  • Hunters, What do you do about lead fragmentation?

For those of you that eat what you kill or donate what you kill, do you find yourself choosing more lead-free bullets or do you stick with the standard lead+copper bullets? I'm not a hunter, but I am an avid shooter and I've always wondered how people dealt with the lead fragmentation issue when using a bullet design like a soft-point or any other type of exposed lead projectile.

  • what do you guys think of this poem?

I wrote this poem for my college creative writing class. we had to write a "response poem" to the poem No Hay Olvido by Neruda, so I decided to write about Guernica, the Picasso painting because they're both spanish and are of similar subject matter. let me know what you guys think, I'll take any comments/criticism as long as it's valid

    The Loss of Guernica

Ask me what I saw that day, and I will tell you.

I saw things that no man should see,

The horrors of war, the pain of innocents.

    Their tears ran like rivers,

unable to quench the thirst of the flames.

The sun cut through billowing smoke.

Deafened children clutched to their mothers,

    who sobbed at the loss of their husbands;

widowed in a flash of light.

A dwindling whistle awakened the air,

bloodied foreheads looked to the sky,

the low hum of death grazed the clouds.

Ask me what I saw that day, and I will tell you.

I saw hearts of men turn to stone,

and the ground turn to ash.

  • how do I stop "punching" when I shoot?

when I shoot my M&P 9mm and basically any other semi-auto handgun (aside from those chambered in .22LR) I shoot really low. at 20 feet i have to aim at the neck to hit in the middle on a standard silhouette target. however, it doesn't happen when i shoot my S&W Model 10 revolver. my groups are good, just really low. I had the factory sights replaced with trijicon night sights and my groups came up a little but I know i'm doing something and that it's not the gun or the sights or the ammo (i know 115 grn ammo shoots lower than heavier stuff but not this much). suggestions?

  • Viper 350 Plus vs. Viper Responder 350?

I'm looking to buy a better car alarm, seeing as my factory alarm you need to basically break a window to get the alarm to go off, and i'm not even sure it will go off then. I'm looking at the Viper 350 Plus and the Viper Responder 350.

Viper 350 Plus 3-Channel 1-Way Car Alarm Security System with Keyless Entry-bout $50 not installed

    the feature list says:

3-Channel, 1-way Security System with Keyless Entry, 4-Button remotes and control center

Keyless entry harness included - vehicle specific adapter may be required

Dedicated lock and unlock buttons for easy use

Domelight supervision output can light your vehicle as you approach

    Parking light flash

Viper Responder 350 2-way Car Alarm Security System w/ Keyless Entry, One LCD 2-way Remote and One 4-button 1-way Remote

    features:

    3-channel Security/keyless Entry System

    Clone-Safe Code-Hopping

    Parking Light Flash

    Stinger DoubleGuard Shock Sensor

i guess my main question is does anyone know if the responder system notifies you if your alarm is going off via the led remote?

  • I cant stand up without feeling really dizzy?

every time I try to stand up or do any amount of physical activity I get really dizzy and feel off balance. I'm 21 5'7, 123 pounds and a guy. I don't smoke, drink seldom and when I do only a beer or 2. I've had a donut, a sandwich a mountain dew and some green tea since waking up at 8. My blood pressure is 117/78 with a HR at 84 bpm. It's the end of the school year so yeah I'm a little stressed from that, but I don't think it should be this bad where I feel like I'm.going to faint. Any ideas? I had a really bad headache yesterday too if that helps. Residual effects maybe?

  • what car repairs/service do I actually need?

i had to go get a plug put into one of my tires, and while there they checked the alignment and said it need to be re-aligned (which is true and i knew that) but they also recommended

    -brake fluid exchange

    -strut repairs

    -fuel system service

-lube oil filters (and says "low level, may be leaking")

I'm going to check my oil once the car cools down because i just drove it home, but what does a "fuel system service" entail and is it really necessary? i know the brake fluid exchange might help because my brakes seem to be "weak" but i didn't notice anything with the struts or oil filter.

  • when using a shotgun for home defense, is it better to keep it simple or have extras?

for a while now i've had my mossberg 500 with a Knox pistol grip adjustable stock, standard foregrip, reflex sight, 18.5" barrel and a flaslight/laser combo. recently i stripped it all down, brought it back to how it originally was and found myself wondering "do i need all this crap?" because in the one time i thought someone was breaking in (no one was, the wind blew open the screen door) i remember the time it took to turn on the light and the reflex sight and thought that it took more time that it should have. when im expecting a bad situation i can have everything ready, but nothing good happens when you expect it to. right now the 18.5 barrel has a white dot front sight with no rear sights, just something to point with basically. i do like recoil reduction the stock offers, and it seems to balance it out better. but in a situation where every second counts, is it better to keep it simple or have a light and red dot and all that stuff?

  • can I carry a loaded shotgun in a case in the trunk of my car?

I know that here in MO i can carry a shotgun in my car as long as it's closed in a case and in my trunk, but does it matter if it's loaded and in the case? if it is illegal i'll just keep the ammo in a separate spot or unloaded but in the case with the shotgun.

  • why aren't drug cartels treated like enemy combatants?

for instance the Los Zetas in Mexico. everyone knows they're armed do everything every other militant group does, so why doesn't the Mexican Army go in and start taking out every POS with an AK-47 (since you can't buy guns in mexico, logically anyone who has one got it illegally).

  • Will a scope base for a Savage 110 (short action) fit on a Savage Axis in .223? If not what mount will work?

I don't think manufactures have caught up with the fact that the Axis is in existence and therefore haven't labeled mounts for it, at least that's what it seems. If the 110 Mount won't work does anyone know what will? I'm buying the rifle this weekend along with a base, i already have a scope with mounts that i am going to place on it.

  • what are the possible problems with buying a foreclosed house?

I'm getting close to the age where i need to start thinking about buying a house. I know where i want to live or at least areas that i would be comfortable living in. some of the houses here look nice cost less than 15k in some instances because they're foreclosed. is there any problem with buying a foreclosed house? because to me it seems like i can get a decent house for almost nothing.

i have an 1891 Mauser Argentine that is a little rusty and has some bluing/finish issues. im going to re-stain the stock and re blue the barrel and other parts back to how they should be. im thinking birchwood casey's cleaner/degreaser and then using their blue/black finish to finish it. does that sound like good or am i missing something? this will be my first restoration job, and any tips/suggestions are always welcome. thanks.
