Greeting, I am Yazdgerd IV- the interim, exiled monarch and Supreme Leader of Iran. I will ascend the Peacock Throne as soon as I get done overthrowing the Islamic Theocracy and re-promoting Zoroastrianism. I enjoy reading, history, geography, foreign language and cultures, listening to all kinds of music, cracking jokes, writing, playing bass guitar/piano sometimes, old cars, lowriders, spending time with friends, CB/Ham radio, electronics, fishing, lifting weights, sex, falling in love, long walks, movies, long conversations, having a good laugh, Final Fantasy/RPG video games, going to concerts, architecture, Chicago history, photography and movie-making, etc...

  • What is that weird dialup sound that you hear on Cable TV sometimes?

I remember back in the 1980's, that between commercials or programs you would hear a sound like a fast DTMF dialup on cable TV. It's kind of like a "beeddlebobblebeep" I haven't heard it recently with the exception of Tuff TV or RTV on broadcast cable. I'm assuming it is some relic for signaling from the past, but I am not able to find an example of this on the net and an explanation, other than some conspiracy theory about HARP. What IS this? Perhaps an old program director or network TV expert might know?

  • Allen Gregory Episode 2- When will this crap end?

This show needs to be cut NOW. Everyone who had something to do with this needs to be killed because there is absolutely NO humor. The show isn't over and it feels like a 3 hour orgy of torture, death, failure and coprophagy!

Now they think it is cool to make fun of people who look different while acting like douche bags. Should we legalize the murder of the shows cast and proucers now?

  • How long do you think the trainwreck "Allen Gregory" on Fox will take to get cancelled?

I just got done watching Allen Gregory on Fox, and I don't think I have seen a gayer, unfunny piece of smug entitled California trash since Glee..

Apparently I am not the only one to deride this God-awful slice of televised excrement either. So what do you think? 3 episodes? One? How far will Jonah Hill and his unfunny cronies go to put their anuses in our face and force us to inhale their bad comedic flatulence? Only time and ratings will tell....

  • Does anyone know what goes on in the "Summit 101" club in the Taipei 101 building?

Apparently, there is a super-secret VIP club that is on the 101st floor of the Taipei 101 building in Taiwan, which was for a brief time the tallest building in the world. Does anyone know what the purpose of this club, like if it is reserved for business tycoons or dignitaries, and why is it so hush-hush?

Better yet, has anyone been on the grounds, as in the clubhouse area? I am thinking leading Kuomintang government types hang out here and indulge in bizarre drug-induced fantasies that are illegal in 100 countries or more...

When anything is this secret or this hard to find out info about, naturally I am curious- So what's the deal?

  • Are there any current MP3 Players/personal electronics NOT made in China?

    Hello,

Lately, I have noticed that I hardly encounter any electronics being made in Japan anymore. It seems that Japanese manufacturers must have outsourced everything to China to save money, which can sometimes mean that they have sacrificed quality to make a profit. While I have had a few decent Chinese-made goods, I prefer Japanese goods hands down, primarily because of their solid QA record and the formidable Japanese work ethic...

I was thinking of buying an MP3 player/video player combo as well as a digital camera, but nearly all the ones I have seen at Wal-Mart, etc are made in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, or even Vietnam (which is supposedly trying to become a smaller, cheaper version of China in the manufacturing sector).. If anyone knows of any electronics that are still made in Japan (or even the USA- I know that will bring a laugh to some people but you never know) please let me know. I am partial to the quality I am used to, and although China may have Japanese quality control, they are still too new on the scene to elicit any interest from me. Thanks again!

  • How do I get a tattoo stencil to transfer onto skin with tracing paper and a hectograph pencil?

    Hello,

I was in the process of making a few tattoo stencils the other night that I drew on regular art-grade tracing paper with a Sanford hectograph pencil. I moistened the skin, applied the stencil and when I removed it 30 seconds later, the design was barely visible! Is there any way that I can use the materials I currently have (tracing paper and hectorgraph pencils) to make a good, DARK transfer to the skin? Thanks for any help or pointers you have!

  • Where/How Can I meet and make Muslim friends?

    Hello,

I have always been fascinated in the Middle East and in Islam, but I have no Muslim friends and I don't know any. I often find myself in public and I want to strike up a conversation with a man/woman in Thobe or Hijab but for some reason I lose my nerve and besides I think they probably think I am some whacko anyway...

A couple of my friends said that Muslims are encouraged to not associate with people of other faiths, and that is why they don't talk to others. I think this is a load of crap and I think that many Muslims are being quiet because the post 9/11 mindset of some Americans...

So what can I do? I have a whole bunch of questions, and I haven't even been to a Masjid yet. Any ideas or advice? (Respectful and mature comments only please, thanks!)

  • Can anyone identify what Chicagoland Radio Station this is?

Hello, every once in a while I will take 290 (Eisenhower Expwy) into the city from the western suburbs, and on the lower end of the FM dial (around 88-91 mHz), I sometimes hear REALLY BAD jazz music in the mornings. I am not talking about Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley or even Stan Getz type jazz, but more like jazz meets noise. I would have to classify it as experimental, as it sounds like someone with a serious brain injury playing tenor sax while someone falls down a flight of stairs. Whenever I would hear this, I would burst out laughing, but now I kind of like it. However, I haven't heard it in awhile. The station wasn't very powerful, and I never got a callsign...Does anyone know what station this is/was, and do they still play this experimental-type jazz anymore? This music was so avant-garde it was ridiculuous- washboards, unorthodox playing types, and strange homemade instruments...very neat stuff.. Thanks for your help!

  • How old is my Smith and Wesson Model 10 (Military & Police) .38 Special Revolver?

Hello, I recently purchased a Smith and Wesson Model 10 revolver and I am trying to find out what the estimated manufacture date is. On the topside of the barrel, it says "Smith and Wesson,Springfield Mass" with 3 patent dates in 1906 1908 and 1914 with "38 special ctg" on the side. The serial number is 4869XX (486,9XX). Based on this serial number range, can anyone tell me roughly what year(s) this firearm was made? It is in good condition for it's age, I believe it is also known as the M&P "Fourth Change" model. Thank you for your help!

  • Do you ever think the places in your dreams might actually exist?

Every once in a while, I will have a strange dream that doesn't mean anything. We all have them from time to time. The only reason I remember these dreams is because of the landscape, the location, and certain features of the area. I must have had some of these dreams a very long time ago, yet I cannot forget these places. One of the places is a cold, crystal clear lake surrounded by crazy rock formations in the middle of a forest in mid-autumn. The water tastes great, you can see like 50 feet down, and the water is cold...The road there snakes all over a huge forest, which surrounds a series of small communities and farms...

It is the weirdest thing: I can remember some of these places and buildings like I have lived there all my life....However, I have never seen a place on Earth that resembles it..Has anyone ever had anything like this before? Kinda like a deja vu, but in a dream landscape that comes back into your mind again and again...

  • What size gold chain should I get?

Hello, I recently picked up a gold chain that was 20 inches long. It is a herringbone style in 14kt, 5mm, nice little piece. At any rate, I get the chain home, and it barely fits around my neck! (I rigged it to fit normally with paper clips as an extender in back)

I am 6'2-6'3, and weigh about 280lbs. I have a size 19 neck. I am looking for something to hang in the middle of my chest. Does anyone know what might be a good choice for someone of my size?

Also, on a side note, would anyone know where I can get a 14kt gold extender? ;)

    Thanks for your help!

  • What does the Punjabi phrase "Ajj Di Awaz" mean?

    Hello,

A few years back, my girlfriend at the time and I would spend time with each other on Sunday nights. I would come over and we would watch TV, go for a walk, etc. At any rate, one of the programs we would watch was called "Ajj Di Awaz", a Sikh-produced program entirely in Punjabi. We would watch this show every week, not knowing what the heck they were saying, but the music was great and I really thought the Sikh guys looked neat. I have since learned more about the Gurus and the Granth Sahib, but the nagging question still remains: What does "Ajj Di Awaz" mean in English? Any help is much appreciated! :D

  • What kind of explosive is this?

This 4th of July, a friend of mine came over with a few Gatorade bottles tightly corked up with fuses set into the caps. Upon inspection, the bottles were taut and filled with what I thought might be air. I was told not to squeeze them for safety purposes however...

After lighting the fuse, the explosion was very similar to that of a good M80 or more. We also tried one with a milk jug, and finally a 5-gallon water bottle (WOW)..These explosions were deafening and the bottles were totally destroyed.

For some reason, my friend is being very quiet as too what this compound is. He said something about Calcium Carbide, Toluene, and possibly homemade ammonium nitrate...He calls it "Foo Gas", although real Vietnam-Era Foo Gas was made of different compounds...

Since he was being so vague, I figured I would ask you all...What the hell was this, and what is the chemical breakdown? I am looking to make more for Labor Day :)

  • Does this make any sense to you?

My friend has a few older Honda CT70 motorcycles from the early 1970's. They certainly are not stylish, but are extremely efficient on fuel, averaging just over 80 miles to the gallon!

He told me that these motorcycles were made in China and designed for the rural population there as a cheap means to get around..However, he said that they were not permitted into the USA per the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)! These cycles do not use or burn leaded fuel, can reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, and can carry two people or average weight up a 45 degree incline....Sounds like these cycles could be one small answer to this gas crisis we are having?

The thing I don't understand is why the hell would the EPA decide to not allow these motorcycles into the country? How could their emissions result in anything more than what we are already putting out now? It seems to me that the oil company reps may have strong-armed the EPA on this one, what do you think?

  • CB Radio Operators: What's your DX record?

First off, I am not sure if there are many CB operators on here at all, but I figure it might be interesting to ask:

What is your DX record on 11 metres (CB)? I did 2150 miles last weekend with a simple Imax 2000 antenna running about 50 watts out of a Yaesu FT-757GX...The operator on the other end said I sounded like I was local...so far that has been my farthest at this time, Chicago to San Jose, CA...

  • Does the ancient Thuggee Cult of Kali still exist in India today?

In the late 18th/early 19th century, there were roving bands of men who were called Thuggee, or thugs for short. They would lure travelers off the road, often feigning friendship, and strangle their victims with a thick handkerchief, known as a rumal. It was said that these men were from criminal castes and killed for Kali, the goddess of Death herself...

When William Sleeman came to India from England, he began to suppress Thuggee as he was some kind of administrator in the Colonial government. He had many thugs (and many who weren't) executed or sent to prison camps in the Andaman Islands or other places. He also asserted that thugs were criminal in a hereditary nature, and even had the children and families of these men imprisoned, some for life...Thuggee was thought to be suppressed totally by the 1850's, and by the 1890's it was just a memory. Does Thuggee exist today, or have the English exterminated it entirely?
