Hi guys,
I have a MMA gym close to me, and am considering joining, I noticed that they do participate in local competitions for example grappling gi and no gi / Muay Thai, and semi as well as full contact MMA.
My question is they say that they focus primarily on Muay Thai in combination with traditional Japanese jujitsu and standard roman wrestling and not in BJJ as they are not trained in BJJ, but they compete in grappling matches against BJJ schools. Can the combination make one a competent grappler?

Hi guys, what is the difference between Gracie Barra, Gracie Humaita, Machado and standard BJJ if all lineages can be traced back to Mitsuyo Maeda?

Will this be worthwhile for self defense and overall fitness as a whole?

The school and trainers seems legit, most other schools in my city only offer MMA classes.

4 AnswersMartial Arts7 years agoWould boxing complement Shotokan karate?
The dojo which I train at spends a lot of emphasis on kata’s and kihon’s but not on sparing.
In general we spend about three times a week practicing kata’s and kihon’s opposed to light sparring once a week.
Would taking boxing lessons at a gym supplement karate training?
