  • If I connect my laptop to a 4K TV via HDMI 2.0 or 2.0a, will the image on the TV be 4K?

New to all this; I recently purchased a top of the line 4K TV. It's the Samsung 55" Class JS8500 8-Series 4K SUHD Smart TV (copied and pasted) if that means anything to you.

So the main question is as the title states: I want to know if I connect my early 2011 Macbook Pro to my TV with a newer HDMI cable, will the image on the TV be 4K? My primary use for this TV will be connecting my laptop for movies...I have a feeling that the picture won't be 4K if the content playing or the computer screen itself is not 4K...

  • Need help connecting an early 2011 Macbook Pro to new TV!?

So I got a new TV recently - it's a 55" Class JS8500 8-Series 4K SUHD Smart TV (copied and pasted lol), if that matters.

I've got an early 2011 MBP as mentioned in the title; the HDMI i'm looking to buy secondhand from a neighbor doesn't seem to work. Everything fits properly: the thunderbolt port adapter to hdmi and all, but nothing happens. The screen won't even go blue on either display.

    Any ideas what's wrong?

  • How do you remove folds in your carpet that were created by moving furniture around?

So the room I live in has a carpet...and there's heavy furniture (bed, dresser, desks). I've basically got these folds/wrinkles in the carpet from moving the furniture around - the carpet sort of gets bunched up a bit here and there, and I'm stuck with a bumpy and uneven carpet.

How would I go about flattening out the carpet short of lifting everything OFF of it? I'm not going to test my lower back by lifting every piece of furniture...

  • Does applying for a car loan with a co-signer that has poor credit affect approval?

As the title states. When I was young, I was dumb, and of course I got burned by credit cards.

The situation as it stands, is that I'm trying to buy a very nice car. My current financial circumstances dictate that I'll be more than capable of handling the monthly payments - but my credit score doesn't say as such. I've recently paid off all my outstanding debt, and I'm in the process of repairing the payment history.

What I am thinking of then, is having my parents (with perfect credit) do the loan - and having me as the secondary. It would pretty much come down to me using their credit to get approval, but I'd be taking over the payments from there. Ideas? Thoughts? Please support with facts, not "wisdom".

  • Oil like swirls on surface of Brita filtered water?

I've had my Brita filter pitcher for over a year now. At first the results were good - now I'm noticing oil-like swirls on the surface of the water whenever I pour it out. I complained to Brita and got a free dispenser out of it - but still the same problem. Tap water doesn't have the swirls on the surface of the water - it's almost like there's some dishwasher in it or something.

What is causing this, and how do I get rid of it? It's not quite scum, but the water is not clear either...and the dispenser and filter are both brand new.

  • How does storing gas in a jerrycan work on long trips?

I m considering a road trip of ~450 miles each way. My car is a 98 BMW 740i that runs on premium with 22mpg on the highway. I m thinking about possibly using jerry cans instead of just fueling up at gas stations along the way, because my start point is going to be near Nevada - and gas tends to be quite a bit more expensive in CA (usually at least a dollar more per gallon).

Anyone have experience/tips with using gas storage containers?

  • Why do girls trash you if you don't ask them out?

I get that they are not happy that you didn't do anything…but I would think that they would move on instead of talking **** about you everyday :/

Trying to understand girl psychology. Don't expect to succeed…but maybe this will help me when it comes to reconnecting with my high school peers.

  • Will Apple fix my MacBook Pro for free?

    Some background details:

    - I got my MacBook pro a couple years back…specifically around August-September of 2011

    - For the past 2~3 months, it has been making a loud whirring noise whenever it's on…I'm pretty sure it's the fan BUT it could be the hard drive

    - Since I got it, I noticed that there was a small "clicking" noise whenever I moved my laptop around while it was on. Other people's MacBooks never made that clicking noise.

    - Some other minor fixes besides the noise that I want, are replacements for the four little coaster things on the bottom (I lost all four over time), and perhaps a little buffing of the silver unibody.

A friend of mine had his Macbook fixed for free recently, but I don't think I'm still in warranty.

  • Girls' opinions on this past situation?

Apparently I'm pretty slow on the uptake when it comes to realizing whether a girl likes me, but in hindsight it becomes more clear. So, I wanted to ask the ladies on this site about a time maybe two years ago. I had met this girl through mutual friends in college, and we got along pretty well. She always answered my texts promptly, and never minded hanging out with me at school for long periods of time even though we had just met. To be honest, I'm still not quite sure whether she liked me or not; here's why I'm going back and forth (this is because my friend insists that she did, and that I'm just being dumb about it):

    - She always responded pretty quickly to me, and if she couldn't make it to something, she would suggest doing something another time or something; in my experience, girls who aren't interested won't really bother responding to you, and won't be very interested in hanging out.

    - She would do things like going on my facebook profile (while still logged in), and liking all her own photos on it.

    - We always got along really well, until we sort of moved on (I guess it's because I never made a move or anything?)

On the other hand, there were things like this too:

    - Talking about another a guy (specific one) she thought was attractive to me

    - Talking about other guys (random ones in public) that she thought were attractive; this didn't happen until we started talking less

Because of those two things, I never thought she was interested in me at all. What do you think?

  • How much does it cost to get a cat, and how much should I expect to pay?

So my ex kind of got me into cats, and now I really want one. How much should I expect to pay (annually, and first year, food + vet checkups and everything afterward cause I know first year is going to be more expensive) per kitty? I was thinking about getting two, so they could play with each other. Oh yeah I'd get one from the shelter if anything...I've always wanted pet(s) but I feel like a dog would be too much work now...I hate waking up in the middle of the night, so midnight potty runs are out of question right now.

  • What happens if you unknowingly purchase stolen property?

Out of curiosity, what would happen if someone was found to have unknowingly purchased stolen property? It came up in White Collar, and I felt that it was a difficult area to be fair on. On one hand, you want to return the stolen property to the rightful owner - but on the other hand, what happens to the money that was spent on the stolen property? Assume that the buyer did his due diligence before buying. What happens then - it wouldn't be right to simply confiscate the property without giving the buyer some consideration right?

  • Has anyone ever had laser floater removal surgery?

I was told about two years or three years ago by my eye doctor that I had a few floaters in my eye. Basically, those spots/small disturbances in your vision - its harmless and doesn't obscure your vision, but I don't like them. I heard about how floaters can be removed with a laser, so if anyone's got experience, I'd greatly appreciate if you could share.

    Most notably, I'm concerned about:

    - Success rate, and possible negative outcomes

    - Price (it'll likely be out of pocket if I were to do it)

    - How old you should be (I'm turning 20 in about a week, I know LASIK is 18 or older, but I've read about how guys don't fully develop until like mid 20s?)

  • Are pending transactions included in your balance?

Just a couple of basic questions regarding my student credit card. It's with Citibank.

Let's say my statement closes on the 15th of each month. That means on the 15th, Citibank will take the balance, calculate the interest owed based on my APR rate, and then slap it on the balance right?

Meaning if I pay some or all of the balance by the 14th, then the interest will be less because the balance will be lower?

Furthermore, if I were to pay off some of the balance but then make some purchases (meaning the purchases will be pending) the day before my statement closes, will the amount of the pending purchases be included in the calculations for interest? Thanks guys.

  • What's your experience with dry cleaning? Any alternatives?

I got hired at TD bank a few months back, and since I'm now working in a professional setting, have found that I seriously need to consider dry cleaning.

My mom doesn't think its necessary, but I can't help but remember how she went and laundered one of my shirts (which was part satin) without asking me, and how it came out having lost the sheen that it had before (the satin). Furthermore, our washing machine has a tendency to poke holes in articles of clothing once in a while, especially if its thin. She's not replacing it anytime soon, so I'm concerned about that too. Most of my dress shirts are from Express, and the labels SAY 100% cotton, but I'm pretty sure it's not entirely cotton. Plus my suit is overdue for a dry cleaning anyhow.

On the flip side, I'm not keen to pay a dollar to dry clean my shirts after each shift. It's not like I'm an upper manager where a dollar or so per shirt is nothing to me. Plus I've read a couple articles online about how dry cleaners tend to be asshoIes (losing your clothes, damaging your clothes, unusually low settlement rate, and if you do settle, don't expect much).

What's your experience and advice? If there's an effective alternative that's cheaper, I'd gladly go for it.

  • Anyone else notice this new play the Lakers are running?

Dwight gets the ball in the post, a wing curls baseline around him to get the handoff, and a nice layup attempt. I've seen it a couple times now the past few weeks - digging the new play!

  • Your opinion of Kenneth Faried?

I honestly don't like him, despite respecting his work ethic and energy. I've never liked undersized strivers for one thing - players who are short for their position but try to make up for it with hustle, and I think he's heavily overrated because he's largely a one-dimensional player, kind of like Blake Griffin.

He can rebound the ball because he's got good timing, athleticism, and instincts, but his post game sucks. His mid-range game sucks. He can't be relied on to create offense outside of offensive rebounding - and while that doesn't matter in George Karl's system, it doesn't bode well for Faried down the stretch.

You're free to disagree with me if you like, but please tell me why.

  • Do you like the way the Lakers are playing now (faster pace)?

Personally I don't. The offense is certainly working - and I'm pleased with that. But, I think they should slow it down just a bit unless the bench proves capable of stepping up on a nightly basis - the starters can't afford to be running up and down for 36 minutes a game. To put it simply, I like how the Lakers are playing on offense - but I don't like how there's so many more possessions for the other team, and how many points the other team is scoring as well. Yeah as long as they're ahead by a decent margin I guess it can't be a bad thing...but you don't want to let the other team shoot well from the field or get to the line a lot either right?

Bottom line, offense wins games, defense wins championships, and to truly be great, you gotta play great on both ends of the floor.
