Heck if I know!
I'm a stay-at-home mother and I currently own my own small business. I've been married for over 2 years, I have a cute little mutt dog named Chewy. I'm very opinionated, but I'm very open-minded. I'm an Democrat and an Agnostic, and I'm always in those sections. I used to be an Atheist, but the more I thought about it, the more I believed there may be a higher power out there. However, I don't believe in god, I don't believe in organized religion, and I am leaning more towards the ghosts, past lives, Pagan beliefs than anything even remotely close to the Christian hypocrisy. Please don't waste your time preaching to me. I'll listen to you, but get too preachy, and the ADD kicks in. I'll respect your beliefs if you respect mine. Oh, and if you are Republican or against gay marriage and the right to choose, don't even attempt to change my mind or talk to me without being prepared for a debate! ;-)
Now that KY beat LSU, who do you think is going to win next weekend?
First, YAY CATS!!!
Second, serious question here. My husband is betting that Florida has a rough game, and possibly loses. My brother (avid Florida fan) says they will win by 15 points.
So here is the question. Who do you feel is going to win next weekends game?
Kentucky beat LSU...definitely played HARD in the 4th to come back. Granted they won in the THIRD overtime, but they did win.
Unlike Florida who dropped the ball in the 4th and lost to LSU, no overtime.
Florida has the offense, but not a strong defense. UK's defense can hold tight...but can they hold that tight? But if UK's offense can bring their A-game like they did in the 4th quarter (three scores in the last three possessions, then getting two TD's and a field goal in OT), will they be able to outscore FL?
Give me your answers, including your predicted final score. A 12-pack and my bragging rights are on the line. I'm a UK fan in a Florida family.
Best answer = best explanation, not team choice
3 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoWhat is a good age for a toddler bed?
Ok, I am completely clueless about this issue. I saw a question on here earlier about a woman who's child climbed out of his crib at 18 months.
My daughter is 19 months, but she hasn't figured out how to climb out of her crib yet. Honestly, she's already asleep when we lay her down (or darn near there) and we go get her as soon as she wakes up.
So, should I wait until I see her try, or should I be safe about it? She still rolls around a lot before, during, and after she sleeps...so would a toddler bed be a good idea?
Should I wait until she is going to sleep on her own before I do that? Right now, my husband feeds her a sippy cup of milk, and then she falls asleep on his shoulder...we are trying to get out of this, but it works SOOO well. And since she sleeps in her own bed, and not ours...I can't complain too much about that habit.
Argh! What should I do?
15 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoHow is the persecution of Christians in the USA increasing?
This is branching off of my last question, which I got a lot of respectful and GREAT answers from.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aidj9...
Now, I want to elaborate a little more on some of the answers I received.
First, I know that Christians are persecuted severely in other countries. I am not comparing the homosexual persecution to those of the "christian women being raped and murdered in third world countries".
This question is strictly for Christians in the USA.
How is persecution increasing here in the US?
Someone brought up the removal of god from our schools in 1963. Would this really count as persecution?
Look at it this way. Our country has the seperation of church and state, a law. In order for that to be persecution, wouldn't it have to an an UNJUST and CRUEL restraint?
How does that compare to homosexuals not being allowed marriage in the government recognized sense?
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAre Christians really persecuted?
I'm not wanted to start a fight, I'm just really trying to understand how someone can come to this conclusion.
The dictionary states that to persecute means to:
oppress or harass with ill-treatment, especially because of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or beliefs.
Now, I understand that there are a few people in this world that DO harass you because you are Christian. And for that, I will say that in that particular instance, you can say you are being persecuted.
However, I don't understand how someone can get off saying that the ENTIRE country persecutes Christianity.
Um, huh? Would you please explain to me how this country, which even though is based on the separation of church and state is leaning STRONGLY in your general direction, is persecuting you?
I mean, if you call that persecution, then how do you think homosexuals feel when they can't marry in this country? If persecute means to oppress, and oppress means to burden with cruel or unjust
34 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you really know what a cult is?
I've noticed on here that people keep referring to JW's as cults, as well as other religions and ideas different from their own.
Why is it that people refer to cults in a negative connotation? Do you realize that a cult is not necessarily a bad thing? Because someone's ides differ your own, it doesn't make them evil or bad.
The term cult was developed after the term denomination. A cult is characteristically a loose association of persons with private, eclectic religiousity. The concept of cult is useful sociologically because it describes the form of social organization of much popular nonoffical religion. A cult is a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
How is this bad? Sounds a lot like your mainstream religions were when they first started. You do realize that Christianity didn't have 1 billion members when it started...right?
So, why does everyone paint the term cult in such a bad light? What is so bad?
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan you have pain on your LEFT side with gallbladder problems?
I come from a LONG line of family with gallbladder issues. Both of my parents, and all my aunts and uncles on both sides have had theirs removed, most at young ages.
I have been having symptoms that are identical to a gallbladder attack. Everything from what I ate before I had the pains (greasy foods, high fat foods, etc.), to the gas, constipation or diahrea (haven't had a normal bowel movement for over 3 weeks), pains in my back and front abdomen. However, the "sensitivity to the touch" is more on my LEFT side than my right.
I'm 99.5% sure it's my gallbladder, and I'm going to the doctor on Monday, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem so I don't sound like a complete moron when I go in there to talk to the doctor. My parents thought that they had issues on their LEFT side, but it's been almost 30 years for both of them...so they can't remember everything.
Any answers or personal experiences are appreciated!!! Thanks ahead of time.
6 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoDo you want a Revolutionary War?
I received an email from a "Christian" stating that they are against gay marriage, abortion, etc. (all the things I support as a liberal, pro-choice Atheist). This, I'm used to, as it is the feeling of most Christians I meet.
However, they then proceeded to say the following:
"You and I will never agree on this i see. perhaps the only way this will be setteled is in a Revolutionary war, if that happens, i will of course be ready. "
Is that what people want, or is this some extremist's viewpoint?
Do Christians see the only way they will get people to believe the same as they do is to fight a bloody war that could possibly kill thousands of people, some completely innocent?
Isn't that hypocritical that they are against abortion, but are willing to kill people to make them believe the same way they do?
I know that this is one person's point of view, but I would like others.
Do you feel that in the end, a Revolutionary war is necessary, and would you fight in it?
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy are we (Atheists) here in this section?
I've been sent a couple of emails in the past few hours from a particular member on here asking me why I am here. His first email was (for a lack of a better word) preaching to me, and wondering what an Atheist was. His second email was stating that if I really believed that your god doesn't exist, I wouldn't be in this section debating it.
So, here are my questions.
1) Do you honestly not understand what an Atheist is?
2) While we aren't remotely the same person, do you know understand WHY the majority of us don't believe, even though we state it a million times a day?
3) Do you agree that if we truelly "didn't believe" that we wouldn't have to "debate" with anyone?
4) Do people not remember that this is not the "Christianity" board?
5) Do people realize that Atheism is NOT a religion?
6) If you aren't educated enough to answer these questions truthfully and seriously, will you go and learn more about it before bashing it or forcing your beliefs?
Happy Vacation!
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoA question about Muslims/Islam?
Has anyone else noticed that there have been a lot more hateful "questions" towards Muslims/Islam lately on here?
I mean, normally us Atheists and the Christians are tearing at each other, but MAN....I have seen more anti-Muslim bull-honky lately than anything (yes, I said bull-honky...I'm from the south...).
Why do you think that is? Is something going on right now that would cause a new upheavel? Or, is it just a continuous fear of the unknown, and it's just more noticeable because the anti-Atheist/Christian comments have slowed?
Why are we so against each other? I know that people are always getting mad at each other on here for generalizing...so why do people generalize Muslims? Just because there are crazy extremists out there doesn't mean they are ALL like that!
Just curious is all. Any thoughts?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoA question for all Christians?
There is a particular "Christian" on here making commentary for your entire religion (I'll give a hint...Oh-T...).
I'm just curious, does it anger any of you that this person is the reason Atheists and the like "criticize" and "generalize"?
If this person is the leading example of Christianity in this section, do you really blame Atheists for saying what we do about your religion?
I want to know what your stance is on her commentary, and what your personal belief is?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSo I have found the most disgusting insult yet?
So, it's always an ongoing debate between Atheists (including myself) and, well, everyone else (mainly Christians) on who gets "bashed" the most.
I have said it is equal on both parts many times. However, today I read a new question that just got posted not to long ago that literally made me sick to my stomach. I am a very strong, open-minded person that normally doesn't take things personally, but this person took something that is still a sore subject, and used it against Atheists. I teared up I was so angry.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArN1f...
So tell me, everyone...Christians and Atheists, Buddhists and Wiccans, Jews and Mormons....
Is this taking things WAY too far?
Have we finally crossed the line into gross hatred?
Are we using things that have affected thousands, even millions, of people to hurt each other!?!?
Ugh...I'm going to go get sick now.
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoA question about marriage as it pertains to religion?
I just asked a question(http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApTb1... and received:
"I guess what Christians ,and myself included can't understand is.. Marriage is a ceremony that is done in the presence and blessed by God. So how can you do something like that if you dont' believe in the one who is bringing you both together?"
First of all, we don't believe in him, so isn't that an irrelevant thought?
Also, Dictionary.com's definition only includes ONE definition out of TEN that includes the words religious ceremony...and that was stated like this:
1. the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.
Do you consider "marriage" to be only a religious/Christian thing? Does a civil ceremony "not count", even with a marriage license?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAnother question for Christians, as I really want to understand?
I'm an Atheist, as some of you know. I'm also very respectful of Christians who respect me. I mean NO harm or offense by this question, I just really want to understand more about your thought processes so I can gain better knowledge of my own non-belief.
I (Atheists in general) have been asked many questions on this board pertaining to how we practice certain "christian" traditions (i.e. Christmas, marriage, etc.). While I have been respectful of the questions (maybe a few jokes here and there, but nothing hateful) and answered to the best of my ability, I can't help but notice the rudeness that comes from the opposing side (i.e. Christians) of the question.
Granted, it's NOT just Christians, we do it too, I'm just using this for the sake of the question.
So my questions:
What do you think we (Atheists) do on holidays?
What do you think we do instead of get married?
Do you not think we have our own traditions, or is that a "christian" thing only as well?
26 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIsn't it interesting that Atheists are the ones getting called out today?
Yet, on a question just now having the Atheists stand up and say hi, we actually had thumbs down votes simply because we are Atheists. Not for something we said, but just because we are Atheists and believe differently then the religious folk in here.
Is that very Christian-like?
Doesn't the bible tell you not to judge others?
Is there no way we can stop generalizing groups of people because they have different beliefs?
Does this not prove that Y/A R&S is just a place for all beliefs to bully other people because they are different?
Oh..and btw...I'm not generalizing. I'm calling out the specific "christians" that judged us, and simply asking the others what they think of this?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: Is this true about talking to angels and demons?
I just read something a Christian put as an answer to a question on here. I found it kind of odd, as I had never heard it before. I really want to know if this is a common belief.
If you have something talking to you (for instance, a black labrador), you should ask it to say "Jesus is Lord".
If it says it, it's an angel. If it doesn't, it's a demon, because "demons can't say that."
Is this really true??? Not meaning to offend, just very curious!
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoQuestion for Christians (again) regarding homosexuality (again)?
Ok. After reading some answers to various questions, I have a SERIOUS question here. I'm not trying to start a fight, I am just trying to get a straight answer (no pun intended).
Since the Old Testament "laws" are no longer valid, i.e. man with mankind like a woman, why do Christians then use adultery and pre-marital sex as a reason for homosexuality being wrong?
Knowing that our government (well, former government at least) wouldn't allow gay marriage, wouldn't this be unfair?
If our goverment allowed gay marriage (since they shouldn't make laws based on religion anyways, right?), then does that mean homosexuality would then be okay and accepted by Christianity?
If the basis of your argument is pre-marital sex and adultery is a sin, therefore homosexuals are a sin because they can't get married, couldn't it just all be solved by allowing gay marriage?
What would the Christian view point on homosexuality be then?
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoQuestion for Christians and other religions?
I have seen a question on here just recently about where in the bible it states that homosexuality is a sin/against your god's word. I also saw people quoting Leviticus. Now, in previous questions, Christians have stated that the Old Testament (where Leviticus is from) is pretty much null and void, since it has more old world views on things.
Now, why is ok to use Leviticus as a reason to shun homosexuality, but when people quote things out of the Old Testament to prove hypocracy and error, you say it doesn't count?
Also, in your religion, are you brought up to hate homosexuals and condemn them to hell? Isn't that your god's job? Aren't you supposed to love thy neighbor, regardless of race, sexual orientation, or religious belief?
Finally, is it the religious view that AIDS and HIV were brought on by your god to kill homosexuals? Do you still believe that it is passed through homosexual sex? What is the religious view point on the people who have gotten it else where?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do Republicans lump Democrats into one big group of "losers"?
I know this is going to get some things started, because I've seen the posts. I have a very real question though. I've noticed that occasionally, more often than not, Democrats make stupid comments on here about Republicans and religion. Then, the Republicans respond by lumping all of the Democrats into one stereotypical group.
For instance, I've heard someone call us something like, "drug-abusing, teenage impregnating, burger flippers". Why do you insist on calling ALL of us that, when only one person has made that comment?
In fact, my husband and I are both Democrats. My husband is an Engineer, and I am a stay at home mom with my own business (and a "liberal arts" degree...which another Republican mocked). Neither of us have ever flipped burgers, we don't do drugs, and I got pregnant after marriage at 25. So, really, why attack an entire politican party?
Oh, and the last time I checked, our President did drugs...so I would keep that one out of it.
