  • I'm going to be a college junior in Fall 2016, but right now my cumulative GPA is only a 2.2! Is it still possible to raise it to a 2.6-2.8?

It's really my own fault because I stopped trying after I failed to get admitted to a vocal performance program that I really wanted, and started majorly screwing up in school from the end of my freshman year of college, and failed three classes. I really am planning to step things up this year, but what if I can't do it?

I'm an English major now, and I want to go into teaching it at the K-12 level. But what if I can't get in to grad school, even with trying at this point? What if I get on academic probation because my grades in college fall beneath a 2.0 after next semester? My grades in college English classes have been mostly B+'s and B's, though I did get one C- in a creative writing class because I didn't try last year in it. My academic weaknesses are math and science, particularly because I have dyscalculia (a learning disability). However, I don't plan to just hole myself in my dorm room all year and slack off. I'm actually going to try, read the material, try to keep up with the rest of the class, and get help from tutors when I need it.

I know, it's largely my own fault for screwing up, I plan to change that this year, but what if that's not enough to raise my 2.2 gpa to 2.6-2.8? What if it's not enough to get into grad school after I graduate college, if I can manage to graduate college that is?

  • I'm worried that I screwed up my Vocal Performance Audition?

I've been practicing and learning these three songs/arias for with two private voice teachers for an audition in vocal performance, and today I finally sang. I chose to audition with these three songs:

-L'ho Perduta me meschina from Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart (My teachers also said that I could add in a high Ab flat as well, so I did).

-Long Time Ago by Aaron Copland

-Alma del Core in G major by Caldara

I was told to stop after singing L'ho Perduta after finishing it. I know the song is supposed to have a sad and distressed sound, but being nervous I smiled the whole way through. The Ab flat at the end was sung on pitch correctly, but it sounded disconnected and shallow. I don't find out whether or not I made it through until March 20, and I'm just worried that I won't get in. I really hope that's not the case because I've been practicing and working for this audition so hard and so much!

  • I feel selfish, but I can't drive due to a disability?

I was born with mild Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy on the right side of my body (my arm and leg), so I don't have my license. I'm 19, and I do plan to get it eventually, but it's not easy, and it takes time. Anyway, I'm planning on going into vocal performance and I take private lessons every other weekend. I hate frustrating my parents and asking them to take me when they complain, but I have an audition coming up next month, and I want to nail it. I haven't had a lesson for two weeks. I feel bad, but what choice do I have?

  • How can I get rid of this creepy guy, who keeps texting me?

Okay, so I did a stupid and naïve thing by posting my cell number online, hoping to make new friends. I knew that it was a dumb idea even before I did it, but I did it on an impulse.

Now, this guy on my college campus has my phone number. At first, we texted and he seemed nice, even though he was looking for a romantic relationship and I was just looking for a friend. Then, he started getting creepy when he asked what turned me on. Naïvely, I said strong abs and lean muscles. Then he asked if I wanted to see his abs. Feeling bad, I texted him back, sure. After that things started getting real creepy when he told me that he was getting so turned on by me and jerking off. While I totally understand that masturbation is natural, I was so throughly disgusted by someone I don't even really know texting me about doing it because of me. What's worse, I was so naïve that I actually felt bad about not acting interested. However, he when he asked me if I wanted to see a picture of his penis. Of course, I said no. Luckily, he didn't send me pictures of that. He did send pictures of porn though. In the end, he apologized. I said that I forgave him, but in actuality I was horrified, and struggled with deciding whether or not to block him. I was finally convinced to block him, but now he's changed his phone number, and is able to text me again? What should I do? Just block him again, or give him another chance?

  • Would an XXS in a jeggings sweater from AE be too small for me?

I'm 4'11 1/2, 85 pounds, and a bra size 30DD. I just bought this sweater from American Eagle online in an XXS. Do you think that it will be too small for me?

  • Is it an impacted wisdom tooth?

I'm 19 years old, and for the past few weeks I've noticed an aching feeling in the back of my mouth, localizing from the gumline around my last molar on my lower jaw. I think that it's an impacted wisdom tooth that is going to need to be removed. It certainly doesn't feel like a cavity. Dentists on here what do you think it is?

  • I have 17 credit hours my first semester of college as a freshman. Do you think it's more than I can handle?

I just started college, and I already feel exhausted. Currently my major's undeclared, but I'm planning on auditioning for the conservatory this November, and becoming a vocal performance major. I've already accepted the fact that I probably won't graduate within four years, but I'm okay with that. Only majors in vocal performance are allowed to take their core requirements. The classes that I'm currently taking are general ed classes, a first year experience course, and choir, which is the only special requirement for vocal performance majors that I can knock out of the way without being a major in it yet.

    Here are my current credits:

ENG 125F Intro to Literature 3 Credits Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:05AM-9:55AM

FYE First Year Experience: The Art & Science of Creativity 4 credits Mon, Weds, Thurs, Fri 11:15AM-12:05PM

SOC 100D-The Principles of Sociology 3 Credits Mon, Weds, Fri 12:45PM-1:50PM

MUC Ensemble 1 Credit Mon, Weds 4:15PM-5:45PM

Secondary Instrument: Voice: 1 Credit Mon 10:30AM-11:00AM

ENG 131-Workshop & Exposition 2 credits Tues, Thurs

Refresher's Algebra- Mon, Weds, Fri, 2:05PM-2:55PM 2 Temporary credits. Long story short, I suck at math and did badly on that section in my entrance exams.

  • College voice teacher making me sing medium-high repertoire when I'm a high soprano?

I've been taking vocal lessons since I was sixteen, and I discovered that I'm a light lyric coloratura soprano with a range of F#3-F#6. I want to be a vocal performance major, but I decided what I want rather late. However, that's not the point. The point is that I feel like I'm starting from square one with the arias my new teacher is giving me. They rarely go above the staff line, and there's not much movement in the arias. I sang Batti Batti for my new teacher, and I showed him my repertoire which included repertoire like Poor Wand'ring One and Mein Herr Marquis. I understand the basis for starting over from the beginning, but I'd much rather learn stuff like Una Donna Quindici Anni or Bester Jungling.

  • Classical/opera singers what's your vocal fach?

I'm a young intermediate light lyric coloratura soprano (koloraturasoubrette), and my vocal range is F#3-F#6. Admittedly, when I'm practicing scales my F#3 is kind of lame, and my high notes beyond E6 are kind of weak.

  • Worried about menopause and vocal range?

My mother is of Indian descent, and began natural menopause at the age of 45. I'm only 19 right now, so it's probably ridiculous to worry about that kind of thing now, but I'm a young lyric coloratura soprano, and I would like to remain one at least until the age of 50. I would like to be an opera singer and teacher one day. One other thing, my mother was a bit of a smoker, but I never have and never will. Should I be worried? My vocal range is F#3-F#6.

  • Will I have menopause early too?

My mom had menopause at 45, but then again she said she got her first period when she was 8. I know a lot of it is based on genetics, but my mom did smoke somewhat. I'm worried about having menopause in my 40s because I'm a young coloratura soprano with a range of F#3-F#6. I don't want to go into vocal performance as a coloratura soprano, and have a shortened career because of a loss of vocal range in my 40s. I'm only 19 right now, so it might seem silly to worry about something so far away in the future.

  • Do lyric coloratura sopranos completely lose the ability to sing coloratura repertoire by the time they are 50?

I am curious because I am a koloraturasoubrette, and I am interested in a vocal performance degree in classical music. I'm 19 and my vocal range is F#3-F#6. I've been taking vocal lessons for four years now. While I don't plan on doing dramatic coloratura repertoire, I am interested in lyric coloratura repertoire.

  • Have you ever ripped your pants?

I never have, at least not in the way that counts. I have gotten holes in the knees of my jeans from regular wear and tear. I mean have you ever ripped your pants in the crotch area? How did it happen? Were you in public?

  • (Women only) Do you wax your upper lip?

I'm eighteen, and I've been waxing my upper lip at home with microwaveable wax once a month. I have dark brown hair, and the hair on my upper lip makes me self conscious when it starts to look too thick.

  • How am I supposed to commute 30 minutes away through a freeway, when I'm still learning how to drive?

I am eighteen years old, and I was born with mild Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy. By August 25, I'll be starting college. However, I really, really, do not want to live on campus. I'd rather live at home since I'm very shy. I've always had trouble fitting in and making friends. I'm trying to rent an adapted vehicle, and I think that if I practice really hard, I could get my license before August 25. People are starting to wonder if doing that will be safe every day, especially during heavy traffic in the winter. Tell me do you think it's worth it to try driving and commuting? Will it be too much?

  • Will I be able to commute from home by August 24?

I'm eighteen and learning how to drive now. I was born with mild Hemiplegic Spastic Cerebral Palsy. It affects my right arm and leg. I'm very shy, and I've never been able to fit in at highschool. Besides, I really, really, really DON'T want to live on campus. Besides, I hate the idea of the college party life. The only issue is that I would have to take the freeway every morning, and the school I'm attending is 30 minutes away. My mom keeps insisting that she could get a chauffeur to drive me to and from school, but I don't want to make them do that. What if I can't do it on time? What should I do?

  • Do you think the legal driving age should be eighteen?

It sometimes bugs me that just about everyone in my senior class has known how to drive since the 10tn grade, and now that we're seniors I sometimes feel embarrased that my parents still drive me everywhere. Now, that I'm eighteen, I'm just learning how to drive so that I can get my license. The truth is that I put off driving because I was born with a disability called Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy. It's pretty mild, but it has made my right arm and leg weaker. I was scared to drive, but now that I'm planning to commute from home for college I realize the necessity.

Simple tasks have never come to me as easily as everyone else, and I feel that too many teens take their lives and safety for granted. Just look at the teenage crash rates, especially of the ages 16-17, and all because of a stupid choice they made driving. What do you think? Should the age for legal driving be eighteens?

A friend of mine is wearing a similar dress to me this year at our senior prom. Luckily we're not in the same group, but I hope that my dress doesn't look too similar to my friend's.

  • Have you ever let down a partner on a school project because you felt too lazy to do your part?

I'm a high school senior, and I had a very nice junior partner for my debate in speech class. She seemed really upset about it, and I felt so guilty and kept apologizing over and over, saying that I feel horrible. Luckily, I think that my teacher is grading the debate mostly on an individual basis. I hate myself for feeling so lazy, but I'm a senior and I'll be done with this place by June 2nd. I feel so bad for my debate partner though, and I hate myself for letting her down with my selfish laziness by preparing at the last minute.

  • Can someone show me how to solve this math word problem?

One teacher told me to divide the numbers, but that didn't give me an answer. I couldn't find any answers, so I looked the answer up online. The answer was 11AM, but I want to know why that is. Here's the problem question:

The Gotemba walking trail up Mount Fuji is about 9 kilometers (km) long. Walkers need to return from the 18 km walk by 8 pm.

Toshi estimates that that he can walk up the mountain at 1.5 kilometers per hour on average, and down at twice that speed. These speeds take into account meal breaks and rest times.

Using Toshi's estimated speeds, what is the latest time he can begin his walk so that he can return by 8 pm?
