  • HVAC Question: Replace vs Repair?

We have an old HVAC system (20yrs old). We found our basement partially flooded yesterday from water from the AC. It must have been leaking for about a week by the looks of it. The pump appeared to have stopped working. So, I turn off the AC and remove the pump and put the pipe and the hose into a bucket to prevent any further leaking. After a few moments no more water filtered through the system into the bucket.

We called an emergency HVAC service & he comes out. The guy looks at the blower inside & the pump which I removed. He tells me that you can get water for any number of reasons and waves off my reference to the seemingly faulty pump. He then goes to the outside unit & asks me to turn the air back on. So, I do and it IMMEDIATELY starts blows cold air. I go outside & after a few minutes with the monitor in the unit, he tells me that the unit is shot because we're getting no output and it is freezing over. According to him, we need to replace the unit. $7500 for a Westinghouse 13SEER (FS4BD030KA) looks like the best option.

    So.. since:

1.) The unit blew cold air when we restarted it when he asked me to turn back on briefly.

2.) No more water at all leaked into the bucket overnight while the system was turned off (if it was "freezing up", wouldn't the "frozen" water melt and drain into the bucket?)

To me (the layperson), it seems like he's just out there to sell me a new system. I think that if the pump is replaced that the AC may continue to run properly. It's a $50 possible solution vs a $7500 replacement.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Yahoo Fantasy Football Weekly Roster Question!!?

If I already have the win in my league with 2 guys still going on Monday Night, can I just bench 2 players and collect my win or will I get an invalid roster and lose the game?

I'd like to take out Steve Slaton and Owen Daniels and preserve my 3 pt lead. I'd hate to leave them in and have 2 fumbles (unlikely, I know) and score no points and blow my 3pt lead and crush my playoff chances.

Anyone ever successfully played with "Empty" players in their active roster?

  • Hey Chicagoans! Taking lunch suggestions!?

Headed to the Windy City for the first time! Looking for a great, quintessential Chicago place to get lunch. Oh, and nothing too fancy or high falutin'. Hopefully, someone can suggest a place either near Wrigley or Navy Pier or the Affinia Chicago hotel.

    Thanks & let's go Cubbies!!!!

  • Karma vs. the Patriots?

Obviously, the Giants played the better game, but....

    1. Spygate

    2. Brady's response to Plaxico's "prediction".

    3. Vrabel's attempted leg sweep on Rivers

    4. Copyrighting "19-0" & "19-0 The Perfect Season"

Do Patriots fans think that karma finally came back & bit their team in the butts? Also, are you able look at the other side of the situation and see how amazing it was that the Giants overcame such incredible odds and pulled off a storybook victory?

  • A Bad Decision by the Commissioner?

My friend and I are in a money fantasy football league on CBSSportsLine & here's the scenario.

A team (it just happens to be the team we're playing this week) doesn't set his roster before the Thursday game and is locked out with an invalid roster. Saturday, he realizes this & asks the commissioner to submit his team. Now, in the settings, it clearly stated that the lineup deadline was before the first game of the week.... in this case that was Thursday. Now, Saturday night, the commissioner changes the settings & submits a valid roster for the deliquent team & we're losing to him with a few key guys still to play on Monday.

Do you think this is fair? What do you think should be done?Would love to hear any comments on the commissioner's decision. Any & all comments (pro or con)are welcome.

    Thanks

  • Fantasy Football - Starting 2 RBs!?

Normal TD/yardage league (6pts for TD, 1pt for 10yds rush or rec)

We start 2 RBs. I have:

Tiki Barber vs. JAX (103yds/g rush def)

Brian Westbrook vs. TEN (150yds/g rush def)

Thomas Jones vs. NYJ (143yds/g rush def)

Am I insane to go with Westbrook & Jones & leave Tiki to ride the pine this week?

  • Tipping painters??

Do you tip house painters? If so, how much?

We had 6 guys here for 7 days. They did a great job, but I don't think that you typically tip painters. Any thoughts?

  • How do I figure out the "address" of my printer for home networking?

I'm trying to setup our home printer to be available for my wife's laptop. (I finally figured out the whole wireless connection...) I tried looking under properties by right clicking on the printer, but that didn't help.

  • Do I tip tile installation guys?

2 guys working for 4 hours (doing a nice job). However, I don't think it's common practice to tip these guys, although I may be wrong.
