I'm a pretty bad person, actually.
Jointed stirrups? Back, hip, knee pain!?
I'm not sure what to do anymore. I compete in showjumping - and due to injuries and wear and tear related to riding, I'm having bad back, knee, and hip(only my left, not both) pain. This has been ongoing - and I haven't had a recent fall or accident. I've been seeing a chiropractor and massage therapist(deep tissue - ouch) for 3x a week for almost a year now, I work out 6x a week in addition to my riding schedule - - my doctor has told me to keep doing this and reccomended lots of yoga and swimming. My back and knees hurt so bad when I ride, especially when jumping and working in two point - my left hip hurts when I walk or run. I always end up taking an above-average amount of painkillers - especially before my riding lessons.
I've heard mixed reviews about jointed stirrups - but I'm curious if they could help? Or will they make things worse? I've always used regular irons - and my trainer hates the jointed ones, but wouldn't oppose me using them.
I'm only just turning 18, and am in good health otherwise - but my knees, back and hip make me feel like I'm 75! Should I be getting x-rays or exams on different conditions?
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoAffordable barns that are reasonably close to NYC - do they exist?
I'm only just exploring this option..is this even a possibility? I'm willing to try and be as flexible as possible..but I'd be looking for somewhere that offered quality care for below 600 dollars a month that is no more than 45 minutes away from NYC.
Come August-September 2010 - I am moving to Brooklyn for school. I'll be enrolling full-time in the Spring semester(Jan). In addition to this, I'll be working full-time, and paying for my own rent, groceries, etc.
My parents are covering school, and they are going to continue paying for my horse - who we were going to look to lease out. While I am not outrageously far from NYC(about an hour and a half) - I'd love to see if I could find something closer, and try and half lease him out. The school I'm attending does not have an equestrian team or anything to reference.
Being that I've been riding for 12 consecutive years without more than a 2 week hiatus, I'm pretty convinced that I'll go insane fairly quick if I can't atleast get a weekly fix. Ideally, I'd like a 3x weekly fix, on my own horse, while a responsible individual rode the other 3 days.
1 AnswerHorses1 decade agoNationality/origin of the surname Demish?
This was my mother's maiden name - I'm Italian and Hungarian(on my mother's side) - my grandfather was very Hungarian and died before I was born, so I'm not sure if he had anything else in him.
I was wondering if someone could tell me the meaning or origin of the name?
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoIf you were deciding the soundtrack to your movie or life....?
What would be a few key songs in it?
For instance

What are some songs you'd include in your soundtrack and for when?
2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoWhat song is this? Googling didn't work..?
This is a repost from yesterday, just looking for new answers!
Friend burned a CD for me about a year ago, had some kick-*** songs on it, and it had the name of the song and artist on the CD. She lives in San Diego(all the way on the other side of the country from me) and likes the local music scene, so a lot of it was from around there..
Luckily for me, the car the CD was in got totaled in an accident and impounded. The insurance company did NOT mail my CD. Now it's suddenly stuck in my head again =( - it's alternative rock, two male voices are singing throughout it. Any help would be appreciated. Google did not work.
Part of the chorus went;
'Feet stay off the ground
Insects fly around
I wish I could tell you
I wish I could tell you
Just what's going down(or going on?)
1 AnswerLyrics1 decade agoWhat the name of this song - I've already tried googling it!?

1 AnswerLyrics1 decade agoBest supplement to prevent ulcers?
I'm looking for a pelleted supplement, specifically. Just something for a little extra insurance against ulcers for a horse that's in a fairly high-stress enviroment(training, competition). He does not have ulcers, I'm just looking for a daily preventative.
My trainer likes U-Guard pellets, but I was wondering if there were other options that people preferred?
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat can you tell me about these saddle brands?
My horse finally outgrew my medium saddle, and I am in the market for a high quality, used saddle that is 1000 dollars or less. I have a spare Wintec close contact that I can use in the meantime, but I'd really prefer a higher quality leather brand - but I do have time to hunt a little bit. I'm close to a number of tack stores, including a Dover and a Beval...so I was planning to pay close attention to what was coming through their consignment - I have never gotten a saddle through either, and was wondering if they sent used saddles on trial? If anyone knows?
Anyway, here are the brands I was mainly interested in - any feedback is appreciated as well as suggestions. I'm only interested in Close Contact - but I have to do a significant amount of flatwork in it, too..so I need to bear that in mind.
http://www.beval.com/Products/Salem-Saddle/1475000...
not sure if I really like that it's an 'Argentine' saddle...I'm concerned with how light the leather is, but it looks like if the leather took oil that it would turn into a really nice color..
http://www.beval.com/Products/Stamford/1465002.asp...
It's 950 new...and I'm not so sure of the quality..
http://www.beval.com/Products/Gladstone/1470002.as...
Again, only a little over 1000 new, and not so sure of the quality.
Butet, of any sort - Is it realistic to even try to find a used one for under a grand? I've heard that they were a little heavier too..but my current saddle is a little heavy as well.

Obviously, I'd like to see if I could find it used..
Suggestions?
1 AnswerHorses1 decade agoFlower plants that are good for growing inside?
I'm not a super experienced gardner outside of planting a few flowers outside, and I don't have much of a desire to deal with super high-maintenance plants that need extra resources(I know Roses, for instance, are hard to grow indoors) - but I love the smell and look of flowers. I have to full windows in my rooms with window-sills, and there is a lot of natural light in my room - plus a table near one of the windows. I was wondering if it was really practical(and relatively neat..I don't want soil or anything everywhere - but I don't mind having to clean it up every once in a while) to want to grow small potted plants(ideally flowers - something pretty and fragrant?) inside?
If so, can you point me to some practical plants, potting arrangments, and just tips in general? Thanks so much!
3 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoShould I see Bruno tonight?
Me and some friends may or may not go to the movies tonight.
Is Bruno good?
I'm not shocked easily, don't mind nudity or profanity, and found Borat funny - do you think I'd like it?
1 AnswerMovies1 decade agoWhen to tell my friend I'm moving away?(kind of longwinded, sorry)?
I'm about to enter my last year of highschool, the following autumn I am moving to Brooklyn to work full time, and then enroll in the spring term at college. I don't live ridiculously far from NY as it is - an hour and a half(provided traffic isn't retarded).
I've told a select few people about it. Recently, my parents. This is kind of a 'get out or I'm going to go insane and end up homicidal' type of deal, I personally feel like I have no other option other than going somewhere either very far, or very different. So it is definite. The time may change slightly(we're talking give or take a month), but I am 100% positive I am going.
My issue is a few of my close friends. Particularly one. She is perfectly content to stay, is attending local college, and is eager to rent out a place to live with me and a few other people. Obviously, we're different types of people - I'm pretty confident I'd need heavy medication to keep me in the general area any longer than I need to be. She doesn't want to go anywhere - much less a crowded, expensive, dirty city.
She'd be hurt if I just dropped everything and abandoned her and everything - so I've been avoiding the subject, but I know I'll have to tell her sooner or later.
I have a number of OTHER commitments to take care of(I ride and show horses competitively, and own a horse, who's living arrangements I am trying to sort out without selling him - my parents have spent a lot of money, my coach has put in a lot of effort, and she's going to be very disappointed when I tell her I'm going to have to take a long hiatus), and I know I can't just drop everything and run away - but there are so many people and things that I feel obligated to that it's intimidating to think of.
I feel selfish for leaving, but at the same time...whenever my friend talks about 'the future' and I associate it with 'this place', I want to rip my eyes out.
SO. suggestions?
3 AnswersFriends1 decade agoWill my license get suspended?
Cross-posted from another category.
Here are the details ;
I'm 17, and was pulled over for speeding the other night - it was my first ticket.
I was going 96 in a 55(and honestly, I'm not pissed off at the officer for giving me a citation - considering the speed.)
Despite my initial stupidity, everything else was in order(insurance, registration, etc, etc)
I am supposed to mail in the citation and enter a guilty or not guilty plea(obviously, I'm going to just plead guilty).
The state is PA, as of now, there are no points on my license, and the officer only said that if I didn't mail in the citation form my license would be suspended.
I'm wondering if anyone can guess the likely outcome of this situation? If my license will be suspended, how long, suggestions as to what I can do from here? Thanks in advance!
4 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoWill my lisence get suspended?
I'm 17, and last night I just got my first speeding ticket - unfortunately I was stupidly going fast enough that the officer felt the need to immediately issue a 200 dollar citation.
I'm supposed to mail in the citation and plead guilty or not guilty, I'm obviously planning to plead guilty, and expecting to acquire points on my license.
I'm wondering if anyone has any idea if my license will be suspended, and for how long? Thanks in advance.
