Please, give me thumbs down when I say something that's astute, logical and reasonable, if it flys in the face of what you'd prefer to hear. I need to be punished for thinking about things and giving thought provoking answers and you should punish me, because you've mistaken your self for God. (I wear your angry little thumbs as a badge of honor.)

  • Average Velocity Problem?

Okay, I'm in over my head here. I'm enrolled in Calculus based Physics and Calculus I concurrently. They haven't covered derivatives in my Calc class yet, but my Physics homework is requiring me to use them... So, here's the problem.

A car travels up a hill at a constant speed of 43 km/h and returns down the hill at a constant speed of 74 km/h. Calculate the average speed (in km/h) for the round trip.

I don't care about the answer. I don't want you to do my homework for me, but if someone could explain to me how to calculate this (No, you don't add them up and divide by 2) I would appreciate it.

  • Waaaahhh! Where's my loan monies?

    Alright, so *disaster*.

I took out a student loan last fall for $5000 and got the first part of that. But I just had my disbursement and apparently my loan for whatever reason was processed as fall only. Yet, I only got $2500 last semester. Now, I really need that loan money but I'll just have to muddle through that.

But what I really need to know is, how do I find out if the bank is still treating it as a $5000 loan? I don't want to end up taking out another for this semester and finding out in three years that I owe $2500 that I never got and just slipped through the cracks of some glitch?

  • Rock Band & Rock Band 2 Controller question?

I've got the Guitar Hero World Tour (Wii Version) Guitars and I'm wondering if this will work for Rock Band, Rock Band 2 or Both? If I don't have a Mic and a Drum Kit, is that going to be a problem? (Besides obviously not being able to use Drums or Mic in the game, of course.)

  • Created in a Flash? (Must be at least 20 Characters Long!)?

I just saw an answer earlier that sort of boggled me...

Someone said that God explained to them (I assume via religious text, and not direct communication), that he created the Universe 'in a flash', but how does that explain anything?

Me: Hey God, how did you create the Universe?

    God: In a Flash!

Me: No, right. I didn't mean how much light was there. I mean, like, how did you go about doing it?

    Just curious?

And, also, does anyone know how God created the Universe, apart from the flash hypothesis?

  • A serious question about religious Philosophy?

I've got a serious question about religious philosophy.

So, can some Christian who hasn't the first clue what I'm even talking about please not really answer it, but tell me how much they love Jesus, in case I forgot and as if I cared?

OH! And if you could say something like 'Have a blessed day' at the end, so I know what a fan-f***ing-tastic person you must be, that would be great!

  • 1942 Mercury Dime Appraisal?

I was at work today and noticed an odd coin in my register. I assumed it was foreign, but upon closer inspection I realized it was a mercury dime and potentially valuable.

I looked around on the internet a bit and found that most of them aren't worth all that much, but some of them are. The trouble is, I couldn't figure out how they're distinguished.

Mine has a D on the reverse side, but some of them are 1942/41 D and I have no idea what the difference is?

  • Replacing a Power Supply?

Okay, so I can do most things in my computer without trouble.

At least, that's what I thought until my Power Supply fried out. I had a PowerMan FSP235-60GI, and I don't know what specs I need for a replacement.

I'm going to have a friend install it for me, so I can know what I'm doing in the future, but before that I need to order a replacement. I am under the impression that this is an easy 10 points for the first person to answer it. =O

    Thanks in advance, folks.

  • Let me show you my Pokemans?

So, I got a DS and Pokemon Diamond and I love it...

But being 27, I don't really know anyone else with the game, making a lot of it's mutli-player functionality totally useless for me. Bummer.

Anyway, are there any decent Pokemon related communities on the internet? Where I could maybe meet other players and at least get some use out of it's Wifi connectivity?

    Or any other suggestions?

I love the game, but it's a little frustrating that there are so many fun features that I can't use.

  • Very Sick Chinchilla >_<?

Well, firstly I just want to say that it's not really my pet. It was my sister's pet, but she wasn't taking care of it and it was a present from her father, so when he died she 'couldn't stand to look at it' anymore. I don't know. I wish I had more time to care for him properly, but I don't and she won't let me give him away either. So, please save the guilt trips. I'm worried about him and am looking for advice, not scolding.

A couple of weeks ago, my mother came home with a different brand of alfalfa and trail mix and a bit after that, I noticed he hadn't been eating and hasn't been drinking enough water. I tried getting him his old food back, but he still wasn't eating. So, not really knowing what else to do I cleaned his cage to see if that would help. Two days later, it hasn't, but now I've noticed other very disturbing symptoms.

He seems extremely disoriented. I just took him out and put him on the floor a few minutes ago and instead of bounding off, like usual, he waved his head back and forth really hard. Like Stevie Wonder or something, it was really messed up. The only hopping around he did was turning around a few times. He didn't do anything else, but when I tried laying him on his side, he got up so I don't think it's his equilibrium...

I'm going to take him to the vet as soon as possible, but in the interim if there's anything anyone knows about this, I'd really appreciate any thing. I'm so worried and confused, I just don't know what to make of it.

  • Cat Spraying?

My cat's about a year old now. He's had some on going bathroom issues, that we're working on. My mom said he sprayed, once, but I didn't believe her. I thought he just peed on something. But no, I was just sitting here and he did it right infront of me. Nasty.

Anyhow, he's not fixed and no, getting him fixed won't help. He's already reached maturity and fixing them after that might only make things worse. So if you're going to say 'get him fixed', you can just take your propaganda elsewhere.

Is there anything I can do that will actually help?

  • Karl C and his obession with Genitalia?

Why would I be offended by you denying your obvous sexual preffrences, Karl?

And I do have beliefs, Karl. I have thought long and hard about them and have a much closer relationship with God than I've known any Christian to. However, I realize that I'm human and as a human, I'm probably wrong, just like everyone else.

The difference is, I don't want to pollute everyone else's mind with my crap just to feel justified in my faith.

Unlike yourself, I don't need people to agree with me.

  • Why are you crybabys so afraid of Agnostics?

Atheists, there's no scientific backing for what you believe. Get over it.

Christians, your God is a monster and an affront to the God of anyone who is rational.

Agnostic - a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.

By this deffintion, I am not agnostic. Though, scientificly, it's the most logical set of beliefs.

However, I am sure I will be put in that category.. so I just want to let you know, on behalf of Agnostics, we're glad you're all so bent out of shape about it. I also think it's hysterical that supposedly anti-homosexual Christians relate everything to testicles and penises. Actually, the God the Bible talks about seems to pretty obsessed with male genitalia too...

  • Stupid Cold Meds?

So, this happens every year. I get a sore throat that drives me crazy (I work on the phone, I'm not a telemarketer or bill-collector!), anyway my co-worker offers me some DayQuil and I say 'No.. I hate cold meds.' and she says 'Oh! It's non-drowsy!'

I take it and now I'm high as a freakin kite. Seriously, I've been a recreation drug user for years, but I really hate this. I just want it to go away and have a sore throat, but last time I took cold meds I could feel it for three days.

Any suggestions on how to shorten the process?

  • Beliefs on Drugs?

Someone just asked a legitamate question about a belief system that was not of the mainstream.

The immediate reaction from some was to insinuate that this person is on drugs.

Can someone please epxlain how this is assumption makes sense?

I do not assume that illogical mystics who have beliefs in popular religions are on drugs, why would I assume an illogical mystic of an less than popular religion is on drugs?

At least what she wanted was something admirable, which is more than I can say for a lot of believers, who just want a God so they can tell themselves God will punish people they don't like.

  • Ten Commandments?

I am often told that the United States and Bill of Rights were founded based on the Ten Commandments.

So, I was looking at it and the only really applicable ones are 'Thou shalt not kill' and 'Thou shalt not steal'.

Adultery is grounds for divorce, but not a crime.

Lieing is only criminal in court and with respect to contracts and advertising, even so pretty limited in nature.

Honoring thy parents has gone in the complete other direction, no penalties for this what so ever, besides social ones.

Nothing about keeping the Sabbath holy. Hell, I'm at work right now.

Freedom of religion is in direct conflict with worshiping other gods/idols.

I take God's name in vain all the time, at police even, no charges have ever been pressed.

How am I to believe the two, nearly universal, ethical codes that do actually apply are somehow a 'founding principle' based on your Bible?

  • What should we call them?

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater

In my experince, there are really very few Christians who really know a thing about Christianity. For the most part, I like those who do, they're intelligent, thought provolking and honest. I may not agree, but generaly they can at least present a reasonable argument.

    What should we call them?

Honestly, Christians.. what happened to the Calvins and the Martin Luthers? Where did the thinking Christians go and why is there so much dogmatic non-sense replacing them?

I don't have a problem with Christianity, I have a problem with how often your responses to me seem like the theological version of blowing rasberries.

  • Capital Punishment and Biblical Inerrency Part II?

I'm still waiting for a valid, literalist response.

I was told to read Leviscious and killing was otherwise justified to me, I even was told, by someone who obviously did not read a thing I had written, that it was not a perfect translation.

    I repeat.

If your Bible is not a perfect translation, then it is flawed and the work of Men.

Is 'Thou Shalt Not Kill' an imperfect translation or is Capital Punishment in direct violation of the Commandments?

Quoting passages that validate killing under certian circumstances is only contradictory and further weakens your argument.

    Solve for X. :)

  • Capital Punishment and Biblical Inerrency?

A common question put to Christians is 'If 'Thou shalt not Kill' why is the Death Penalty justified?'

The response is almost invariably, 'Because it is inaccuratly translated, when translated correctly, it says 'Thou shalt not do Murder', which is legitametly different.

    There's just one problem.

This argument admits that the Bible is a translation and therefore not completely accurate and cannot be taken literaly, word-for-word.

So, statisticly speaking, if you're an Evangelical Christian who believes the Bible is the literal word of God.. how can you support the Death Penalty?

Which is wrong, The Bible or the Death Penalty?

  • Direct Democracy?

The Greek Democracy is often regarded as the fairest version of the system ever created.

All (male) citizens above the age of 20, were open to attend assembly. At assemply they would debate and vote on issues in much the way our congress does today.

From this pool the Council was selected *by lottery* of those citizens over the age of 30. Their job was preparing legislation and regulating the assembly. The lottery was held yearly and any citizen could hold council position only twice in their lives.

The Courts were executed from the same pool of those eligable for Council. The Jurors selected by drawing lots and they acted as the Judge as well.

The main constraint of this type of Democracy came with the size of nations. Such a system of rule would have been infeasable for Rome. But in the last 20 years, the world has become much smaller.

What do you think of the possibilitys? How would an American direct Democracy manifest itself?
