Popular 19th century American religious hymns?
For the past six months I have been amassing a collection of early to mid-19th century American hymnals to arrange hymns selected from them for performances at Civil War re-enactment church services by a small woodwind ensemble. As of today, I have arranged 63 hymns which are far more than the ensemble will need for any one church service. After our rehearsal the question was asked as to whether there were any popular hymns that I might have over looked from the period from 1830 to around 1865. So I turn to Yahoo Answers with the hope that there is an expert on hymnology who might offer titles of hymns that he or she knows were popular during that time frame.
I an NOT interested in the stories behind the hymns or in popular songs of the time period. I'm only seeking titles of popular American hymns found in early to mid-19th century hymnals that were sung by American congregations. Once I have a title, I usually can locate the music in the hymnals that I've collected or on-line. I await a response from a hymn expert. Thank you.

I have amassed a rather large collection of early to mid-19th century hymnals. I'm needing titles of the most popular hymns from this era leading up to the American Civil War.
Would any religious music expert that uses Yahoo Answers provide me with what you consider to be the essential early to mid-19th century hymns sung by American congregations? I am not interested in the stories behind the creation of the hymns nor am I interested in hymns written after 1865. In most cases I will be able to locate the printed music in the many hymnals that I own or on-line.
Thank you for your help.

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoIs it advisable to mix brands of gasoline?
I always purchase Exxon gasoline because I know that it is quality gas and also because I have a credit card for that brand. Recently two Exxon stations where I've purchased gas over the years have switched brands to Shell. I don't have a credit card for Shell, but I could apply for one. The Shell stations had cheaper priced gas than Exxon Stations that I pass. Therefore, I was wondering if mixing gas of two different brands cause any problems for the car or should I have no problem by using both Exxon and Shell gasolines?

3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhy is it that smokers often want to smoke a cigarette after eating a meal?
Why do smokers always want to smoke a cigarette after finishing a meal? It use to be that smokers lit up while at the table, but now with strict rules from health departments, you see smokers reaching for their cigarette pack as soon as they leave a restaurant. I've never figured out why there is a need to smoke immediately after eating. Have there been any studies on this behavior? What satisfaction does this give the smoker?
