  • Evolution: Do organisms really adapt?

Lately it seems like I have been constantly hearing about adaptation as the answer of random questions I Google.

I have a difficult time believing that humans can physically adapt to certain degrees. For instance, I was researching a runners high earlier, and the article said runners high ( the feeling of endorphins) is likely caused from a evolutional adaptation made by the brain in order to help us survive. That makes sense.

However, I find it hard to believe this happens. I understand these changes are over a long period of time. But its difficult to grasp that our physical and chemical components can be changed.

If adaptation is in fact real, as described above, then to what degree can we adapt to? If the entire human race wanted to receive endorphins from , say watching TV, we would not receive endorphins from that no matter how much we tried.

Science is always blaming adaptation for the way the brain reacts and compares us to Paleozoic times with caveman principles. Perhaps we have always been the same ... I just have a hard time understanding that humans or organisms can basically alter whatever part of their body they want. That seems like breaking the rules.

Just a discussion. I hope to hear some thoughts and possibly provide some articles about adaptation. Thanks.

  • What makes Bokeh "better" on FX format cameras?

    Hi photographers.

Being an automotive photographer, i've always found shots of cars that were taken wide open or with minimal depth of field very attractive. Bokeh gives a professional feel to photos in which often limited equipment cannot produce.

Being fascinated with other photographer's work, i've found that the shots they are producing is what i want to create.

Through my study of using different lenses on my Nikon D3200, i've found that no matter how hard I try, bokeh isn't quite as... "dramatic" as in full frame cameras.

Thus it will never be. I have done limited research on this. My question is, what mechanically/optically causes the bokeh on a full frame camera to become more dramatic then crop sensor DSLRs?

    Thanks

  • Long Exposure - Water - Tips?

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for long exposure water/stream/creek shots?

I produce awesome results. But my photos are soft because I am shooting so closed down.

I have 3 ND Filters I stack on top and use. And sometimes even in daylight i can hardly get slow enough shutter speeds when shooting at 18mm (wider the better for me).

Does anyone have any tips on how to get sharper long exposure shots without having to close my aperture down so far? Or is this an impossible questions without further filters..

  • Economics: Break Even Point! HELP?

Can someone walk me through the mathematics of this?

Its for a college course and i m confused ha.

    Thanks!

A plant has a capacity of 4100 hydraulic pumps per month. The fixed cost is $504000

per month. The variable cost is $166 per pump, and sales price is $328 per pump (assume that sales

equal output volume). What is the breakeven point in number of pumps per month? What percentage reduction will occur in the breakeven point if fixed costs were reduced by 18% and unit variable costs by 6%?

  • Stock Market: Can't find a stock price for a certain date?

    Hi,

I am being forced to document stock prices for a company for a college course. The course is not an investing/business course so the professor doesn't give us any lectures on all details about studying stocks.

One of the dates i am required to record is NOT on record on any site. Monday, January 19th for Borg Warner Inc (BWA) is not documented. WHy is this?

    Thanks

  • Why won't my Nikon shoot without flash?

    Hi photography world.

I recently have been doing some long exposure work. Something I am not totally experienced with but have enough knowledge to pull off some amazing shots.

Anyway, I am using a D3200 with my kit lens since it is wide. I have stacked 2 ND filters and am stopped all the way to f22. I am using self timer. My camera seems to not shoot these 6+ seconds photos if my flash is closed. If I open it, i can then take a shot.

I am shooting manual. Focus is set to manual. My metering is matrix and even when i over expose the shot (by my meter reading) it still will not take the shot if flash is closed.

    Thanks.

  • why do film makers rent expensive cameras?

I'm an amateur dslr photographer. I do video work as well simply for a hobby.

Ive done research on the topic of hollywood cameras and such. I've read they are mostly rented due to their ridiculous price. I also know that many big budget filmmakers are shooting film. Film I know absolutely nothing about due to being born into the world of digital.

I also know that many great Hollywood films have been shot with DSLR. Such as the Nikon d800 and the canon 5D MK1.

What I am dying yo know is why would a Hollywood film maker allocate ridiculous money to rent a 50,000 + dollar camera when they could simply shoot the.movie with a DSLR capable of 4k video?

Why why why? For the amount of money a Hollywood professional camera costs to rent, a filmaker could buy 20 top notch DSLR lenses and 5 solid full frame dslr cameras and shoot the film way cheaper??

    (These numbers are arbitrary)

I am an amateur DSLR photographer so feel free to explain in photographer terms.

I am strictly speaking of the camera. Not any other film making equipment. Thanks!! Dying to understand this.

  • Nikon Photography: 35mm f1.8 vs 50mm HELP?

I'll try and make this quick. First, I'm an amateur automotive photographer. Simply a hobby I love.

    I have a d3200.

As a car photographer, bokeh is a key point for CaR shots.

Question: I have a 50mm 1.8D. I'm deciding on the 35 1.8g or the 50 1.8G. Both excellent. I want the 50 because bokeh is better, however the 35 doesn't seem to give that "compressed" telephoto shot which I hate the sight of, like the 50mm does.

    So what should I get?

Also plz don't lecture.me on understanding focal lengths. I understand well. Thanks

Photographers: What should my NEXT camera lens be?

Hello fellow photographers and artists of image. I have a question. I consider myself an amateur photographer, but not a novice. I have a D3200 with two lenses. I have the 18-55mm VR Kit lens, as well as my stunning, affordable 50mm f1.8 Nikkor lens. Since I purchased my 50mill prime lens, I have touched my 18-55 very few times. I love the sharpness and speed that my 50mm delivers. I find my 18-55 to be practically useless for my photography needs unless far subjects are in the question.

My main subject of photography are cars. I also enjoy shooting close-up nature subject such as unique plants and animals. Fish, spiders, etc.

But mainly, i would classify myself as a car photographer.

My question to you wise folks is, what should my next lens be in my arsenal?

I understand the 50mm restricts myself to many things such as fixed focal length which can make it more difficult to compose the shot. I rarely stop down to 1.8. Usually between 2.2-3.5 does well on much of my car photos.

My price range is as affordable as i can be. I'd like to see some sharpness like I do with my 50mm but i understand some sharpness sacrificed with zoom lenses vs prime lenses.

Also one more side note: I'd like to produce photos such as the one attached. I believe a telephoto lens gives this nice depth of field and shot for a car photographer.

AGAIN, im still learning so bare with me. Thanks

  • DSLR Photography. 50mm Lens Questions!?

Just received my first 50mm prime lens. My camera is a Nikon D3200 paired with a 50mm Nikkor f1.8D lens. Manual focus to save money.

With it being a prime lens, I was forced to move around to place and crop my shots. My subject is a car since I am a car photographer.

Manual focusing isn't the easiest thing to do, however i got the just of getting my pictures sharp. Since I strive for a more professional looking shot, I use a wide aperture such as f2.2, f2.8 to generate a nice depth of fied that gives a the background of the shot a blurred look.

    Question:

Anyway guys and gals. I stepped away for a few shots to get the car in frame. I was a decent ways away from the car for the shot and i focused manually but it was as if i was no longer able to focus the shot at that distance from my subject. like i was too far to reach focus.

Is this because i should be shooting at a tighter aperture such as f11? is that why I wasnt able to get the shot in focus from far distance with this lens?

    Thanks guys still learning. Amateur.

  • Amazon Shipping: Return Policy Question!!!!?

So 2 days ago I purchased a lens for my camera. I decided to buy from Amazon and I chose a used one to knock some price off. The vendor is not an actual Amazon store so its from another place. Anyway, it is in fact in the U.S. I live in Pennsylvania. I think it said missouri or something when at check out.

The package is shipping via USPS. The expected delivery date is AUGUST 20th. I'm not waiting 20 days for my package to come. It should not take that long. Usually tracking services from amazon are pretty accurate. The [ackage is in transit.

    Question,

If i decide to buy a another one from amazon to recieve the package before i go back to school, can I return the one that i initially bought?

If i don't open it of course.

Sorry guys but 20 days to get to my house is ridiculous.

    I shoot manual, now what?

Sorry to bombard yahoo answers with all these photography Qs.. Ive been shooting in manual mode for about a week now with my new Nikon D3200 18-55 VR Lens. I get correct exposure I think. Although sometimes a bit under exposed which I dont understand...

This is how I shoot and i'm only an amateur so feel free to criticize.. respectively, that is.

I focus on my subject and adjust my aperture. Normally I keep a wide aperture because i like soft backgrounds in my photos (attractive to me). Unless of course, shooting large landscapes then I close up around f8-f12. After focusing on my subject, I keep ISO low as possible and adjust my shutter speed, not going below 60-80, unless tripod is used.

I snap the photo when the meter is directly centered. (default metering settings).

I am told that a large point of shooting manual is to adjust your exposure accordingly. However, I don't feel confident viewing an image on a dinky camera screen to determine whether its under exposed or over. If the shot is taken in the middle of my camera meter, its pretty close.

Any suggestions/tips to determine a properly exposed photo and how can i improve my sequence of operations to achieve a better photo?

attached is a photo I just shot/edited 10 minutes ago. Thanks

  • DSLR Photography: Expensive DSLRs vs CHEAP?

I recently picked up my first DSLR. I began shooting car photos with a Sony Cybershot 20.1 MP point and shoot. I needed a DSLR to improve my photography. So I went with a Nikon D3200. This camera is about 500 bucks with a 18-55 VR lens. I have been already shooting in manual mode and getting the hang of exposure.

To me, the sole purpose of buying a camera is to achieve the BEST quality possible. Isnt that what DSLRs are about? Getting the most crystal clear photo possible. With perfect exposure and colors etc...

I am browsing through many car photos on Flickr tonight and I see so many semi profesional photographers shooting great photos with $1500-2000+ cameras. I ask myself why? It may seem like a very stupid, naive question to most. But photo quality can only get SO good before its impossible to get any better. With my Nikon D3200, with better lenses, I know i can achieve the EXACT same quality and image as a camera that costs 3x mine does.

I understand more advanced photographers need FASTER cameras to increase efficiency (faster SS, more features). I realize that top of the line cameras can shoot photos at great shutter speeds and can shoot 50 photos a second, etc. but i feel like a lot of money is wasted for some photographers when they can buy a great lens and slam it on an entry level DSLR like mine, and achieve the same quality.

I'm not saying I am right. I am just telling you my thoughts. And was curious to see what others have to say. Thanks!

  • Photography help!! REVIEW my photos please!?

Hey guys and gals. I purchased a Nikon D3200 DSLR *(18-55 VR Lens) the other day. Pleased with the camera. My First DSLR. I started shooting manual and am learning fast... Tonight I shot some photos and was wondering if anyone could help me. I used a tripod in a few shots. I payed close attention to the meter and set my ISO, Fstop, SS accordingly.

Here is my FLICKR Account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/112859823@N05/

The last 3 photos I uploaded seem under exposed. I shoot in RAW (these are JPG versions)

This could be due to maybe not holding camera still?

So my question is, are these shots underexposed. and what would YOU have done differently if you were shooting with my lense. My settings are included in description. It is the most recent 3 uploaded. Thanks so much!

  • Photography Tips! Car photography, HELP?

Hey folks, amateur photographer here. Just picked up my first DSLR yesterday. A Nikon D3200. Love the camera. Will fit my needs for a few years i believe. It came with the 18-55mm VR Lense...

I have a question. Im starting to shoot in manual mode and getting fairly good at still motion photography. I plan to buy a new lense but specifically for car photography. I love shooting cars especially my own..

However, I am confused to why I cannot get a very soft background (like a portrait almost). Nothing too wild... But here is a PERFECT example:

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/xstartxtodayx/776082...

I know that I have an entry level camera, and need some lenses to create this shot. But what is the best lense/technique/advice to get to make a car in focus sharply with a blurred background???

I understand how aperature works... kinda. Thanks
