My 5 year old has suddenly shown a huge interest in computers and learning on the computer. I am looking for suggestions of websites, or download-able software games. Id prefer to use a software game since she is a beginner and its so easy to task away from the page you are supposed to be on. She is in kindergarten, so spelling games, number games, and identifying keys on the keyboard games. Thanks so much!

My child just started kindergarten and we have a book log that we have to keep up with and read a minimum of 15 minutes a day. Since she is just learning to read, I have been reading the stories to her and i can read up to 2-3 books a night at this rate.. and since the book club asks to read and document new books each time, that is a lot of books!

So parents, what books do you know of that are good for lengthy reading to read to your child, but are still interesting and grasps their attention?

What books are your favorite for teaching THEM how to read.

Do you know of any great websites with great book prices? I looked through scholastic, and even though they are cheaper than in-store, they are still expensive if you go through as many books as we do! I'd love to find all of those 'off-the-wall' fun novels that parents love reading to their children. My favorites so far are the 'Khol's cares' foundation book collection, but they aren't very long and aren't great for beginner readers!

Also, do you know of any great read along programs/software for the iPad, or books with read along features? My child has the Innotab 2 which is compatible for read along, but i haven't found the right disks for the Innotab to do the read along.

So, I have had a little bit of experience will Excel.. but I am wanting to make a reading book log for my child for school. they have to read a minimum of 15 minutes a day and have different books.. what i am trying to figure out is how to enter the data correctly with the fields of "date", "book title", "amount of time read", and then have it auto sum the amount of time read at the end of the month. Someone please explain! I have been manually writing it down, and her teacher said excel is a much easier way to keep track!

I am making PowerPoints and have already realized that the MB size will be larger for photos that are copied and pasted instead of saving the cropped pictures first and then putting them on the slide. Does font size, like reducing it from 18 to 12 make a dramatic decrease in MB size? I would test this theory, but that's a waste of time if it doesn't since i am just trying to reduce MB size in order to send them to class mates and then study from them. Any other pointers are very helpful and appreciated.. I am making slides for biology, and I will have a long semester of working with PowerPoint. I am putting the definitions, and relative information on the actual slides with the pictures. would it make a different if I put the definitions and relative information in the comment box? would that decrease the size of the GB. but, then if I put the text information in the comment box instead of on the PP slide, i would have to have many more slides since I use 1 slides for 2 definitions and 2 pictures at the moment. anyways, any information would be awesome!

So, I did the update on my iPad 2, and it deleted the YouTube app. AND now the Apple app store does not even have an option to download a free or purchasable YouTube app! I did a little research and found out that the Apple internet Operating System (iOS) no longer supports YouTube. I am amazed since YouTube is one of the 2 favorite apps on the iPad. Does anyone know of a way to get it on the iOS 6.0 iPad 2, or of an app that is somewhat comparable to YouTube. Do the newer versions of the iPad offer it? Is this a way to get people to go and purchase the new iPads? I am mostly upset because my boyfriend uses it to watch fishing videos that aren't really available anywhere else. And I cannot pull up many videos through Google/safari because they are no longer compatible to watch.. :(

I had my child when I was 16 years old.. I have always been the type to want to be part of mom groups in my area, such as stroller groups, park play dates.. and so on. I have had no issue with having mom friends that are close to my age, but there seems to be a road block when it comes to meeting older mothers. I am not sure if older mothers really do pitty me, or think badly of me that I am a young mom. So, moms out there.. if our children were in elementary school together and I introduced myself and offered to have a play date at the local park, or exchange numbers so that out children can be friends, would you be hesitant because I am younger than you. I do not want my own insecurities or misconceptions of myself and others to effect my daughter and deprive her of quality friendships with children outside of school.. I just do not know how to go about making acquaintances with the older, married, stable type of moms that have children in my daughters class.

My daughter attends gymnastics at a very competitive gym, and I'd like to set up a small (emphasis on small) gym/stretching area at home for her. I would like to buy a trampoline with all of the safety equipment. Those who have bought trampolines for the purpose of gymnastics, cheer, and tumbling, which one on the market seems to be the best as far as price, usefulness, and so on. I know there are different types- and there may even be one specifically for tumbling? Also, does anyone know where to buy the blue fold out mats that have 4 rectangular mats connected (specifically for tumbling). They also have mats that show the hand prints and foot prints to teach them the cart wheel posture. I have also seen the octagon shaped wheels that are for teaching the posture of a bridge or back flip. Do places sell these items to individual vendors? Also, which line of gymnastics clothes to you recommend for elementary school age children. I started out buying "GK Elite" Leotards, but 75 dollars for a leotard and cover-up shorts is a little extreme (or maybe its not, if they are durable).

Any other information over nicknack's, great gym related businesses, or personal experience is greatly appreciated.

I bought a new Toshiba computer about a month ago and my computer is already running extremely slow in Firefox. When I bought my computer, it had a trial of Norton. The Geek Squad told me to uninstall the Trial before installing the new Norton, so I did. I just noticed that my computer also has McAfee security scan. Is this bad or good for my computer system? should I only use one and delete the other, or do they serve their own purposes. Also my computer came with google chrome, but i downloaded firefox.. and firefox runs so slowly (but i need it for my school system). Do these security scan softwares work better for one of these internet communities? I have kept my computer up-to-date on all of the software, internet updates, and so on.. so I am not sure why my computer runs so slowly!

Today, all of a sudden, an HP Microsoft message popped up on my television in my bedroom. The message had a blue background and white lettering that stated a long error code that there was an issue with the HP microsoft, exactly like the kind that would pop up if there was an error issue on a laptop, such as a virus. Then, it started downloading a computer screen with a black background and icons, and i could see the mouse arrow on the screen. Then the t.v. started going crazy making a static noise, and then it shut off and my cable box came back on. Mind you, i have no internet cables, or computer programs, or any gaming consoles hooked up to my t.v. My t.v. does not have any type of hp microsoft software built in. The cable box was also off during the incident, and the setting was on video 6, which is not the setting I would use to even hook up a computer. I called a friend of mine who worked for the cable company, and he said he has never seen or heard of such a thing. Does anyone know what this could be? Could I be dealing with some sort of hacker? We know someone who has been in our home, and we have feared them downloading tracking devices on cell phones, and computers, and even home phone lines... but i never thought a t.v. could have a tracker? and if so, why?

I have always used Norton, and my subscription has expired so I am renewing. When I clicked on buying the one year package for Norton 360 version 6.0, it offered me add-on software deals that are not included in the standard package cost, but are supposedly 70% off because I am a returning user. These extras are: boost the performance of your computer ($10), Let a Norton service technician keep your PC running smoothly ($10), and "Protect your personal information in the event of loss or theft ($15)".

My questions are: Is there a package that offers all of these things so I am not having to pay them separately? Are the extras important and worth it? The first add on is to speed up the computer and all that good stuff, but I thought Norton 360 already has this software capability added in? And for the second add on, it seems that this is just another form to speed up the computer. For the third add on, how many of you REALLY use the anti-theft software on Norton?

I am in the process of buying new vacuums for my house. I would like to know of an affordable brand that is reliable, light weight, and is overall good for deep cleaning. I would like one that has a long hose and has the bucket dispenser instead of a vacuum bag. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Suppose a professor announces "Some day this term, there will be a surprise quiz." And suppose a few students reason as follows. The quiz can't be given on the last day of the term because if it hadn't been given before then, it would have to be given on that last day - - in which case they'd expect it and it wouldn't be a surprise. Nor can it be given on the second last day because, again, if it hadn't been given before then, it would have to be given on that second last day (since the last day is out of the question, as they just reasoned) - - in which case, again, they'd expect it and it wouldn't be a surprise. And so on for the third last day, and the fourth last day.....They conclude that a surprise quiz can't be given.

Are they right? Is it impossible for the professor to give a surprise quiz?

My daughters 4th birthday party is next sunday! It will be family, friends, and some children (mostly 3-4 years old). I need a few ideas for activities for the kids to do. We are having the party at our house. We had her birthday at our house last year, and we had water play for the kids but it was messy and people didn't want to go outside since July is the hottest month here in Texas.

I am thinking we will buy large containers of ice cream (vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate) and then have decorative bowls filled with candies to 'build your own ice cream'. This way everyone can help themselves while mingling. Last year we did fajitas, which was such a pain because we had so many people here!

What would be best money wise and easiest on me, Pizza or chicken nuggets and fruit? I like the finger food idea because I can put them out on trays and have the whole theme as a picnic style birthday. I am just not sure if a bunch of adults will want to eat chicken nuggets though.

Also, any themes would be helpful. I am pretty crafty, but I need simple and clean ideas for the kids to do.

I am trying to figure out what I want to get for my dad and also my daughters dad. These are two people who have everything, so I really want it to be something creative that they could possibly do together. I have thought about an Astros game :) My daughter is going to make them cards and adventure boxes where she will put all of their items they have collected (or I have, for her) over the past year.

If the economy currently has a frictional unemployment rate of 2 percent, structural unemployment of 2 percent, seasonal unemployment of 0.5 percent, and cyclical unemployment of 2 percent, what is the natural rate of unemployment? Where is the economy operating relative to its potential GDP?

Can someone explain to me how i am supposed to find the natural rate of unemployment. i want to understand how to actually find this. I have been looking for information on it, and I cannot find what i am looking for specifically because it shows mostly definitions. I understand the meaning, and the parts, just not sure how they fit all together.
