If an already dissolved substances decreases in solubility from a factor, will it form a precipitate?
This is probably a really stupid question, but I just want to make sure.
So say that element X dissolves in water readily at room temperature, but it's solubility decreases at higher temperatures. So if I completely dissolve 5 grams of element X in water at room temperature and then heat the container, will a precipitate form or will it remain completely dissolved?
1 AnswerChemistry8 years agoDo you think young love truly exists?
It's obvious that lately younger and younger kids are tossing around the word "love" like it was just a trivial observation, but do you think the concept of "young love" still exists? Lately I've been seeing kids as young as 9-10 getting a girlfriend/boyfriend on the playground, claiming that they're in love, and then breaking up a week later. While it might be passed off as cute from a watching adult, the implications are that relationships no longer have a meaning. If you can pass through a boyfriend/girlfriend every other week, what does any of it mean to you besides a game of lust and popularity? But I digress.
So tell me, with love meaning practically nothing to tweens, teenagers, and even some new adults, do you think young love still exists? The concept of finding your true love at such an early age, is that plausible? I would think not, you're far too tender of age to be making any sort of decision on who you want to be with for the rest of your life. As far as I'm concerned, every instance of "young love" is lust and hormones- nothing more.
But enough about what I think, what about you?
4 AnswersPolls & Surveys8 years agoWhy is England/Scotland not on the map? Are they not true countries?
On Google Maps, there is only a marker for the United Kingdom, but not England or Scotland. It's also very difficult to tell where the border is. Why is this exactly? Are they not true countries, but just a part of the UK? If so, could England and Scotland be counted as states/provinces of the UK?
3 AnswersGeography8 years agoIs "prefix-slash-root word" proper english?
I often see things like "in/famous" where you have a prefix followed by a slash and then the root word, indicating that both the root word and the word with the prefix are applicable, depending on the reader. For example, you might see the sentence "The in/famous pair toured Paris for two weeks." meaning that it was the reader's personal belief if the pair was famous or infamous.
My question was if this sort of writing was considered proper english or not. Could I use it on an essay?
4 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoShould I use a colon, semi-colon, or a comma?
If I wanted to create a sentence like
"The question is[] are you ready for it?"
should I put a colon, semicolon, or comma after "is" when I ask the question itself?
Thanks in advance.
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay9 years agoVery very easy logarithm question?
If you're doing a problem like:
4lnx-ln^4=0
(solve for x)
where you get 1=1 for an answer, what is the value of x? Obviously the problem is a true statement, but you are supposed to be finding the value of x, not checking the statement's validity. Is teh answer 1? Thanks in advance!
1 AnswerHomework Help9 years agoWalking belt on treadmill slips under pressure?
I have a pro-form 775 EKG treadmill and recently the walking belt has been slipping when someone walks on it. If I turn the machine on and start it, the belt runs fine, but as soon as someone steps on it, it slips momentarily. When I walk, the belt will stop for half a second with every step, which throws me off balance. I've already tried tightening the belt with the given tool, but it still slips. Any ideas why and/or how to fix it?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoModel exponential growth in an equation?
A teacher is offered $32,000 for a job and a 4.5% raise every year, meaning he gets 32,000 to start and 4.5% of that as a raise for the next year, then 4.5% of that for the next year and so on.
I haven't taken pre-calculus (I think?) yet, so I don't really know how to model this in an equation yet. If possible, it should be calculator friendly, as I need to find its intersection with another linear equation. Thanks!
2 AnswersHomework Help9 years agoThe half life of Carbon-14 is 5730 years, how many years would it take for 7/8 of the original amount to decay?
The half life of Carbon-14 is 5730 years, how many years would it take for 7/8 of the original amount to decay?
Can somebody please help with this problem. I *think* I understand the basics of what a half life is. If I learned correctly, its the amount it takes for half of a sample to decay. It should also happen exponentially, 1/2 remaining after one half life, 1/4 after the second, 1/16 after the third etc. I'm still a little shaky though. Could somebody please clarify what exactly a half life is and how it can be determined (i.e. how to find the time it would take for 7/8 to decay)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
2 AnswersChemistry9 years agoHow do covalent bonds work?
I understand that it involves two atoms sharing an electron, but how do they share it? Does it alternately spin around the orbitals? Does it encompass both in a huge electron shell? Does it create its own charge in between them? Please, any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoWhy are television timings written backward?
This question has been in the back of my head for quite a while. For example, I'll come across a show that will playing on Tuesday 5/4 central. What does this mean? I assume that central would be the time zone, but why 5\4? shouldn't it be 4/5 (as in four o'clock to five o'clock?). Correct me if I'm wrong, as I still don't know what time the show is actually on.
2 AnswersOther - Games & Recreation10 years agoHow would you describe colors to a blind person?
Tricky question that technically has no answer. So be creative. Write your favorite color (or as many as you wish) below and how you would describe it to someone who has been blind from birth.
6 AnswersPolls & Surveys10 years agoDangerous to use silicone caulk for faucet?
My kitchen faucet has been leaking from the seam and today I thought I'd reseal it with some silicone caulk I had lying around. Reading the label though, I found out that it was very dangerous to ingest or even come in contact with skin. So my question is. Is it safe to seal the seam with. It is waterproof and maybe it wouldn't be as dangerous after it fully cured. Any thought are very much appreciated.
8 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 years agoRoster notation {-2,-4,-6,-8...} to set builder notation?
Just this quick little problem. I was unsure whether it was possible or not. In roster notation, the set is all even negative integers less than two (going to infinity). Convert this set to roster notation. Is it possible? If so, please explain (your answer and such). Thanks.

3 AnswersHomework Help10 years agoWater heater randomly stops working.?
Our water heater was working fine until about an hour ago when it randomly shut off. Water still runs but you try to turn on hot water, only cold water comes out. Our water heater is oil powered, so I checked if we might have run out of oil, but the tank is halfway full and home heating still works. The water heater in question hasn't been serviced in several years. Please help!
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoMy cockatiel has a problem with his right wing. Sprain? Muscle pulled?
My three year old cockatiel was perfectly fine yesterday. Today when I took him out for a flight, he fell downwards and crashed into the wall. Picking him up, I realized that he was holding his right wing away from his body. He is normally a very strong flier, and is able to fly around for several minutes without tiring. There is no bleeding, and he is able to preen it, but he is still tucking it away from his body and screaming in pain. I can't take him to an Avian vet because the nearest one is a couple hours away. I have normally cured all his problems at home(blood feather, bleeding, etc.) but I am unsure what the problem is. Help!
3 AnswersBirds1 decade agof I ground a charge to a piece of metal, will it shock me if I touch it?
I was going to open up a CRT monitor. However, the I learned of the Anode Cap (The one that goes BOOM! if you touch it). So to discharge it, someone told me to connect one end of an alligator clip to the metal part of an insulated screwdriver, and then connect the other end to the monitor casing, which is made of metal. Then I should slip the end of the screwdriver under the anode. If I do this, and touch the casing, will it shock me? Also, please share any other ways you have to discharge an anode. The particular monitor I am using is a Compaq one from 1998 or so.
