Can you match boxing announcer Michael Buffer's famous phrase "Let's get ready to rumble!"?
Here's some to show the idea. Dance instructor, "Let's get ready to stumble!" Basketball coach, "Let's get ready to fumble!" Union leader going into negotiations, "Let's get ready to grumble!" Lawyers going into court unprepared, "Let's get ready to bumble!" Stockbroker, "Let's get ready to tumble!" Pastry chef, "Let's get ready to crumble!" Pastor starting prayer, "Let's get ready to mumble!" Without re-using "rumble" or any of mine here, can anyone come up with any more?
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoHow does my cat know when I am about to feed him?
He is often upstairs, where all his things are, so he can't see what I'm doing. He becomes excited and runs around when I start getting his dinner ready. I know he might hear something, but is the sound different if I open a can of soup or a can of cat food? Or is the sound of cat kibbles different from cereal? I don't suppose he can smell anything that quickly. I don't feed him at the exact same time every day, and sometimes I get my food first, and sometimes his. Yet, he always reacts exactly when I start handling his food. How does he know this?
6 AnswersCats1 decade agoWhat is the historic origin of referring to the police transport van as a "paddy wagon"?
I just thought I'd ask this on St. Patrick's Day.
4 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoIf the US missile misses the satellite tonight, will it hit the moon?
Someone told me there's a danger that it could do that. PLEASE tell me it isn't so. I'm out at night quite a lot, and I like seeing the moon up there.
5 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoCan anyone help me with Metacafé?
When I watch the vids for the first time, most of them flip upside down after the first few seconds. Is there any way to prevent this?
1 AnswerOther - Internet1 decade agoHow do you describe your role in your cat's life?
Obviously, "owner" won't do. We clean their toilets, brush their coats and care for their every need. Who is the one getting pwned here? I've considered "personal valet" or "companion biped." Has anyone else found a good description for this one-sided (but delightful) relationship?
10 AnswersCats1 decade agoCub fans: Do you agree or disagree with the decision to let Mark Prior go free agent?
Why keep Wood and not Prior? What do you think the front office has in mind as the overall pitching strategy for 2008? And, will it work?
16 AnswersBaseball1 decade agoChavez Jr. v. Camacho Jr.: Will it ever happen, and if so, when?
If it does, the reason is obvious and has nothing to do with their abilities or lack thereof. Will that be good or bad for boxing?
2 AnswersBoxing1 decade agoWho is/was the all-time best referee? Why do you think so?
Select from those who have regularly refereed world championship bouts. Please give reasons, not just a name.
5 AnswersBoxing1 decade agoWARNING: MATURE CONTENT Didn't the phrase "jill off" have an innocent meaning once?
I've seen it used in the modern sense in which it is quite vulgar, but I remember it once having a meaning similar to "disappear without a trace," and gender didn't seem to matter. Something like: "We've been looking for them for months, but they've done a jill off on us." Am I alone in this, or does anyone else remember this use? (And I'm quite sure it wasn't "chill," as such phrases as "chill out" are modern, and that would not make any sense.)
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoWhy does Yahoo Answers Boxing go quiet when it's evening in the USA?
Check it out. Both the posting of questions and answers here is much reduced during the evening hours in the USA. Then look in other categories, and that's the most active posting time. Could it be that Americans have nothing to say about Hatton/Mayweather, so they've slunked off?
7 AnswersBoxing1 decade agoWhere can I get Hoover Type K vaccuum bags near Chicago?
I'm looking for a retail store. I've been looking in K-Mart, Wal-Mart and Target for over six months now, and they just aren't available. I know I can order them on line, but then I have to pay shipping individually. (Type K are for a cannister vaccuum.)
3 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoHow can I give my cat a quadrupedicure?
My 4-1/2 year old neutered ginger tom hasn't been de-clawed and never will be. I need to keep his claws trimmed, but he resists me, even turning his head and biting me when I try. We are a one-human, one-feline household, so there is no second person to hold him. (There used to be, but no more.) Distracting him with TV, etc., doesn't work because he's just about an ADD cat. How can I hold him still and clip his claws at the same time? I'd appreciate techniques that really work from those who have faced and overcome the same problem.
5 AnswersCats1 decade agoIs it OK to tell my cat a "white lie"?
When I brush and comb him, I tell my orange tabby that I sell his fur to be used as glove liner and use the proceeds to buy cat food. I want him to have a sense of being a productive member of the family and of society. So each day, I show and tell him how many fingers can be lined with today's output. He rolls those big eyes at me and gives me a kiss. What I'm concerned about is, if he ever notices that it goes into the refuse bag (when he isn't looking), will he stop trusting the other things I tell him?
22 AnswersCats1 decade agoCub fans please answer: How would you choose pitchers in the 4-game series this weekend with the Cards?
Most specifically, in which game(s) would you start Zambrano, and then who would you start in the others, if you were calling the shots?
3 AnswersBaseball1 decade agoWould you fight shirtless in a bare-fist street fight?
Assuming you had time to choose, i.e., it's a planned, agreed fight and you are not simply jumped, would you get ready by stripping to the waist, keep your shirt on, or wait to see what your opponent chose to do? And, most importantly, why? (Give your reasons if you are looking for the 10 points!)
8 AnswersBoxing1 decade agoWhat if the two Coreys got into a fight, who would win, Corey Heim or Corey Feldman, and why?
Saw their picture today, due to these child stars coming back together now as late adolescents to do a show, and I couldn't help thinking of this. Try to picture them shirtless, in a brutal MMA fight against each other with only 4-ounce gloves. Well, who would beat the other, and what makes you choose him?
6 AnswersBoxing1 decade agoIs my cat counting days?
I know this sounds strange, but recently I had to work on a Saturday, which I rarely do. He looked at me as if I was really doing something strange. Then there was the Fourth of July, in the middle of the week, and when I slept in a little, he began bouncing around, trying to get my attention. He doesn't do that if I sleep late on a Saturday. So, as strange as it seems, it appears he is counting off the five days of the week and the two days of the weekend. Is this possible? Anyone have a cat do the same?
7 AnswersCats1 decade agoMy neutered male 4yo orange tabby DSH is a "fraidy-cat" in night storms. How to help him?
He's always been this way, and doesn't seem to be afraid of anything else. He needs a lot of comforting (which I don't mind providing, even if he awakens me), and even after that, clings to my leg. If I move at all while he's on my leg (difficult to avoid if I fall asleep), he first gets angry and then hides under the bed for the rest of the night (even if the storm ceases). He's just about the purr-fect companion except for that, so I sure hope he can get over it, but he's four now and doesn't seem to be improving in this area.
