  • Are there any car clubs that meet up and help out with repairing cars?

Years and year ago i belonged to a car club (no specific car manufacturer) where we would meet up every two weeks at a community centre that had a work shop ( fourpost car lift and underfloor lift, compressor) .

It was run by a great bloke from where i worked and he had to give it up, and the club folded, and so the workshop did not get used so the council made it into a cafe!

i would love to know is there anywhere in Essex that does this kind of thing? it is some much easier to work on a car without your nose scraping the floor pan as you crawl underneath it and as for some one having the knowledge to help you out if you are stuck on how to do something, i am missing tinkering with cars even if it is not my car to help with others is a learning thing, please help, or if there is a garage owner reading would they contemplate doing this kind of thing , we used to charge a small fee to coverthe public liabilty insurance but thats nothing to working comfortably

  • Renault Laguna, bonnet catches, replacement pulleys.?

Help i have 1996 Renault Laguna, and i have had to pop the bonnet from underneath as the plastic/nylon pulleys have worn, i have replaced them with a better pair but these are on the way out and i have turned them around so the cable end will not slide out (hopefully!) but i need to know where i can get hold of these seperately, Renault main dealers do not sell seperatley and want £35 + vat each for two new catches.

  • Renault Laguna bonnet catches, spares for not main dealer.?

Help i have a 1996 Renault Laguna, and recently i have had to puchase two second hand catches ( there are two).

Those who know will remember that these catches are operated one from the bonnet release under the dash, and the other by means of a plastic/nylon pulley connected to the main one these wear and split causing one or both to be inoperative thus meaning crawling under the car and trying to stab at the lever with a long screwdriver or other implement!

Can someone tell me where i can get hold of these plastic/ nylon connectors seperately, as the main dealers want £35 each catch assembly !

  • n reg Renault Laguna, running hot , can any one help? no match in the petrol tank jokes please so boring! .?

This car will heat up up quite quickly and around town will go above three qtrs on temp gauge but just below the red, on speeds of 40 mph and above temp is at around the qtr mark,.

this is a problem as i use the car and if i get stuck in traffic i dont want to bugger the head up on it, of which there are no visible signs of leakage, there is no contamination in the oil or water, so i am at a loss,

would a compression test shed any clues ?
