  • Recently acquired horse with stiff rear leg from old tying injury. Noticeable at walk, not so much at other..?

Hi, recently got a 21 yr old experienced 4h horse for one of my girls. I was told she had a few year old accident to her hind end whilst somebody tied her leg teaching her not to kick when cinched. At the time the vet had told her it was a pulled muscle and she might just end up walking stiffly. Also been told that the vet had given clearance to the 4h judges so the girl could show this horse back then.. She's said that this horse hasn't really changed in severity her stiff leg walk since the accident or since vet clearance. She doesn't seem to be in pain and moves into a trot and lope easily. I'm wondering at what point a horse is considered "lame"? I'm sure 4h standards are different than adult shows. I'm wondering even though this is a couple year old injury if something could still be done. At the time the previous owner said the vet thought it might just be pulled muscle.. Any advice?

  • Computer screen goes black If I'm not using it?

Sometimes I can Ctrl/alt/delete and get to the task manager screen, then it comes back up, but more often that won't work either.. I have to manually shut it off and restart. What could be going on here? I cleaned my registry earlier, restored system, cleared cache and got rid of unwanted programs. What else can I do?

  • Does body build make a difference in having a better seat when riding horses?

This is kinda a follow up to my previous question re; my 8 yr old Daughter... She is almost 80 lbs and one big muscle! Not an ounce of fat on that girl. She's riding in 4H shows this year and I'm trying to find ways to help her sit better with a saddle while trotting. I noticed some other girls there are of slight build and not much riding experience at all but they aren't bouncing as much as my little girl. Has anyone noticed if build has anything to do with it?

  • How do I help my 8 Yr old Daughter not to bounce so much while trotting?

She's been riding bareback like I do the last three years.. and she's very muscular so I know shes got the strength but I just don't know how to teach her the correct seat. She started horse 4H this year and I want her to feel comfortable..

  • Horse introductions; mare, geldings and mini involved. Wanting it to go as smoothly as possible?

My little herd used to consist of a big mellow mare, an older welsh/arab gelding and a mini gelding.. The welsh was the boss of all although the mini liked to challenge. I brought home a mellow easy going gelding and had them across the fence from each other for a few days. I introduced my mare into the pasture with the new gelding a few days ago and they really took to each other. BUT today I decided to add the bossy welsh. It changed everything! All of a sudden both the mare and the welsh started picking on the new guy! I thought I had buddied up the new guy and the mare enough but she turned her back and went back to the old guy! Hmmm.. They need to all be together as room is limited.. Any suggestions from past experience?

  • Stopping a reversing horse?

Just got a new guy.. 9 yr old Paint gelding.. He hadn't been ridden a whole lot the last couple of years. He was also kept alone with no other horses in sight.. We brought him home yesterday and he's like a kid in a candy shop meeting the other horses over the fence.. I took him out of the pasture for a little ride this morning. He is very mellow. Comes from a long line of Halter champs. BUT... we got to a point about 50 yards away and he decided he wanted to go back to his new friends which is understandable but he just put it in reverse and kept going until I circled him.. I was tempted to give him a swat on the rump with the reins but there was a little ditch around and I didn't want an accident so I lead him through up further and then rode him slowly back.. Not sure how to stop the reverse thing, never dealt with that before.. any ideas out there?

  • Starting my girls into barrel racing..?

I'm the only one in my family that's ever been into horses. But I just like to go up in the woods and ride. My Daughter who's 8 1/2 really wants to get into this barrel racing stuff, which I have no clue about! We do have a nice little Welsh/Arab, He's only 13 hands, 18 yr. old. Nice guy and quick. I think they'd be a good fit for it. Better than my big ol' 16 hand Mare! Where do I start? How old were you when you started? If she really gets into this all the way am I gonna have to go buy a really expensive barrel horse down the road? Is it necessary? Thanks for any advice!

  • How do you know if you have pneumonia or lingering cold?

I had a sore throat two nights ago, stuffed up head, fatigue, body aches and nasal drainage for a few days after. This is the third day of feeling crappy. How do I know if I need to go to Doctor or ER? I don't have medical coverage this Month but I'm just concerned about it turning into pneumonia as I'm a smoker. I'm up and about, don't feel like it but got kids to take care of. No fever that I can tell. Just don't want it to turn into something bad. Thanks for advice!

  • Can an injury to an infant's gum scar/hurt the incoming tooth?

My little girl fell about six months ago and hit her upper gum. Her tooth was just starting to emerge. Now it's discolored and seems as though it's got a little indentation. She doesn't act like it bugs her and we're not in an area where there is much dental care. But the more I think about it I worry. Can an injury to a gum cause tooth damage when they're that little and their teeth are "soft"?

  • I own a home in a neighboring Town that is being occupied without my permission?

We have an acquaintance that wanted to buy the house last year. He has a key and is paying our mortgage payment directly to the bank every month until he can find financing to pay me off. He doesn't live there but had a key so he could go in the house, make minor repairs etc and keep an eye one it. I just found out he has rented our house out to a third party without our permission. So now I have this Woman living there without my permission. (he told her that he was the legal owner). He doesn't even have a valid purchase agreement with me anymore. It expired. I just trusted him and gave him more time until I took the key back. He said he hasn't accepted any money nor signed any type of lease. How can I get her out? A termination notice is for tenants, right? She believes she has permission. Is it called unlawful occupation? Thanks for all advice!

  • Girls are starting Rabbit 4H this year. Need advice?

My girls 6 & 8 are doing rabbit 4H this year. We've only had one meeting so far and haven't bought the rabbits yet. How many rabbit people out there keep 'em in the house vs. outside hutch? It gets really hot here in the Summer and pretty cold in the Winter. We don't have a barn yet so I'm worried about what kind of set up to make. Everyone at the first meeting said they keep theirs outside but I don't understand how besides misting systems and iced water bottles for the heat. Any advice I can get would be great! Also what kind of rabbits would be good to start with adn would get along in the same hutch. (our leader is out of Town and we have to get rabbits within two weeks) Thanks!

  • Are the older Breyer horses made with stronger material than the newer ones?

I remember in the 70's playing out in the yard and dirt with my old breyer horses. We were so rough on them and they never seemed to break legs. The ones I've bought my girls in the last five years seem so much more brittle. Always having broken legs! Does anyone know if they have changed the way they made them? I want to get more of a collection going but not put money into ones that are going to break the first week!
