just the ones you can.

  • What is the best gaming monitor?

I have an xbox 360, and need a monitor that has minimal lag or distortion a.k.a motion blur. I have a 32" lcd tv that has 8 ms response but its not the best as i get headaches from the major distortion

Anyways, a 20-23 inch monitor for less than 200$ is what i'm looking for

here are some that i found:

    Asus 22" 2ms 166.99$

    http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VW224U-22-Inch-Widescre...

    it's 16:10 wouldn't that cause overscan?

    acer 23" 5ms 175$

    http://www.amazon.com/Acer-X233H-bid-23-Inch-Monit...

same one as i'm using on my computer, it has no visible lag on pc games.. but would it any different on a game console?

    viewsonic 22" 5 ms 169$

    http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VA2232WM-22-Inch-W...

I don't know much about the specs besides response time and contrast ratio. It would be nice if someone could explain if they are any good, which one is best, and why.

  • Is mw2 just completely broken?

had the game for 3 days and so far all i get are matches where someone already has 1000+ points in free for all and being penalized for a loss because i couldn't get 30 kills before they got 10

countless nuke boosters, unbelievable lag: my character froze in place and started spinning the crosshair all over the place until the server timed out, i've emptied a clip on someone to just have them turn around and kill me in one shot, the kill cam just shows me doing nothing.

The game is just unfair, why should a beginner keep getting matched up with level 70 prestige's that have been playing since the game came out? and why should they have the over powered weapons that take no skill while the newbs have hardly anything?

Is this what call of duty is like? if so then i think i'm going back to halo, a game that is actually balanced, fun and, fair. You cod fanboys can flame all you want, but all you are going to do is make yourself look stupid
