  • I want to report a bank crime. Who has jurisdiction in this case?

I recently noticed an unauthorized withdrawal from my checking account. It was to a mortgage company in another state, and after a lot of phone calls to the mortgage company and the bank, plus signing a form that says I didn't authorize the transfer, I got my money back; the mortgage company agreed to flag the guy's account in case he tried it again.

This month the same guy accessed my account again, but transferred money to a different company (to pay a different bill). More phone calls and signed papers got my money back again, and I'm closing the account so he can't steal from me a third time.

I want to press charges, but my question is how? I live in one state, the man who did this lives in another (the same state where my bank is headquartered). When it comes to electronic money transfers, where did the crime take place?

Should I go to my local police? Or contact the police where he lives?

(I tried the FBI, thinking that it involved a crime across state lines, but they said that they would just collect information to help them look for crime trends, not to prosecute.)

  • Upcoming trip -- Do you know the seat belt laws in Aruba?

My family of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) will be traveling to Aruba soon.

Rental cars seem to max-out at 5 seats, presumably 2 front and 3 rear.

Assuming we provided the front seat occupants and the 2 kids with seat belts, would there be a problem with having 1-2 unrestrained adults in the back seat?

  • What "entitlements" does a U.S. citizen who emigrates still receive?

If a person emigrates from the U.S. to another country, will he/she still be entitled to benefits he/she paid into while a U.S. citizen?

For example, Social Security or Medicare benefits at retirement age? Military retirement pay or Veteran's benefits? IRA or 401K accounts (esp w/o paying penalties for transferring the assets to the new home country)?

Does the age when a person emigrates make a difference?

  • How to eradicate cyanobacteria in a reef tank?

I can't seem to stay ahead of the blooming cyanobacteria in my reef tank.

I've tried water changes, and physically removing it by scrubbing/siphoning.

Because I have a lot of soft corals, etc, I can't deprive the tank of a photosynthesis source, as some websites suggest.

And antibiotics I've seen advertised will cause more problems by damaging the balance in the biologic filter.

How can I get rid of this unsightly (and potentially toxic) nuisance?

  • Have your orgasms changed over time?

This question is really for those who started having orgasms at a young age, before puberty.

A girlfriend recently told me that she'd started masturbating at age 4 or 5, which surprised me (I was more typical, starting around puberty). She said her orgasms are different now than when she was young, but she was too embarassed to explain more when I pressed her for details.

How old were you when you had your first orgasm? If you remember what it was like when you were younger, have your orgasms changed as you got older? If so, in what ways?

  • Are non-profit companies exempt from paying Social Security taxes for their employees?

I work for a company that's a not-for-profit medical provider (any "profit" at the end of the year gets divided up and paid to the doctors as "bonuses" so the balance is always zero).

I've never had any Security Security tax withheld from my paycheck, nor paid by my employer. When I asked why, they said it was because they were non-profit.

My worry is that this might affect how much Social Security income I'm entitled to when I retire (please save the jokes about SS going bankrupt before I can collect...)

So, is what they're doing legal? If not, what should I do? (My big concern is that, if it's reported, SS will demand all the employees to immediately pay up tens-of-thousands of dollars in owed back taxes!)

  • Why is everyone afraid to use the "T" word regarding the Fort Hood shooter?

Nidal Malik Hasan has been identified as a "shooting suspect," an "alleged shooter," and most frequently an "Army psychiatrist;" Senator McCain is the only prominent person I've heard suggest that he's a TERRORIST. Yet the facts strongly point to the Fort Hood massacre as the first successful terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01.

Why do you think, in spite of all we are learning about Hasan's past statements and his communications with radical supporters of Islamic terrorism, not to mention his cry of "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire, that the "T" word is being left out of the discussion almost entirely?

  • Can I use an unlocked iPhone on any network?

I recently bought an iPhone and joined the AT&T network. As much as I loved the iPhone, I had to give it back to get away from AT&T: Their customer service was horrible (rude, misinforming, and trying to say my bill was $800 when it turned out -- after appealing to half a dozen managers -- that it was under $100).

So, what happens if I buy an "unlocked" iPhone? Can I just take it into my nearest Verizon Wireless store (my new cell-phone carrier) and tell them to activate it on their network?

Other than the voided Apple warranty, are their any other problems I'll be facing?

  • Why are there no news reports on Sen. Biden?

Since Gov. Palin was picked as Sen. McCain's VP candidate, there have been countless attacks on her in the media. I think the only reports I've read about Sen. Biden since he was picked by Sen. Obama have talked about where he's campaigning and what he said. There's been no negative press on him that I've seen. Does the disparity between the coverage of Biden and Palin mean:

    A) Joe Biden is perfect - he's never done anything negative to report?

    or

    B) The media is biased against her - out of sexism and/or for political reasons?

(Some might argue that Palin is newer on the national scene and needs more public scrutiny, but I'd respond that few Americans know much about Biden other than he's a Democrat senator from a small state.)

Doesn't he deserve national attention and scrutiny, too?
