  • Tax professionals only, please!!?

My job takes taxes out not based on the amount of money I make, but on the hours I work. Last year, I made $8000 and had about $6 taken out in taxes. Unfortunately, this was not my only job and I ended up owing money. I have never heard of a company withholding tax amounts based on hours and I am wondering if this is common practice. I have spoken to many people about this, some who claim to be tax professionals, and they all tell me that this is crazy and is not how companies should be withholding taxes. This isn't some small time company I work for; this is a big corporation. I have since had an additional amount withheld from each paycheck to make sure I don't owe for next year, however I would like to know if there is something wrong going on here. Thanks!

  • Can taxes be withheld based on hours and not income?

My employer withheld taxes based on the hours I worked and not the income I made. As a result, I made $7000 but they only took out $11 in Federal taxes. I've never heard of this as a method of withholding before. Is this a proper method for a company to withhold taxes from a paycheck?

  • Converter box question...?

My HD converter box changes channels all by itself, always switching between whatever channel I'm on to channel 22 or 30. I've tried doing a channel scan, and have turned it off and on, leaving it off for various intervals. Nothing works. How do I stop this?

  • Who is at fault in this car accident?

My husband was making a right turn onto a one way street. Cross traffic was stopped; their light was just turning green. He felt he had enough time to make his turn. A woman was in the far right hand lane headed in the direction my husband was turningl; she was initially stopped. She darted across a lane of traffic, in the middle of the intersection, when her light turned green in an attempt to enter the freeway, the entrance for which was in the left hand lane. She hit my husband in the center lane as he was entering the freeway himself. She struck the driver's rear end and spun the car around. His car is a total loss and unfortunately, because of the age of the car, we did not have collision coverage. My husband's insurance company states he is 100% at fault because he had the red light, though turning on a red is legal in that intersection. We believe the other party is at fault because she made an unsafe lane change in the intersection going approx. 35-40 miles per hour. She also did not attempt to avoid the collision and there were no skid marks at the scene. My husband's insurance company (State Farm) refuses to pursue the matter any further, even though they did not question the other party as to how the accident actually happened. So... who is at fault?

  • Who is responsible for extra charges caused by gas leak?

We had a gas leak at our home in December, and our bill was outrageous. The gas company says we were just using too much heat and that a leak wouldn't cause a rise in our bill. However, our bill went from $103 in December to $43 in January. We haven't changed our habits. Does anybody know who is responsible for these extra costs incured because of a leak that went on for at least a month; us or the gas company?

  • Should I get my pug a friend?

I'm wondering if my pug would benefit from having another dog around. He's alone during the day while we are at work and we kinda want two dogs anyway. He's very independent when around my mom's Rottweiler... does anybody have two dogs, one being a pug, and noticed a difference in behavior?

  • Will my new pug always be so needy?

We just adopted a 2 year old pug. I know pugs like their people, but this one has to be with us whenever we are home. We can't sleep because he needs to be in the room with us, and he snores like a bear. How can I teach him that he'll be okay even if he isn't in the bedroom with us?
